W. PRESBYTERIAL HELD The semi - annual executive meeting of the Southwest Pres byterlal was held Tuesday after noon and Wednesday morning at the home of the president, Mrs. W. M. Discussion of the budget was fol lowed by the group planning the work for the remainder of the coming year, which will begin in April. The annual meeting of South west Presbyterial has been dated for April 9-10 at Ashland. Mrs. Bronson will have charge of the program. Mrs. O. W. Harrah, Mrs. D. L. Chase, as sisted by Mrs. Harold Bellows, Mrs. Peter Crummett, Mrs. Alva Laws and Mrs. J. Roland Parker. Additional guests at the luncheon included: Dr. Morris H. Roach, Rev. Mr. Bronson and w. M. Campbell. The invocation was given by Rev. Mr. Bronson. At noon the eucsts left for Med ford to meet Dr. William B. Lampe. moderator of the General Assembly of the church, hiKhest office which the church confers. who pave an address that evening at the First Presbyterian Church, follow ing a covered dish dinner. Dr. Lampe, pastor of West Presbyterian Church of St. Louis, Mo., is considered not only one of the outstanding ministers of the Presbyterian Church, but has been active in many channels of Chritsian service. He has been a member of the executive commit tee of the Metropolitan Church Federation in St. Louis during his entire 25 years with West Church and as chairman of the civic committee of the federation led in orcaniation of the Public Education Association. Dr. l.am)c was a member of the commiliee that brought about study of the Bible on released time in the pub lic schools ot SI. Louis. The mod erator is at present serving on the boards of both Westminster College, Fulton, Mo., and Bible College of Missouri nt Columbia, and is president of the Westmin ster Foundation of Missouri. Mrs. Bar anovich, recreational aide at the Facility, gave a talk urging the cooperation of the club member ship in entertaining patients at the Facility. Mrs. Geddes, president, conduct ed the meeting and reports were given by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Miss Estelle V. Conover and Mrs. Armour Murdock. Mrs. Kohlhagen Introduced the guest speaker, F. H. Young, of Portland, who Is a nationally known tax expert. Mr. Young pre sented the tax problem faced by Oregon; the rising rate of taxes and what is necessary to be done about it to keep the state pros perous. Mr. Young was an excel lent speaker and his talk was very greatly appreciated by the club membership. Mr. Young was obtained as speaker for the club by H. O. Pargeter. The program theme, ."My Pet Peeve," was cleverly carried out as taxes seem to hold the spotlight of a great number of persons as their own pet peeve. Mr. Young urged the women to take more interest in the tax program, to study the subject from many angles and to acquaint themselves thoroughly on all tax problems placed on election ballots. He discussed taxes already voted, the paying power of the taxpayers and of Oregon's general prosperity at this time. He reported that the state tax commission is making every effort to improve the tax program and bring outside indus tries into the state. The next club meeting will be at one-thirty o'clock at the Pres byterian Church parlors Febru ary 5, with Mrs. H. D. Scott and Mrs. Foster Butner, co-chairmen of the hostess tea committee, as sisted bv Mrs. J. D. Osborn, Mrs. H. M. Jacobson, Mrs. George M. Hrown and Mrs. J. F. Barker. The program will include a play under the direction of Miss Helen r.-isev. ANNUAL TROPHY DINNER DATE AT COUNTRY CLUB CHANGED TO JANUARY 28 The ladies of the Roseburg Country Club met Thursday at the clubhouse and plans for the annual troohy dinner were made and the date was changed from January 24, to Sunday, January 27, at five o'clock at the club house. In the absence of the cap tain, Mrs. J. F. Dillard, the meet ing was in charge of Mrs. Ken neth Adams. Contract bridge high score for the morning's play was won tv Mrs. Adams with Mrs. H. C. Stearns winning second high score. Potluck luncheon was serv ed at noon to Mrs. Kenneth Ad ams, Mrs. E. J. Rodgers, Mrs. Kenneth Quine, Miss Helen Casev, Mrs. Paul Syron, Mrs. II. T. Hansen, Mrs. K. D. Bridges, Mrs. E. J. Loney. Mrs. Bill Couri er, Mrs. E. A. Pearson and Mrs. H. C. Stearns. The afternoon's contract bridge play was won by Mrs. Hansen with Mrs. Rodgers winning the high score. Some of the ladies enjoyed five holes of golf during the afternoon. GLENGARY SEWING CLUB IS ENTERTAINED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The Glcngary Sewing Club was delightfully entertained Wednes day afternoon at the home of Mrs; Charles Keeling. New oft i cers were elected and included: Mrs. Mae Sinsley, president: Clo ver Kerr, vice-president, and .Mrs. Irene Hooten, secretary-treasurer. Plans were made for a silver tea for the afternoon of January 2.1 at the home of Mrs. Sinsley to raise money for the March of Dimes Infantile P.iralysis fund. UMPQUA MINERAL CLUB The Umpqua Mineral Club held Its annual election of oflicers on Wednesday night, In the council room of the City Hall. The min utes were read and approved, and the financial report given by the retiring secretary. Jack Wharton. President Leslie Roberts asked each member to resond to roll call with a short talk on some subject dealing with the club's welfare. Mr. Roberts himself read an Interesting article on Sil ver City, Idaho, which had ail I the rock hounds howling with enthusiasm. Mrs. Essie Kooentz and William C. Wood were wel comed as new members. The following officers were elected for the 1916 term: Presi dent, Alvin Knudtson; vice president, Clair L. Pettit; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Hilda Peter son. Committee heads were chosen as follows: Program and entertainment, Leslie Roberts; field and research, Jack Wharton; publicity and membership, Mrs. Marjorie Pettit. Everett Teater was elected Federation Director for the club. To climax an entertaining eve ning, Jack Wharton put on a colorful display of fluorescent rocks with his new "Radarlitc." Henninger, ecle-' brated his thirteenth birthday Saturday afternoon by inviting the members of Troop 4 of Boy Scouts to his home in Laurel wood. Gifts were presented to Larry in honor of the occasion and games were played during the social hours, after which Mrs. Henninger served refreshments and cut a large birthday cake at a table centered with colorful fruits and tall candles.
