I Varsity W arriors provide enter
tainment for Grants Pass' two
junior elevens in a doubleheader
Saturday afternoon.
I Little is actually known of Cot
tage Grove's prowess, other than
they are currently sitting In sec
ond spot In TrICounty league
play, with three wins and a lone
defeat, and are rated a veteran
club.
Grants Pass' Junior-Varsity is
reported to be a scrappy team,
nut lucks game experience, while
the Junior High team has already
nickeil Medford's Juniors, 6-0, and
are said to be a hefty bunch.
At the Indian camp last night,
Coach "Cece" Sherwood told his
squad he was greatly satisfied
with their showing at Marshfield
Kriday, even though they came
out on the short end of the 12 0
score. Line play Wfs exception
ally good, he said, and added that
he had no regrets for the loss, as
the Indians showed up fundamen
tally better and completely out
charged the Pirates, who out
manned Roseburg in age, weight
and experience.
Special praise was given by
-Sherwood to Lloyd Mayborne,
rugped tackle, who was tagged
by pressbox men as Marshfleld's
fifth backfield man with his fre-
I quent tackles from the rear; Dick
Bonebrake, Ileetlooled luiIhacK,
and Bob Sanders, quarterback.
Sherwood stated that in his be
lief, the difference in the victory
was Marshfleld's flashy back,
Rungy, who turned in the vic
tor's scores.
Annexation Election
Procedure Started
(Continued Fr in I age 1
tlon," so that if the proposal fail
ed to pass, there would be time
to submit a proposal for an area
with less extnesive boundaries.
The boundaries proposed by the
commission follow natural lines
of drainage, Irving wild. Council
man Percy Croft brought up the
problem of sev age disposal In
areas w here pu nping might be
necessary to car.-" sewage to the
present or to future disposal
plants. He suggested smaller
boundaries for annexation. Irving
slated that such sewage problems
would be a matter for engineer
ir.p. The city attorney asked Todd
to arrange for polling places and
election Judges and clerks In the
outlying areas before the next
council mivtlng.
Building Code Discussed
Cltv Manager M. W. Slankard
recommended to the council the
adoption ot the Uniform Building
Code and placement oi DUiming,
Dlumbing and electrical Inspec
tion services under one individ
ual, whose salary would be paid
b" Inspection fees.
The council discussed the pro
posed code In relation to prob
lems brought about bv the re
modeling of the Miller Mercan
tile Co. Under the present city
building code, the store is re-
oulred to build a fireproof ex
terior wall above Its street level
show windows. Representatives
of the company have contended
that a woou-and-stucco nont
would be permissible under the
Uniform Building Code. The mat
ter Is still pending.
No Sewer Bids
No bids were "submitted for the
sewer project :: the northeast
corner of the cltv. in E. 7th St.,
Ave. "A" and "B." and E. 3rd Ave
N. Specifications will be modified
to permit the use of either vitri
fied clay or concrete sewer pipes
and the project readvertised.
The city manager was directed
by the council to use his own dis
cretion In granting permission to
the Roseburg High School senior
class to post signs advertising the
senior Dlay to be staged In the
Koseourg Armory.
Purchase of a money counting
machine to be paid for out of
parking meter revenues was au
thorized by the county. Slankard
said that the city is presently
paving the U. S. National Bank
$15 a month to count the money
collected trom parking meters.
The counting machine will cost
$1H0 and will be paid for on the
same basis as the parking meters.
House of Lords About
To Lose Ancient Power
(Continued From Page One)
three successive sessions, a proc
ess which takes two years. In
formed sources said the new bill
might limit this delay to six
months.
Since their rise to power, the
Laborite ministers repeatedly
warned the peers they would
brook no Interference from the
non-elected upper chamber.
Dates From 1066
The feudal aristocracy frgm
which the House of Lords sprang
was created bv William the Con
queror immediately after his con
quest of Britain In HUM. He par
celed out land and attached the
strict condition that the holders
of title and land owed him mili
tary service. William and his suc
cessors took counsel with the
bishops, abbots, barons, earls and
knights rather than with a na
tional common council which had
advised the Anglo-Saxon rulers.
The membership of the House
of Lords at the beginning of this
year Included three peers of
royat blood, two archbishops, 20
dukes, 27 marquesses, 130 earls,
!W viscounts, 21 bishops and 513
barons.
The House of Lords In modern
times seldom has met for more
than three hours In anv one dav.
Usually only about 100 peers at
tend the sessions, and of these

Well informed diplomatic
sources here said the Yugoslav

Russian affairs in Brazil.
Attack Resented
The note addressed to the Rus
sian government announcing the
' break In relations said that Brazil
! had acted because of an "ex
; treme outrageous and calumni
' ous article" against' President
Dutra and the Brazilian armed
forces which appeared in the
Moscow Literary Gazette.
The communication declared it
was universally known that the
Soviet press was controlled by
the Russian government and that
the government must be held
responsible for what appeared in
the press.
The Russian government, the
note added, had refused to accept
a Brazilian protest against the

In Moscow yesterday, Pravda,
anticipating the break, said that
talk of the severance of relations
showed "reactionaries" had "lost
all balance."
Some diplomats were inclined
to interpret Brazil's action as a
turning point in Latin American
relations with Russia and Com

Any way you look at it, Chevron Supreme
deserves a lot of credit!"
Says a "Man at Work" "Anytime a
car whizzes up a hill like that, 111
always bet a hat she's got Chevron
Supreme in the tank." (That's
because we're 1 iberal with high-octane
blending agents that halt pings.)
Says the Steelworker "Now there's
. the kind of getaway you get with
Chevron Supreme Gasoline it's
always away first at stop signs."
(Sure, for Chevron Supreme contains
plenty of quick-vaporizing fractions
that give fast pick-up.)
2 i t
Says the Parking Lot Man "On the
level, I've never seen it fail! Rain or
shine, Chevron Supreme Gasoline
starts 'em in a flash." (Exactly why
it's "climate-tailored" for each dif
ferent temperature zone.)
And the most important viewpoint of
all . . . "Yep," says the mechanic,
"Chevron Supreme 's blended from a
number of gasolines to give you the
ri(tht power for every job . . . and it's
a premium gas specially refined to
burn clean, make engines peppy."
