Kin of Roseburg
Men Dies in Fire
Rhinehart Schemer, one of the
two men who died in a house fire
on the Garden Home road near
Portland Wednesday morning,
was a brother of Fred Schemer,
Sr., Janitor at Roseburg Senior
High School, and an uncle of
Fred Schemer, Jr., and Bill Scher
ner, operators of a local bottlin
plant. He was 50 years of age
and a logger by occupation.
The other victim of the fire
was William Rice. t8, owner of
the house, a long time friend of
Schemer, w ho was his over night
visitor. Cause of the fire was
listed as- "unknown," although
neighbors said Rice customarily
put kindling in the oven of his
cook stove to dry out.

closed that the "Sluzba Polsce"
statute creating a government
directed national youth organiza
tion provided compulsory mili
tary training not only for youths
in the 16-21 age brackets but also
for men of more advanced years.
