Last week 1 ate my first rhubarb pie which, with the coming of the circus, is all the proof I need. I've never been able to define the odor of a circus exactly that Is, .what you might call the overall odor; I can spot a few of the more individualistic smells without difficulty. But whatever it is, it's entrancing and exhilar ating.. Predominant is the fra grance of trampled grass. The act which Interested me the most was Jorgen Christian sen's trained Criollo stallions. I don't know what "Criollo" means, but didn't need to. The horses are beauties and painstakingly train ed to perform any number of in tricate maneuvers. Captain Chris tiansen himself was a familiar figure. I've seen his masterly, ex hibitions in many a circus in past years, as I assume you, too, have. , The Escalante troupe, aerial Ists, provided the necessary thrills as they swung unerringly (sometimes blindfolded) from bar to bar high above the heads of the crowd. The members of tills family worked swiftly, pre cisely and gracefully. Dominion." He spoke before a large audience at the Roseburg church. "History records the human race's effort to obtain a greater sense of freedom," he declared. "All right endeavor Is impelled by a desire to overcome that which llmts or restricts, and to attain that which brings freedom and liberation. The human race, on its upwar march, has In stinctively rebelled against any- thing that would try to take away Its religious, political or ec onomic liberty. Pointing out that in the crea tion God gave man "dominion" over created things, the speaker pointed out that "freedom Is man's natural status, bestowed upon him by his creator. In looking back upon the liv es of those who have been the greatest benefactors of our race, there is one who stands out above them all," the speaker said. "Our great Master, Jesus the Christ, possessed and demonstrated a greater measure of freedom than anyone who has ever lived. He overcame and destroyed every form of bondage that flesh Is heir to. False theology has taught us that He was endowed with some supernatural power which made this possible, but the Biblical rec ord and secular history complete ly refute this. The Scriptures con tain many unfailing proofs that many others besides Jesus avail ed themselves of divine power and thus attained their freedom from adverse condtlons.
