Short talks were given and a floral drill was presented for the new honored queen, after which " visiting and dancing were enjoy ed and later refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Ponsomby, of Azalea, furnished several delightful musical num bers, which wore greatly enjoy ed. TILLICUM BRIDGE CLVB IS ENTERTAINED SUTHERLIN Mrs. Anton Coenenberg and Mrs. J. D. Col lier graciously entertained the Tilllcum bridge club at a lovely one-thirty o'clock luncheon at the beautiful home of Mrs. Coen enberg on the Pacific highway Wednesday afternoon. Iris, roses and columbine formed the at tractively arranged bouquets about the rooms. Covers were placed for: Mrs. E. J. Loney, Mrs. Clifford Par rott, Mrs. Paul Trozoll, Mrs. E. H. Randall, Mrs. Brlttaln Slack, Miss Mary Alice Raudall, Mrs. Lyelle Palmer, Mrs.' Lawrence Robertson, Mrs. William DeWItt, Mrs. C. C. Watson, Mrs. Wilbur Payne, and the hostesses, Mrs. Coenenberg and Mrs. Collier. The pleasant afternoon was spent in playing auction bridge with Mrs. DeWitt winning high, Mrs. Trozcllo, low, and Mary Alice the traveling goose. MR- AND MRS. ALLEN HONORED ON ANNIVER8ARY YONCALLA Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Allen, who celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary re cently were honored at a party given by the members of the Hayhurst community club at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Friday evening. Walter mire was hostess for the Sun shine club at her home Wednes day afternoon. A cake guessing contest was held with Mrs. Swalls receiving first prize and Mrs. Chadwlck second prize. Each person present told when and why they came to Oregon. The regular business meeting was held and it was voted to dis continue the club until Septem ber except for special meetings or picnics. AUXILIARY TO 8PONSOR DANCE AT FACILITY THIS EVENING The department of Oregon, V. f. W. auxiliary will sponsor a de lightful dance tonight from 7:45 to 10 p. m. at the Veterans Ad ministration facility. The last dance of the season to be held at the Facility has been planned by tho Gray Ladies for the evening of June 16. Members and friends are also invited. WOMEN GOLFERS INVITED TO COUNTRY CLUB FOR OPENING THURSDAY Opening of the weekly day bf the ladies of the Roseburg Coun try club will be held Thursday at the club course with the golfers teeing off at 9 a. m. Rotary Hears Talks On Planning and Television Percy Croft and Puul Lund en tertained on the Rotary program at the luncheon meeting held last week by the club, with Mr. Croft giving a 15-minuto t'alk on the work being done by the city plan ning committee of the city coun cil and Mr. Lund demonstrating an oscilloscope an electric instru ment that records sounds and vi brations and which is the princi ple used In television. Lamb, former pastor of the Presbyterian church of Sutherlin f.or many years, died Saturday at Nelscott, Ore gon. Word has been received that Mrs. George Bailey of Molalla, Ore., former resident of Suth erlin is recovering nicely from a goiter operation in Eugene and has been able to. return to her home. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Gilchrist entertained Mr. and Mrs. Mon ger, the new principal and wife, at breakfast Thursday morning. Mrs. Mable Ross and sister, Mrs. Victor Bryant, returned to Sutherlin Sunday from Portland, having spent Friday and Satur day with the former's daughter. Mrs. Donald Moore, and daugh ter-in-law, Mrs. Donald Ross. Mrs. Dave Cooper and grand daughter, Yvonne Wofford, spent Sunday at the D. E. Barnes home in Oakland, Ore. Mrs. Victor Bryant left Mon day for Ashland where she will attend summer school at the Ashland normal. Mr. and Mrs. Omer Monger are spending a few days in Suth erlin acquainting themselves with the school work, which they will begin September 1, and in cidcntly looking for a place to live In. Glide GLIDE Mrs. C. D. Glenn has returned to Taft, Calif., to join Mr. Glenn after spending several days, at her home here and In Corvaliis where she visited with her daughter, Miss Patricia. Mr. Glenn Is employed in Taft and they will make their home there. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis have moved to their home on the N. Umpqua road from the Harry Kinnear place near Idleyld. The members of the Glide Christian church have received an invitation to attend the grad uation exercises of the North west Christian College in June. Their pastor. Rev. Vernon Fish back is a member of the graduat ing class. Rev, Mr. Fishback has resigned as pastor of the church to accept the office of state field secretary for the Christian En deavor, with headquarters in Portland. He leaves the middle of June to assume his new duties. Herbert Melvln, who Is serving with the marines, visited this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Melvln, and sister, Mrs. Harry Davis. Also visiting at the Melvln home was Miss Grace Chappelle of Portland.' Cecil Thompson of the U. S. na vy visited friends at Glide last Tuesday. This is the first leave he has had since war broke out, as he had enlisted prior to that time and has been on duty in the Pacific area. While getting off the bus in Roseburg he met his brother-in-law, Lawrence West, a member of the merchant marine, who was leaving on the same bus after being home on leave.
