A long table was spread under the large oak trees for the pic nic. Those present to enjoy the day were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ritchie, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. CANYONVILLE GETS AUXILIARY UNIT Mrs. Frank von Borstel, de partment president of the Amer can Legion auxiliary, and Mrs. Mae Whltcomb, department sec retary, left Portland Wednesday to Institute a new auxiliary unit at Canyonville that evening. The unit members were Initiated and the officers were installed, after which the charter was presented. Later a charter will be presented to a new unit at Wheeler, which has been recently organized. The addition of these two new units brings the membership of the American Legion auzillary In Oregon to an all-time high record of 7260 members to date. SOCIAL NIGHT TO BE HELD AT RIVERSOALE GRANGE SATURDAY RIversdale grange has an nounced a social night affair for Saturday, July 29th, at 9 p. m. at the hall. The grange members and their invited guests are asked to enjoy the affair. The kitchen commtitee is in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ogle and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ulrlch. PIE SOCIAL TO BE HELD SATURDAY NIUHT A pie social will be held Satur day night, July 29, at 9 o'clock at the Kellogg grange hall. An Interesting program has been planned as entertainment for the occasion and prizes will be given those having the most original and the prettiest containers. CHICKEN SUPPER TO BE HELD TONIGHT GLIDE A chicken supper and social will be held tonight, July 28, at the Glide Christian church. All residents of the community are cordially Invited. CAMPFIRE GROUP TO HAVE FOOD SALE The Iiiquols Campflre group of Green will sponsor a cooked food sale, Saturday, July 29, at Pow ell's Hardware. The money will be used to buy supplies and uni forms for the group. Members taking part are: Joyce Claypool, Gladys Lewis, Phyllis Jacobs, Shirley Fisher, Donna and Max ine Fariss, Mary Lynn Hahn, Lei la Adams, Kama Henson, treas urer; Norma Fisher, chairman; and Bernlce Lounsbury, scribe. 0. E. S. PICNIC TO BE HELD JULY 30TH The annual O. E. S. picnic for the Canyonville, Riddle, Glendale and Myrtle Creek chapter mem bers and their families will be held at the Canyon Auto Park Sunday, July 30. The committee In charge includes: Etta Shaw, Marian Gill and Eevelyn Harry. CAMAS VALLEY GRANGE HOLDS MEETING CAMAS VALLEY The grange had their monthly social evening Tuesday. A series of alphabetical games were played after which delicious cherry cobbler and cof fee was served by the home eco nomics chairman. The next meet ing will be August 8th. Boys' Camp Will Be Held at Bridge The 10th annual Boys' camp, sponsored by the Men's 99 classes of the Christian churches of Ore gon will open at Bridge, Coos county, July 31, continuing through Aug. 5. Willie White will serve as director, and Rev. Len B. Fishback will be dean. These two leaders will be assisted by five students from Northwest Christian college, Eugene. A school bus and two private cars will be required to transport the boys to and from the camp. ' All boys attending from Rose burg, Yoncalla and Glide are to , be registered and ready to leave 4 from the Roseburg Christian church at 8 a. m. Monday, July 31. The registration desk will be open for payment of. camp fees by 7:30 a. m. Monday. The camp will Include boys from 10 to 15 years of age. Ceiling Prices for New Peach Crop Listed by Board Ceiling prices for the new crop of peaches have been re ceived by the local War Price and Rationing board, according to an announcement by L. V. Ham mock, chairman. Peaches grown in Oregon, grad ed and packed in the approved No. 35 lug, weighing not less than 17 pounds nor more than 19 pounds, may not exceed $1.48, f. o. b. the farm, for sales to oth er than ultimate consumers. This same lug when sold to the ulti mate consumer, f. o. b. the farm, may not exceed $2.54. When de livered to the premises of the re tail store the farmer may get $1.91. When purchased from a retail store the ceiling price is $2.63. Oregon peaches graded and packed in an approved No. 36 lug, weighing not less than 19 pounds nor more than 21 pounds, are priced at $1.64, f. o. b. the farm, to other than consumers. When sold to the consumer, f. o. b. the farm, the price may not ex ceed $2.83. This size lug deliv ered to the premises of the retail store may not be sold for more than $2.13. The retail price to the consumer is $2.93. Peaches packed in any other size container, loose and ungrad ed (orchard run) are 6.6 cents a pound f. o. b. the farm except when sold to the consumer, when the ceiling price is 12 cents a pound. If the farmer delivers the peaches to the retail store his price may not exceed 9 cents a pound and the ceiling price to the consumer on that basis is 13c a pound. Peaches sold in bulk should be weighed and priced according to the above prices, Hammock said. Local News Visiting From Glide Mrs. Fan nie Smith of Glide visited in Roseburg Thursday. McNeil Speaks at Rotary About Scotland Rv. Archie McNeil, minister at the Presbyterian church dur ing the absence of Dr. Morris Roach, was the main speaker at the Rotary club meeting Thurs day noon. He spoke on the cus toms and the country-side of Scotland. He was born and edu cated there aid Is very familiar with his native land. Mrs. McNeil played two Scotch airs on the vibra-phone. Hall of the army medical corps, stationed at King man, Arizona, is visiting in Rose burg with his sister, Mrs. Wilkinson. Picnic to Be Held The annual Drain Normal picnic will be held Sunday, July 30, at a one o' clock basket dinner at the com munity baV at Drain. All former students of the Drain Normal school, their families and friends are invited to attend. Taken to Portland Harvey Starlt, Roseburg resident, was taken by ambulance this week to Portland, where he entered the Veterans hospital for mdical treatment. Mr. Stark has been very ill at his home in the Hotel Umpqua for the last several weeks. His wife is manager of the Mode O-Day shop here. Home On Leave Seaman Sec ond'Class Harold Daniels arrived this week on leave for a visit with his parents at his home in Edenbower. Seaman Daniels has been stationed at San Diego and has been gone nine weeks. Leaves For California Mrs. Elaine Sclles accompanied her husband, Sgt. George Selies, to California Tuesday after he ar rived in Roseburg from Portland, where he has been stationed. Mrs. Selies will live with Sgt. Sclles' parents at Lodi, California. She has been employed at Easton's grocery, operated by her father, Henry East on. 4 Die as Storms Lash Wide Area (Zv the Associated Press.) At least three people were killed and a fourth died of a .heart attack In storms yesterday which ranged from Mississippi to Kansas and which in one spot peached an 80-mlle an hour ve-Jocity. Two of the dead were soldiers. Cpl. William A. Hall, 25, of Lu cas, Ohio, was killed and a doz en others were Injured In a storm demolishing four buildings at the Greenwood, Miss., army air base.
