Pauls Lutheran Church en Joyed a very charming Christmas party Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. Rietmann. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree was placed in the living room, while holly and mistletoe were arranged about the rooms. During the first part of the afternoon tne group sang Christ mas carols and the children sang, "Away in a Manger," followed by the reading of the Christmas story. . During the social hour Christ' mas gifts were exchanged and a surprise grocery shower was pre sented to Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Sylwester. Unable to be present Because or illness was Mrs. A. The next meeting of the class will be held January 2, the place of which will be announced later. T. N. T. CHRISTMAS AIMQIIFT AM H DADTV IC CHARMING AFFAIR TUESDAY The T. N. T. Club members en joyed their annual Christmas banquet at seven-thirty o'clock i uesday evening at Carls Haven, followed by a charming party at the home of Mrs. Paul Morgan. A white cloth covered the table, which was centered with holly and red tapers. The Morgan home was beantifuily decorated in the holiday motif. An especially lovely snow scene arrangement graced the buffet. Gifts were exchanged and a social hour followed with Mrs. Sidney Moon, Jr., winning the high prize in gin rummy and Mrs. Robert Keefe winning the high prize in pinochle. Those enjoying the party In cluded Mrs. Sidney Moon, Jr., Mrs. Fred L. Perry. Mrs. Ira Kyrd, Miss Agnes Pltchford, Mrs. Sherman Morris,, Mrs. Howard Marsh, Mrs. Earl Kennerly, Mrs. Robert Keefe. STRONG PRESENTS GROUP OF YOUNG STUDENTS IN RECITAL An Informal piano recital was given last Monday evening by young pupils. of Miss Gladys Strong. This is the first of a series of winter recitals and was presented entirely by juniors who played interestingly and pleas ingly. Following the program, a social hour was enjoyed by the pupils and their parents and friends. E. CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL HOLIDAY PARTY ON WEDNESDAY The Roseburg Art and Em broidery Club was most gracious ly entertained at a cnarming Christmas party and one-thirty o'clock turkey dinner at the I. O. O. F. hall Wednesday with Mrs. Argie Beals, assisted by Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Cluck and Mrs. Poirot. , Santa Claus and reindeer graced the mirror on the table, which was circled with sprays of holly. Mrs. Frank Bergh, president, conducted the business meeting. Gifts were brought by the mem bers to he sent to the County Home. The club presented lovely gifts to the retiring president, Mrs. Bergh, and Mrs. H. F. Snv der, secretary. Mrs. Elsie Sin clair was welcomed Into the club as a new member. The resigna tion of Mrs. Effie Ijiursen was accepted, as she has moved to Roseville, Calif. . Christmas greetings from for mer club members were received and read and the club voted to send greetings to all former members. Mrs. Alvin Smith, a former member and now a resi dent of Ashland, was reported to be convalescing from a recent major operation. The new officers will assume their duties at the next meeting. Meeting dates for the coming year were set and hostesses were selected. Arrangements were also made for members to celebrate their birthdays during the club year. The first meeting in Janu ary will be omitted. Following the meeting, a very beautiful Christmas tree was en joyed and gifts were exrhanred A vote of thanks was given by the group to Mrs. Beals. Mr. uaugnerty is state inspector for the Douglas Forest Protective Association. Kidders Return Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Kidder have returned to Roseburg, following a trip to San rranciseo to be with their son, Stanley, until he sailed for Japan. En route south the Kidders were in an automobile accident and Mrs. Kidder suffered three frac tured ribs. They remained fh San Francisco for three weeks, until she was able to return to Rose burg. Stanley Kidder, who was recentlv named as a consul to Japan, stoDoed over In Honolulu to have Thanksgiving with his cousin. Mrs. Florence Wharton Wicklund. He stopped In Guam, the Philinpines and points In China and will not arrive at his post In Tokyo until January 6. Arrives For Holidays Jimmy Svlwester, student of Trinity Lu theran school In Portland, arrived In Roseburg Friday to remain over the holidays with his par ents, Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Syl wester, 1170 Military street. His brother, Paul Sylwester, who Is a Lairds Return Home Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Laird have returned to their home on Winchester street, following a week's vaca tion spent at Brewster, Ore., visit ing the former's mother, Mrs. J. D. Laird and other relatives and friends. The Lairds' son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Lowden, and children, Bar bara and Linda, of Lakeview, Ore., are arriving in Roseburg Monday to remain over Christ mas at the Laird home. Another daughter, Miss Maxine Laird, of Portland will spend Christmas day at the Ijilrd home. Their son. Burton Laird, has recently been discharged from service with the U. S. Army and Is now employed at Cutter's laboratory In Berke ley, Calif., where he will do bac teriological work.
