S. will sponsor a fall bazaar in the basement of the Methodist Church parlors Thursday with a merchants lunch to be served from 11 to 2 o'clock. A choice of creamed chicken and noodles or hot home-made tamales. All types of articles will be on sale at the various bazaar booths. The public is invited to attend. Country Club Ladies to Meet The Roseburg Country Club ladies w ill meet Thursday at 9:30 A. M. at the clubhouse- for con tract bridge. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 o'clock and the bridge play will be resumed in the afternoon. If the weather permi.s, golfing will begin at 1:30 o'clock. Returns to Washington Hay den Garber, secretary to Con gressman Harris Ellsworth, left Saturday for his home in Wash ington, D. C, following several weeks attending to business in Oregon. While in Roseburg he was the guest of Congressman and Mrs. Ellsworth at their home in Laurelwood. Gray Ladies Ask For Enrollments Applications will be received by the Red Cross for membership in a Cray Ladies corps to serve in the Roseburg Veterans Hospital, It was announced today by Mrs. Arthur Clarke, executive secre tary of the Douglas County Chap ter. On duty, the Cray Ladies will wear the uniform which gives the corps Its name. Typical services rendered by the Gray Ladies are acting as hostesses In the recreation room, visiting patients in their wards, assisting with library work, dis tributing Red Cross supplies, writ ing letters for patients' signa tures, shopping for patients, as sisting with entertainments, play ing or teaching games. Business women lacking suffi cient time to devote during the day will be able to fulfill the re quired hours during evenings, Sundays, and holidays. Any women wishing to enroll in this service may do so by call ing at the Douglas County Red Cross chapter offices in the Rose burg Armory, or by telephoning No. 832. Mrs. Clarke said. The Gray Ladies corps was first established in 11)18 at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D. C. in answer to the need for outside contacts for hospitalized service men. Under the best of circum stances, it was recently stated by Dr. Daniel Blain, assistant medi cal director for neuropsychlanic service. Department of Medicine, Veterans Administration, the hos pital's medical staff reminds a man that he is ill. Volunteers of the Gray Ladies, representing a cross section of the population, have a dennite counteracting value. Women accepted into the corps will be given a special course of lectures by the Hospital stall so that they may better understand the problems of the hospitalized veteran.
