The meeting was In charge of the president, Mrs. Harryman. plans were made for a Valentine party to be held at the hall Feb ruary 14 with a potluck supper at seven-thirty o'clock. All grange members and their families are cordially invited. A collection, totaling $4.00 was taken for the March of Dimes fund. The next regular meeting will be at a twelve-thirty o'clock potluck luncheon at the hall Feb ruary 14. Final plans will be com pleted at that time for the party lo be held at the hall that eve ning. HAS FINE MEETING GLENDALE The local union of the W. C. T. U. met in the home of Mrs. Nora Gadeeke, close to Azalea, Thursday afternoon for their regular meetinK. Mrs. Mina Johnson had the devotionals for the afternoon and Joyce Mill Rave a report on the book the group is reading, 'The Beautiful Life of Frances Willard. During the business meeting it was reported that the Union had sent a box at Christmas time to the Children's Farm Home in Corvalis. The box contained a quilt, made by the members, and several other useful articles. Sarah Pickett has also given the union anotner quilt already fin ished for the home. At the close of the meeting, Mrs. Marie Ilvinselman gave an amusing reading. The hostess served lnve)y re freshments and the members present gave their president, Vera Armstrong, and vice president, Irene Dobyns a surprise shower of birthday cards and handker chiefs. Names for Secret Pals were exchanged for the coming year. Those present for the afternoon were: Vera Armstrong, Irene Dobyns, Amanda Garrett, Lucille Harris, Mina Johnson, Mary La I'rath, Joyce Mill, Myrtle Young, Sarah Pickett, Opal Fitzgerald, and the hostess. The ques tion of whether the kingship shall be revived In Spain con tinues to be a subject of eager speculation and na'urally was one of the points which I raised in my Interview with Generalis simo Franco. Franco replied that this Is a matter which will be dealt with "when this Is suitable to the in terests of the nation" and that "it will have to be the Spaniards themselves who pronounce them selves in its favor." I broached the matter by call ing Franco's attention to the fact that his ambassador to Washing ton recently was quoted as say ing, that "Spain is steadily and progressively restoring a political situation with a more representa tive aysium. ne aaoea; "What really Interests Spain is the content of its political re gime, not Its external expression, which is considered secondary. For this reason the problem of we monarcn is not a thing which troubles us, and It will be ap proached when this Is suitable to the interests of the nation. "The important things today for nations are freedom of con science and the free exercise of human rights within a climate of peace, order,. Justice and social rights, which the Spanish bill of rights effectively guarantees. The possession by the nation of Its traditional institutions and the fact that progress in the spiritual, scientific, economic and social orders reaches the greater part of the nation are the im portant thing.
