Those attending are requested to bring their own ta ble service. Daughter is Born A daugh ter, weighing seven pounds and seven-tenth ounces, was born to E. E. Perkins, ACMM, U. S. Navy, and Mrs. Perkins, nee Louise Vir den, at Sacred Heart hospital ,in Eugene, Thursday, August 2. Grandparents are Mrs. C. A. Per kins of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. T. B. Virden, of Roseburg. Visiting at Irving Home Catherine Irving, seaman 1-c, has arrived from Patuxent River, Maryland, naval base, to spend a week's leave visiting her par ents, Major and Mrs. Ben B. Irv ing, in Roseburg. She is assigned to the photo laboratory at the naval base. Also visiting at the Irving home for a few days is Mrs. Irving's sister, Mrs. W. W. "Canyon Passage" To Be Filmed Near Diamond Lake MEDFORD, Ore., Aug. 6 (AP) "Canyon Passage," pio neerstory by Ernest Haycox, will be filmed in technicolor near Dia mond Lake, with many scenes photographed in Jacksonville, Wanger" Pictures, Inc., has ad vised officials here. A series of pictures of Crater Lake National park, to be printed In a. 1946 issue, will be taken the week of Aug. 15 by photogra phers of National Geographic Magazine. Crown-Zellerbach Buys Timber on Molalla River PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 6 (AP) Ostrander Railway and Timber company has sold to Crown-Zellerbach corporation a 44,4G8-acre timber tract on the Molalla river which the purchas ers say is ideal for sustained yield operation. The company now owns 420,000 acres of sustained yield tracts. The purchase will help plants in Camas, Wash., and West Linn, Ore., operate continuously. ' Logging has been carried on scientifically for some time on the tract, which will be crown Zellerbach's eighth tree farm Price was not disclosed. Morals Charge Faced By Local Telegrapher D. C. Swinford, G6. was at liberty under $500 cash bail to day following arrest on a charge of contributing to the delin quency of a minor. Swinford, a Koseourg teiegrapner, was ac cused of enticing minor girls to his room ana persuading tnem to disrobe, Justice of the Peace Thomas C Hartfiel reported. Elks All-Star Sof tballers Lose To Arago, 4 to 2 The Roseburg Elks club All- Stars suffered their first defeat of the season from an out of- town team Sunday when thev were beaten 4 to 2 in a soft bull game by the Cape Arago Lum ber company team of Empire. The visiting team included sev eral of the leading players fi'jm the North Bena league. Vang, pitching for Roseburg, had trouble controlling the ball in the first three frames, end several costly misplays, including errors and poor judgment, con tributed to the lour runs oota'.ncu by the visitors. After the th:rd inning Vang's pitching was el- fective and the visitors were unable to score. Allard kept Roseburg scoreless until the last of the seventh in ning when the Lodgemen brought in their two runs of the ball game, Mel Ingram giving a sen sational exhibition of baserun- nlng when he scored from first on a sacrifice bunt. Princen, that he has received the Bronze Star medal for hicritori ous achievement in Normandy, Holland and Bastogne and has just recently been advanced in rank to staff sergeant. He has been awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Sgt. Leo Powell has been in service for six years and was stationed in the Canal Zone prior to going to the Pacific theater. He is now with the 41st Division. He also has been wounded. Sgt. Dorwin Powell recently reached New York with the 5th Armnrnrf Division and exDects to be home on furlough in the near future and perhaps will be discharged, as he has 97 points to his credit. He wears the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. School Band Plays at Vets Facility Tonight The Rosebure School band will present a concert at the Veterans facility at 8:15 o'clock 'tonight. The concert is to be given either on the grounds In front of the main building or In the recrea tion hall, depending upon weather conditions. Officials at the facil ity report that music is highly entertalnine to patients at the hospital. The band will appear In uniiorm ana win repeat tne con cert given a week ago in the ar mory. Arrangements are being made to take the group to Reedsport Aug. -a ana z to piay lor tne Reedsport rodeo. The trip is spon sored by the Roseburg Chamber of Commorce.
