Smulln home on Del Norte street, Eureka, Calif., for the pretty wedding ceremony, when Ensign William Theodore Rayburn Saari, of Pine City, Minn., claimed Elizabeth Jean Byrd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Byrd, of Roseburg, as his bride, March 5. The nuptials took place at one-thirty o'clock. Attendants were Miss Betty Matthias and Ensign Roger Sloan. The bridal procession ad vanced to the improvised altar as transcribed music was played and the ritual was read by Rev. R. R. Pulliam, Baptist clergyman. The lovely bride, titian haired and one of the most attractive young ladies in Eureka, wore a long white chiffon wedding gown with gardenias in her hair and she carried a bridal bouquet of gardenias and yellow rosebuds. Miss Matthias wore a becoming pink formal frock and carried pink rosebuds. The reception was held at the Smullin home, where spring flow ers were arranged about the rooms and on the bride's table around the wedding cake, which was cut by the bride and bride groom and served by the former's sister, Mrs. R. R. Levy, nee Lois Byrd, of Portland, Ore. Mrs. Rob ert Byrd, of Grants Pass, sister-in-law of the bride, poured and assisting in the serving were: Mrs. James Martin, Mrs. Robert Lundeen, associates of the bride at KIEM radio station, and Miss Betty Fuller, sister-in-law of W. Elizabeth Jean Byrd Out-of-town guests incuded the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Byrd of' Roseburg; her sister, Mrs. R. R. Levy, of Portland; her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Byrd, of Grants Pass, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Earl Byrd, of Roseburg. For traveling, the bride chose a powder blue suit with white and navy accessories and following the reception the bride and bride groom left for a brief honeymoon, after which they returned to live ,in:an apartment at 1143 K street, Eureka, (Jallr. . :; ' ' The bride is a popular mem ber of the younger set of Rose burg. She was graduated from Roseburg high school and Sacra mento Junior college at Sacra mento, Calif., where she majored in dramatics and radio subjects and appeared in many college productions. For the last three months, she has been engaged as radio announcer-technician at KIEM, Eureka, California. In ad dition to her family who attended the wedding, she has three broth ers, Earl Byrd, of Roseburg; Lt. Ira Byrd of Fort Stockton, Texas, and Corporal Roy Byrd, New York. The bridegroom attended schools in Minnesota before en listing in the Navy. He was grad uated from Lakehurst, New Jer sey, where he was commissioned an ensign. He is stationed at the Humboldt Bay Naval Section base, lighter-than-air division. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam M. Bouquets of spirea, flowering quince, lilacs, hyacinths and pansies curried cut a pretty spring motif. An interesting quiz game was played and prizes were awarded after which Mrs. C H. Bnilev piano solos. At the tea hour re freshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Decker, Mrs. Bargh and Mrs. Snyder. Those enioying the afternoon with Mrs. Kent included: Mrs. H. CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING WEDNESDAY EVENING Miss Agnes Pitchford and her sister, Mrs. Leah Welch, were joint hostesses at a very charm ing six-thirty o'clock dinner Wed nesday evening, when they en tertained the T. N. club at the Hotel Rose. ' Following the dinner, the group went to the Pitchford home for an enjoyable social hour of cards. Prizes for bingo went to: Mrs. Robert Keefe and Mrs. Sherman Morris; gin rum my prizes were won by Mrs. Cliff Thornton and Mrs. Paul Morgan, and pinochle prizes were award ed to Mrs. Bruce Lattin and Mrs. Howard Marsh. ALMA MCAFEE ENTERTAINS PAST 4 PRESIDENTS CLUB Mrs. Alma McAfee graciously entertained the Past Presidents club of George Starmer auxiliary to United Spanish War Veterans Friday at a charming one o'clock luncheon at her home. Colorlul spring flowers were used to car ry out a pretty decorative motif for the occasion. Mrs. McAfee is ,a past . president of the Marsh field club. Covers were placed for: Mrs. Myrtle Norwood, a guest, and Mrs. W. 'C. Prlntz,' Mrs. Hubert Wright, Mrs. Margaret Rodgers, Mrs. H. A. Taylor, Mrs. J. F. FINE MEETING IS HELD BY MELROSE GRANGE ON TUESDAY Melrose grange met Tuesday evening with the master, Amy Kruse, presiding. After officers seating drill, the business meet ing was held. The new members were introduced and responded with a few words. It was report ed that Capt. Robert Bonebrake had been In Hired during training, but not seriously. Several new stars were added to the serivce flag. The program consisted of readings by Katherine Petrequln and Mildred Bonebrake; com munity singing of Easter songs; an agriculture quiz by Edna Mat thews, and a contest by all. Refreshments were served to 3G members, and the tables were decorated with the Easter motif. F. hall for a potluek dinner. which was enjoyed by a large number of members and friends. The lodge decided to send some 'odge equipment to Dayton lodge, which recently lost theirs by fire. Following lodge, an amusing kit was presented by Lydia, itoadman and Emma Taylor.
