The club meeting yas held at which time new officers were elected and in cluded: Vila LaRaut, president, Harvey Carey, vice president, Doris Howard, secretary, and Mrs. Kenneth Barneburg, treas urer. After the business meeting the teachers presented a Mothers' and Fathers- day program in which all the students took part. Mrs. Earleback Introduced the five eighth grade graduates, each student giving a short talk, after which they were presented with their diplomas by the chairman of the board, Vernon LaRaut. Those graduating were: George Hoefer, Lloyd Noris, Marie Wain scott, Dorothy May Land and Robert Irving. Mrs. Willshire and Mrs. Tom Godley have accepted positions as' instructors in the Wilbur school the coming year. O. E. S. NO. 57 TO MEET ON WEDNESDAY Oregon Chapter No. 57, 0. E. S. will meet at 8:15 o'clock Wed nesday evening .at the chapter rooms at Canyonville with Au drey Ulam, worthy matron, pre siding. FORSYTHE GUILD HAS INTERESTING MEETING AT SAWYERS HOME A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mrs. James E. Sawyers by the members of the Forsythe Guild Thursday. The Guild met a week early, as sever al of the members who are leaving for the. summer, were able to be present. The business session was pre sided over by the vice-president, Miss Vera Fredrickson. Miss DoJ ma Grobe led the devotions from First Corinthians 13. Mrs. W. M. Campbell arranged an interesting program of vari ous articles of missionary inter est, which were assigned to the members to be read to the group. Staff Assistance Course Dated Here By Red Cross Unit The Douglas county chapter of the American Red Cross an nounces a course for staff assist ance will1 be given In Roseburg, -beginning June 7. This Is the first itime that such a course has been offered in Douglas conty, and It1 offered in Douglas county, and it ceived with enthusiasm. The course Is being directed by Mrs. Violet C. Hannon, executive secretary of the Douglas county chapter, and will consist of five 4-hour lessons, with lecturess. A written examination will be given at the completion of the course and those passing will receive pins, certificates and will be en titled to wear the regulation uni form of the staff assistant. The first meeting will be held June 7, from 1 to 5 p. m. and the sneakers on this date will be J. Ross Hutchinson, chairman of the Douglas county chapter, American Red Cross, and Mrs. El len A. Post, home service secre tary. At the following meeting, on June 14, Mrs. Ethel Littler, county health nurse and Mrs. Vclle Broadway, chalman of hos pital and recreation, will be the speakers. Irving is spending his leave in Roseburg visiting his wife and son, John, at their home in Lau- relwood. Major Irving spent 19 months overseas, a year of which was spent in North Africa, and he has just recently graduated from the cavalrv school at Fort Riley, Kans. His mother, Mrs. L." A. Irving, resides at Wilbur, Leaves for Montana George Lucas, grandson of Mrs. Paul Blaskey of Roseburg, spent the weekend at the coast, visited Al len Bolce at Langlols and then left Roseburg last evening for Bozeman, Mont., to attend Mon tana State college, where he has been given a seolarshlp by the army air forces, In which he re cently enlisted. He made his home here with his grandmother. Allen Knudtson Will Get Eagle Scout Award A special meeting has been call ed by the Boy Scout council for 8 p. m. Tuesday at the First Christian church for the purpose of conferring the Eagle Scout award, one of the highest honors of the organization, upon Allen Knudtson, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Knudtson, Roseburg, , Knudt-; son has been spending the past year at the University of Idaho, where he has been in training in the navy V-5 program, but is home on brief leave.
