Mrs. Bertha Carlile, Mrs. . Dollie Urben and Mrs. Lucille Starr will act as hostesses. The afternoon will be spent in quilting, Red Cross and ba zaar sewing. All friends and neighbors are Invited to join the club members to enjoy the day. A shower of miscellaneous household gifts will bo given for Mr. and Mrs. Clove Miller, as the Millers' home burned Saturday. WOMAN'S CLUB TO MEET ON TUESDAY The Roseburg Woman's club will meet Tuesday afternoon from one to four o'clock at the club house. Mrs. A. J. Geddes, presi dent, urges all members and friends interested to bo present to assist with the Red Cross sew ing and to work on scrapbooks for boys in the armed forces. The club will meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month during the summer. Every third Tuesday meeting will be held at the Red Cross sewing room. MELROSE GRANGE TO MEET TUESDAY NIGHT Melrose grange will meet Tues-1 day evening at eight o'clock at the hall. Refreshments will be served. All members are re quested to be present. . In the mind of Jesus, no one might call himself truly religious who did not have an attitude to ward his neighbors, such as he desired them to have toward him. But neighborliness Is not to be limited but must answer to the needs of all men. Today, with our radio and quick modes of travel, all the world is at our door. How shall we prove neighbors to those of alien race and in distant lands? It is estimated there are three hun dred and fifty millions to bo fed and clothed this cominjj winter. This is a crucial prob lem of all Christians today. Our Christianity will be tested by the quality of our neighborli ness. Let us remember them in our devotions, for prayer clears- the vision, strengthens purpose, sweetens the spirit, fortifies the soul. It relates us to the infinite resources of the Divine. Jesus knew the secret of strength. From prayer he went forth to face the great crisis and through prayer He won the victory. Can we do better than follow his example?" Sutherlin Places Order For Fire Equipment SUTHERLIN At a meeting of the Sutherlin Volunteer Fire department, attended by the mayor, Elmer Cooper, and a com mittee appointed by the council, an order was placed for a Dodge two-ton trucK chassis. Equipment which includes a 550-gallon tank, will be made and placed on the irucK Dy Howard cooper corpora tion of Portland. It will take about sixty days for making the fire apparatus and delivery can not oe expected Delore then. Funds amounting to $5,000 had been set aside for fire fighting equipment by the city council two monins ago. The new equipment will in crease pressure of water taken from hydrants, can be used as a pumper from ponds, and will carrv a 550-gallon tank of water under pressure which will enable firemen to check fires immedi ately upon arrival. Labor-Industry Teamwork Urged BySchwelfenbach WASHINGTON, July 14 (AP) Labor and management Jointly share the responsibility of avert ing industrial strife, says the new Secretary of Labor, Lewis Schwellenbach. In a radio address last night Schwellenbach told labor that for its part it should abide bv the no- strike pledge. Management on the other hand, he said, should avoid those things "which provoke men and tempt mem to act iirst ana reason later." Likewise, he declared, the two groups must shoulder eaual re sponsibility In developing what he lermca a postwar economy of plenty with a strong consuming power." If that goal is to be reached, he said, short-sighted management should not seize upon the chance io reduce wages and smash the unions.
