SILVER TEA TO BE
LARGE EVENT OF
SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Final plans have been made by
the University of Oregon Moth
ers club committees for the
charming silver tea to be sponsor
ed by the club Saturday after
noon, April 14, from two-thirty to
Jour-thlrty o'clock, at the Len B.
Fishback home on the corner of
S. Kane and East Lane streets.
A most cordial invitation has
been extended to the public to
enjoy the occasion, which will
honor Mrs. Golda Parker Wick
ham, dean of women of the Uni
versity of Oregon. All girls of the
Junior and Senior High schools,
their mothers and teachers are
especially urged to attend. All
women interested in the Univer
sity are Invited to enjoy the oc
casion. Proceeds of the tea will be used
for furnishing a room in the me
morial building at the university.
The club sponsors a benefit tea
annually to raise funds to assist
, in some manner various projects
and scholarships of the univer
sity. The program committee has ar
ranged a fine entertainment for

of friends gathered and surprised
Mrs. Dorothy Boling at her home
in Lookingglass, the occasion be
ing her birthday. The group pre
sented Mrs. Boling with a lovely
myrtlewood bowl.
The evening was spent playing
numerous card games.
At a late hour delicious refresh
ments were served by Mrs. Ben
Jacoby and Mrs. Perley Oar, to
Mrs. Boling, the honored guest,
her husband, Clifford Boling,

tonight, April 13, at eight o'clock

is leaving April 18 for service in
the U. S. army. All members of
the grange, friends and neighbors

Women's Study club at her home
Thursday afternoon. A dessert
luncheon was served before the
meeting. Mrs. Harvey Cockeram,
president, called the meeting to
order. Roll-call was answered
by quotations from "Collect for
Club Women," written by Mary
Stuart. Mrs. Hogan gave an in
teresting paper on "American
Homes" followed by a fine paper
by Mrs. Lewlie Chapman on "Ed
ucation." Mrs. Houser and Mrs.
Lamberson of the Shoestring dis
trict were voted Into the club.
Those present included two
guests, Mrs. Vcneta Kandel of
Portland and Mrs. Georgia Under
wood of Oakland. Members pres

Wright, who was home on a short

bride left for a short wedding
tour en route to a southern port
where the groom will return to
immediate service and the bride
after seeing her husband off to

to await his return.
DEMONSTRATION HELD
AT INTERESTING MEETING
LOOKINGGLASS A demon
stration was given at the school
house Thursday evening by Miss
Doris McWhortcr, on care and
maintenance of electrical equip
emnt. This demonstration was en
joyed by the ladies and also by
the men who were present Miss
McWhorter will give another
demonstration May 4 on meat
cookery. All the ladies in the val
ley are urged to be present.
EASTER SALE IS
SUCCESS AT YONCALLA
YONCALLA The W. S. C. S.
of the Yoncalla Methodist church
cleared over $250 on their recent
Easter food and rummage sale.
The money realized for this will
be used to put a new cement side
walk on the south side of the
' rhurrh. Thev wish to thank ev-

GARDEN CLUB HAS
MEETING TUESDAY
CAMAS VALLEY The Garden
club met on Tuesday with Mrs.
Frank Brown. Twenty-two wom
en were present After a tour
through the primrose garden a
business meeting was held. The
president gave an account of the
disposition of the last dish gar
dens prepared by the club and
the high school students. It was
decided to make more if they
were needed. Mrs. Helen Mayer
reported that she had made her
second trip to the blood bank and
would go again in May. Other
members had been unable to go
because of a lack of room in the
bus. Plans were made for a dele
gation to attend a meeting in
Rosebure to plan for an exten
sion agent for next year. The May
meeting will be at tne nome oi

Truman to be a member of the
Baptist faith, his pastor, the Rev.
