Newspaper Page TextFOUR ROSEBURG NEWS-REVIEW, ROSEBURG, OREGON, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 3, 1946. 1 "i Douglas Funeral Home Announces Change in Name Announcement was made today that the name of the Douglas Funeral Home has been changed to that of Long and Orr Mortuary, Management, personnel and busi ness policies, however, will con tinue as formerly, said Vern M. Orr, business manager. The Douglas Funeral Home was etablished as a corporation in 1926, by a group of Douglas County citizens, who decided upon the corner of Lane and Pine Streets as their business location. They erected a funeral parlor on the site and have carried on com plete funeral and ambulance ser vice since. Early In 1955, all outstanding stock of the corporation was pur chased by Frank W. Long; his wife, Jewell Adams Long, and by Vern M. Orr. Mr. Long Is the son of the late J. T. Long, Roseburg attorney, and the brother of J. V. Long, former district attorney, now Jun ior member of the law firm of Mice, Orcult, and Long. He has been associated with the Doug las Funeral Home since 19,'U as secretary-treasurer and manager. Both Mr. and Mrs. Long are licensed funeral directors and, in addition, Mr. Long is a licensed embalmer. Vern Orr, former cashier of the Roseburg National Bank, and assistant manager of the Rose burg branch of the United States National Bank of Portland until November, 1943, served as a mem ber of the board of directors of the Dougals Funeral Home for several years, and has been presi dent for the last four years. Since early in 1945, he has devoted his full time to the business as office manager. A. F. (Tony) Shukle, licensed embalmer, accepted a position with the firm early this year fol lowing his discharge from the U. S. Navy. Mr. Shukle served with the Navy for 31 years of which 21 months were spent in the South Pacific Beforu his Navy enlistment, lie was connected wlih the funeral business for many years. The management, Orr said, re cently decided to close the cor poration as well as to change its name to Long and Orr Mortuary. The business will be conducted under the new name, In the fu ture as a co-partnership. Most information on the denths of oceans comes from soundings made from ships.
