newcomers who (for which we have deep regret), are not

But every answer received will be of great aid to the
committee in correctly estimating the number of homes, the
percentage of veterans involved, average size of residences
contemplated, amount of materials required, etc.
We are still of open mind regarding the effectiveness of
this committee. It has been our observation that federal
agencies glory in setting up local committees and then
blithely ignoring every recommendation and suggestion, con
verting the committee as rapidly as possible into a propa
ganda agency, while conducting its administration of con
trols in its own merry way.
We have had assurance that this time it is to be different.
The men engaged in setting up the local committee are most

ported yesterday that this year's
turkey crop is expected to be nine
per cent smallbr than last year's
record crop.
The department said that a
preliminary survey indicates 41,
013,000 head will be raised, com
pared with 44,991,000 last year.
However, this year's prospective
crop is 27 per cent larger than

The decline from last year was
said to reflect an uncertainty of

time, higher feed costs, and an
