VANCOUVER, B. C, June 13
(JP) Charging that the present

ship, Archbishop W. M. Duke of
the Roman Catholic diocese of

"The leaders are well-known com

elsewhere open to investigation
have been clearly and plainly
. written."
He called upon the labor move

"stand on its own feet and re

The bishoo declared he ap

Furlough Payments Bill
Receives House Approval
WASHINGTON, June 13 P
The House Tuesday passed and
sent to' the Senate legislation
giving past and present enlisted
men and women pay for furlough
time they did not receive while
in service.
The legislation sets, as a stand
ard, two and one-half days of
furlough time each month and
permits the accumulation of not
more than 120 days for which
pavment must be made in cash.
Payments are computed at the
rate of base pay received at the
time of discharge, plus allow
ances of not less than 70 cents
a day. House Military Commit
tee members have estimated ap
proximately 15,000,000 service
people would receive an average
of $250 under the legislation.
Personnel alreadv discharged
would be paid immediately upon
their own certification that they
are entitled to payments. The
amount they receive would de
pend on he amount of accrued
furlough time they certify they
had at the time of discharge.

Senators Vote Selves
Pay Hike, Pension Plan
WASHINGTON, June 13 (JP
The Senate passed and sent to
the House Tuesday legislation
reorganizing congressional ma
chinery and boosting members'
pay to $15,000 yearly.
lhe sweeping measure, ap
proved by a 49 to 16 vote, would
streamline the legislative system
by reducing the number of com
mittees and by providing each
senator and representative with
an administrative assistant.
In addition to $5,000 pay boost,
members of Congress would be
come entitled to pensions if they
contributed 6 per cent of their
annual pay and served six years
in Congress before retiring at
the age of 62 or older.
Previously, the Senate had re
jected, 43 to 22, an attempt to
limit congressional pensions to
the same rate as provided for
civil service workers. Senator
Byrd said the bill, as passed, pro
vides pensions nearly double
those of employes.
