CHASE ENTERTAIN AT DINNER SUTHERLIN Mr. and Mrs. John Chase entertained at a seven-thirty o'clock dinner Friday evening at their home on East Fourth Avenue. The table was very pretty with its centerpiece ot gladioli. Covers were placed for: Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Collier and daugh ter, Miggie and the host and hos tess, Mr. and Mrs. Chase. NEW IDEA CLUB HOLDS MEETINGS SUTHERLIN Three meet ings have been held recently by the New Idea Club. First was held at the home of Mrs. William Uartzke. After a delicious lunch eon, served by the hostess, the members worked on the appli qued quilt blocks. Three new names have been added to the club, Mrs. Meryl Wahl, Miss Dolores Martin and Miss Lola Smith. The second meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Jack Denley and a potluck supper was served at 7 o'clock. A kitchen shower was given for Mrs. Noah Rose, Jr., and Mi's. Frank Martin. The third meeting was held on Wednesday evening with a pot luck supper and was served to the club members and their fam ilies. Miss Dolores Martin was honored on her birthday anniver sary and received many lovely birthday gifts. MARY-MARTHA CLUB HAS MEETING FRIDAY SUTHERLIN The Mary. Martha Club of the Christian Church held a potluck dinner and business meeting at the church parlors Friday. The table was very pretty with its centerpiece of lovely pastel summer flowers. The business meeting was pre sided over by the president, Mrs. Royal Abeene and Mrs. Arthur Longbrake had charge of the de votionals. l'lnns were discussed for future work and it was de cided to put on a supper for the young people on September 13. After the meeting closed all worked on quilt blocks. Mrs. Young, from Oklahoma, sister of Mrs. C. E. Lewis was a guest and told many interesting Ideas about the work of the Ladles Aid in her home town. Those attending are asked to bring their own table service. Lumber Production in June Tops May Figure WASHINGTON, Aug. 27. P) Lumber production reached an estimated 3,154,207,000 board feet during June 2.G per cent more than May and 15.3 above June of last year, t he Civilian Produc tion Administration announced today. Production during June was exceeded during the last three and one-half years only by Au gust, ISM 1; when 3,238,(iti5,(K)0 board feet were produced, the agency said. Production of softwoods totaled 2,203,152,000 board feet in June and hardwood amounted to btil, 055,000 board feet. The agency said largest month ly Increases, 21 per cent over May, were noted in Nevada and California. June production was 12.4 per cent above that of the previous month in South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Ari zona and New Mexico. Suit Blocks Plan To Increase Grain For Liquor Makers WASHINGTON, Aug. 27.VF) The Department of Agriculture agreed -estcrday to withhold temporarily an increase of 500, 000 bushels of grain allocated to the liquor industry after one dis tiller filed suit in federal district court alleginw the method of allo cation Is unfair. The department announced last Friday I lie September allocation will be 3,000,000 bushels, 500,000 more than i.l August. , Publiclter Industry, Inc., of Philadelohia, consumer of about one-fifth of the grain allocated to nil distillers in August, tiled the suit. It protested that the alloca tion for September was based on "ast or "historical production of each distiller, whereas in August the allocation was based on plant capacity. Counsel for Publiclter said the "historical" method of allocation is unfair to their firm because it was engaged in production of war material during the 1939-41 icriod on which the allocations were based. in August, the suit related, Publicker was allocated 20.5 per Cfnt of irain set aside for dis tillers in that month, its "big four" competitors, the suit said, got 33.5 per cent. Attorneys identified the four as Hiram Walker, Schenlev. Sea gram and National Distillers. circuit court Friday from a 16-year-old Vinnie Holdcn Sutton, whom he married last April 21. The couple separated May 3. In his petition, Sutton alleged his young bride carried on cor respondence with other men and on two occasions left home with out advising him of her whereabouts. Sutton, 74-year-old farmer wns granted a divorce in Foster Steele Retires From National Forest PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 27. UP) Retirement of Foster Steele, assistant supervisor of the Mount Hood National Forest, waa an nounced yesterday by Regional Forester Andrews. He will be succeeded Novem ber 1 by Laurence G. Jolley, now in charge of fire control in Chelan iorest, Okanogan, Wash. Steele first joined the forest service in 1905 as a ranger on the Targhee reserve in Idaho.
