All members should telephone Mrs. lies before ten, and tell her the number of reser vations required for themselves and guests. Elizabeth Heinline, chairman cf the dinner party, has planned a complete program. There will be a contest for the best Valen tine poem. Children from Mil dred Jenkins' dance studio will entertain. A special "Heart's De sire" program will be given by Mildred Jenkins and Helen Ca sey. Vera McCllnlock Jones will sing. Jo Anne Rutter will give a solo dunce, Virginia Young will play the piano, and Jessie Wag goner will be "Miss Valentine." The dinner will be planned around the Valentine theme. The committee is headed by Senator Lew Wallace, Portland, candidate lor the Democratic nomination for governor, who stopix'd In Roseburg with Repre sentative Carl C. Hill of Days Creek, also a member of the com mittee, other memoers, wno spent some part of the day In the city, were Representative Wm. Niskancn, Bend; Attorney John B. Fbinger, Klamath Falls repre senting the Izaak Walton League, and James L. Loder, Salem, rep resenting the Oregon Wildlife Federation. Following a recent tour of East ern Oregon, the committee is now winding up an extended scries of public hearings. Meetings were held Monday In Portland, Tuesday In Corvallis and Albany, Wednes day in Eugene. Thursday In Med ford, and sessions will be held at Coos Bay tonight and at Wald port Saturday. Ira N. Gahrielson, secretary of the V. S. Fish and Wildlife serv ice, has been appointed technical advisor for the committee, and will spend several months In Ore- ?on making a scientific study and urnlshing recommendations to the committee in preparation for compilation of the final report. The committee will then prepare a report covering the full fie.d of fish and game management to be submitted to the governor and legislature. Ford Foremen Put Under Revised Pay DETROIT, Feb. 6. W A new plan covering responsibility and compensation of foremen in Its employ was announced today by the Ford Motor Co. Henry Ford II, president, said foremen, as individuals engaged exclusively in management func tions, will be paid salaries deter mined by the skill of the opera tions they supervise. Ford said foremen will be classi fied Into six occupational groups. Periodic community salary sur veys will be made, he added, to Insure that foremen are paid salaries equal to, or better than the going rate In the area of thicr employment AFLStiilSeeks Political Guide MIAMI. Fla.. Feb. 6. 1.11 The American Federation of Labor still was without a director today to guide its political activities in the forthcoming elections. The AFL's administrative com mittee ended its meeting hero last night and indicated It would meet again in Washington March 9 to discuss candidates for the $20,000 a year Job. Though without a director, the committee authorized AFL Presi dent William Green and Secretary-Treasurer George Meany to proceed with establishment of a nation-wide political organization. Chief purpose of the organization wouia oe repeal oi tne lait-nan-ley Labor Act and defeat of the act's congressional supporters. Former Senator a Burton K. Wheeler, longtime friend of the AFL while In Congress, turned down the job because he said he could not give it full time. Sportsmen Lose Round in Effort To Open River THE DALLES. Feb. 5. Un file long-standing attempt of sportsmen here to o"en the mid dle Deschutes river south of Maupin to public fishing had suf fered another setback today. The Wasco County Court re fused a petition by snorts groups to convert an old railroad grade between Buck Creek and North Junction into a county road. The grade is now closed off at one point by private fishing clubs which own the property. The Countv Court held that It should not obligate the county to pay the amount necessary to ob tain rights-of-way and establish a county road there. The Portland Deschutes 'Club, which has a private fishing round on the river, and live stock men of this area opposed the proposed road. Livestock men declared it would force them to fence their property, at exces sive cost. are inconclusive in tests on adults, he said. Dr. Wherry, president of the State Board of Health, which will sponsor the teaching tour, said Oregon would be the first state to adopt this program. P Home Minister Patel told Parlia ment today Mohandas K. Gandhi rejected his entreaties to have persons attending his prayer meetings searched. "My life is in the hands of God and if I have to die. no pre cautions can save me," Patel quoted Gandhi as saying upon vetoing his appeal. "I will not agree to anyone being restricted from coming to the prayer meet ing or for anyone to come be tween me and my audience." Gandhi was shot to death a week ago while walking to a prayer meeting. "Every caution had been taken to save Mathatma Gandhi except a search of those coming to pray ers," Patel said. 'The assassin de ceitfully and successfully exploit ed the weak spot." New Chemical To Fight Tooth Decay PORTLAND, Feb. B.f.fi The Oregon IVntal Association today announced a plan designed to get the new sodium fluoride treat ment for preventing tooth decay to nearly all Oregon children. The association said it would send a team of Instructors to every community center in the state to teach dentists how to use the chemical to fight tooth decay. Dr. O. T.
