Mrs. Peter Cowan, Smith River, Dies REEDSPORT Mrs. Peter Cow an, 69, one of the lower Umpqua community's best known women, died Saturday night at her Smith river home. Born April 3, 1875, ot Ottawa, Canada, the daughter of Hugh and Sarah Cassidy, she dame' with her parents to Smith river in 1881. She was married Novem ber 7, 1891, to Peter Cowan, who was an early-day member of the Umpqua coast guard station, and who, since retirement from that service in 1910, has been engaged in farming and dairying. Mr. and Mrs. Cowan celebrat ed their 53rd wedding anniver sary at their farm home last November 7- Surviving are the husband; a daughter, Margaret Cowan Smith; a son, Oliver Cowan, Smith river, and a son, Jack, now with the U. s. navy in the South Pacific. She also leaves a broth er, Dan Cassidy, San Franpisco; two sisters, Mrs. jonn ituey, san Francisco, and Mrs. Joe Feldman, Portland, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. Ann's Catholic church in Rcodsport at 11 a- m. Wednesday with interment following in the Reedsport Masonic cemetery.
