LaBrie Ritchie, USMCR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ritchie, Rose burg, at a very impressive cere mony at the Shatto Chapel of tne I'irst congregational churcn In Los Angeles, December 18. Dt. Willsie Martin performed the ceremony at 8 o'clock in the ev ening in the presence of relatives and friends of the couple. The, bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was very beautiful in a floor-length wed ding gown of white satin fash ioned with-yoke of lace with high neckline and long sleeves. Her fingertip veil fell from a Mary Queen of Scots headdress and she carried a shower bouquet of orchids and bouvardla. Miss Mary Frances Finch, cousin of the MID-WEEK BIBLE CLASS IS ENTERTAINED AT SCHLICK HOME THURSDAY Mrs. A. Schlick very graciously entertained the Mid-Week Bible class of St. Paul's Lutheran church at her home at 108 W. Mosher street Thursday after noon. Sprays of pine with the pine cones were attractively ar ranged in the room decorations, while the table was centered with a lovely bowl of holly flanked by candlelabra and tapers. The Bible class lesson was bas ed on Matthew 22:1-20, contain ing the parable of the wedding garment. The business session was conducted by the chairman, Mrs. Schlick, and was followed by a very enloyable social hour, after which Mrs. Schlick served lovely refreshments to: Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Sylwester and sons, Herbert, John, Richard, Milton and Robert Lee; Mrs. Fromdahl and son, Daniel; Mrs. Andraieff, Mrs. L. Murphy, Mrs. Louise Voigt, Mrs. William Vogt, Mrs. A. Erny,' Mrs. M. CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL AFTERNOON MEETING ON WEDNESDAY Mrs. Charles Poirot graciously entertained the Roseburg Art and Embroidery club at her home on Mill street Wednesday afternoon. Chrysanthemums and ,holly were used in the attractive bouquets about the rooms. Two very Interesting games were played, and enjoyed, after which a snort business session was held and at the tea hour, Mrs. Poirot, assisted by Mrs. Hou- ser, served delicious refresh ments. She car ried a shower bouquet of red roses. Lt. Norman Verry, USMCR, was oest man. A reception followed in the church, after which the bride and bridegroom left for Monterey, Calif., and Roseburg, Ore., on their honeymoon and were guests over Christmas of the bride groom's parents in Garden val ley. They will make their home at Laguna, Calif. The bride was graduated from University of Southern Califor nia. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority; member of Ama zons and president of Motar Board. The bridegroom attend ed Oregon State college and Xlni versity of 'Southern California and is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. ENGAGEMENT TOLD AT NEWSPAPER STAFF'S CHRISTMAS PARTY Of much interets is the announ cement of, the. engagement of Stanley (Mac) Hogan, formerly of Oakland, Ore., and Miss Evelyn Reno, Napa, Idaho, at the annual Christmas party held by the Napa Register newspaper staff in that city Saturday eve ning, preceding the holiday. The actual announcement was made by Whitfield Griffiths, Reg ister business manager. The couple, both of whom are em ployed on the paper, have set no definite date for the wedding, although they are planning to be married within the year 1945. The bride-elect Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Reno, of Napa. She was graduated in 1943 from the Napa high school. where her talents were directed to lournalism as editor of the NUHS. She has been employed in tne business olllce ot the iapa Register since being graduated from high school. Mrs. Pearl Harvey, of Oak land. Ore., is the grandmother of the bridegroom-elect. He graduated from Oakland high school and then entered the service with Co. D. 162nd In fantry, Roseburg. and served three years with the Guard and four years with the regular United States army, seeing ser vice in Australia, where he was wounded. He has been in Napa since last spring; first veterans' representative with the state Employment Service and since September as the Register's advertising manager. MRS. HALLMARK IS HOSTESS TO BRIDGE CLUB THURSDAY NIGHT Mrs. Maurice L. Hallmark en tertained her bridge club at her lovely home on Overlook Thurs day evening. Chrysanthemums were used in the decorations. Hieh scores for the evening's bridge play were won by Mrs. Ivan Pickens, for guests, arid Mrs. Fred Lockwood for the members, with Mrs. Bowker winning the second high score. FAMILY REUNION HELD AT PERRY WRIGHT HOME OVER THE HOLIDAYS The home of Mr. and Mrs. Per ry Wright, at Illahee on the North Umpqua, was the scene of a happy family gathering on Christmas eve, and Christmas day, when three of Mr. Wright's brothers- and their families met there to spend Christmas with them. When greetings had been ex changed, a basket dinner was en Joyed. ' The remainder of the after noon and evening were spent by the older, ones in pleasant visit ing, and by the younger members in hiking and sightseeing. Christmas morning at 10:30 the delayed puests, M r s. Walter Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Donivan Wright, having arrived, everyone gathered in the large living room for a short Christmas service and Christmas tree. After the singing of Christmas songs and prayer, the gifts were distributed and opened. Then all went outside for family group pictures. At 2 o'clock the sixteen guests were seated around the long ta ble in the living room to enjoy the bountiful Christmas dinner, after which the Walter Wright family departed for home, the rest remaining until the next morning. Later In the afternoon Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Onoertshauser and daughters of Glide, came for a brief visit, which added much to the day's pleasure. Mr. Onports hauser is nastor of the Baptist church at Glide. Those present for Christmas dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. John B. Wright of Creswell. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright of Garden Vallev. their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. .and Mrs. Alvin Sanders and sons, Arlen, Dean and Rannie, of Vannort, and their son and daughtcr-in-iaw, Mr. and Mrs. Donivan Wright of Stock ton. BETA SIGMA PHI HAS CHARMING HOLIDAY PARTY The annual 'Christmas partv of the Beta Sigma Phi was held at the home of Mrs. Virginia RIordan, Thursday, Instead of the usual business meeting Christ- mas stories were read bv Mrs, Betty Jane Davis and Christmas records were plaved. Miss Alice Virginia Hanes, program director, presented the club members with very attract ive program booklets and out lined the club program for 1945. Child The first meeting of the new year for the Roseburg Woman's, club was enjoyed at a charming one-thirty o'clock desert-luncheon Tuesday at the clubhouse and w as dedicated to the '95 Mental Cul ture club and its founder, Mrs. George It. Child, now a resident of Sun Francisco. Mrs. George M.- Brown, regent of the D. A. R. and Mrs. Marie Flint McCall acted as general chairmen of the line program and other representatives from the D. A. H., as special gucsls were: Mrs. D. N. Busenbark and Mrs. W. M. Campbell. Charier members of the club received and included: Mrs. George M. Brown, Mrs. Marie Flint McCall, Mrs. James E. Sawyers, Miss Jeannie Buick and Mrs. J. F. Barker. Hostesses for the occasion were: Mrs.-Foster Butner, chair man, Mrs. W. H. Richardson, Mrs. J. F. (Mllard, Mrs. Henry Car stens, Mrs. G. W. Davis, Mrs. W. E. Andrews, Mrs. Harry F. Hat field and Mrs. Maud Fields. Very beautiful arrangements of I P'"k chrysanthemums, heather :ind sprays of greenery graced the tallies and were attractively arranged in bouquets about the room. Delightful roll-call topics were presented by: Mrs. Kenneth Ford, "Chinese Art;" Mrs. W. R. Brown, hobby chairman, paid tri bute to the former members and introduced Mrs. W. M. Campbell, who gave an interesting talk on the .late Mrs Helen G. Smick, mother of Mrs. F. H. Churchill, of Roseburg, and referring to her music, poetry and art. Mrs. Brown exhibited clothing worn by the late Miss Frances Howell, (sister of Mrs. George Kohl hagen), which had been worn during the first years of the Men tal Culture club. Mrs. Sawyers told of the hospitality of the club and her mother, Mrs. Rast, in the early AO's ami displayed a tea set used in thojr home at that time. The last tribute was paid to the late Mrs. W. R. Willis, who was a lover of fine trees and added so greatly to this communi ty by the planting of rare and beautiful specimans such as the tulip tree, Kentucky coffee tree, Judas tree and many others found on the streets and in the yards of Roseburg. Mrs. Homer Grow had charge of the program and introduced Mrs. E. F. Waggoner, who very charmingly sang in costume, "Alice Blue Gown," and "Thej Second Minute." Mrs. George M. Marsters will act as co-chairmen of the hostess com mittee. The next Red Cross sewing meeting of the club will be held January 10 at 1 o'clock at the clubhouse. BADOURA CLUB MEMBERS TO SEW FOR SHRINE HOSPITAL ON TUESDAY All members of Hie Badoura club, Daughters of the Nile are asked to attend a one-fifteen o'clock dessert-luncheon next Tuesday at the home of Mrs. W. C. Holmes, on East Douglas St., lo spend the afternoon sewing for the Shrine hospital. I Iff 1 BELLVIEW CLUB '' CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY WEDNESDAY The Bellview club celebrated Its twenty-fifth anniversary at a very delicious onp o'clock potluck luncheon Wednesday ot the home of Mrs. Bessie Pearee on Deer creek. Beautiful holiday decora tions were arranged about the rooms, while the table was cen tered with a lurge anniversary cake decorated and topped by the club's name and the date of Its being founded. Jim Smith prefers the State college at Corvallis. Miss Virginia Roselund read amusing selections from the new book by Miss Allyn Porter, "Pa pa Was a Preacher" and also told of her joy in the art courses at the state university in Eugene. Three young people represented the Methodist school at Salem, Willamette university. They wero Miss Ann Elliott, Miss Freta Hen drickson and Mack Brown, and each told of their school from distinctly different angles. Mack is a naval student In V-12 train ing.
