Brand and daughter, Miss Barbara, and son, Donald, entertained at a very lovely one-thirty o'clock New Year's day dinner at their attrac tive home in West Moreland, hav ing as guests Mrs. M. D. Brand, of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Beard and daughter, Miss Marilyn, and son, Donald; Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Campbell and daugh ter. Miss Elizabeth, and Mrs. F. H. Churchill. Colorful fruits and tall lighted tapers graced the beautifully ap pointed table. Visiting was en joyed during the pleasant after noon hours C1..J, COMING SUNDAY HUNT'S INDIAN THEATRE 1 0 V The bride is a registered nurse at the Lockheed plant and was formerly an airline , stewardess for the American Airlines from New York to Chicago. She will continue her work at Lockheed. ; The bridegroom is very well known in Roseburg, where he has many friends. He was grad uated from Roseburg high school and was a student at University of Oregon, before entering the U. S. army. He was recently transferred from Desert Center, Cailf., to San Francisco. CHRISTMAS CLUB HAS CHARMING DINNER AND PARTY FRIDAY EVENING II I The Christmas club members entertained their husbands at a very charming seven o'clock din-1 ner at the Hotel Umpqua Friday evening, after which the group went to the attractive home of Dr. and Mrs. Clair K. Allen on Watson street. j The annual Christmas party fol lowed and gifts mere exchanged, after which bridge was in play with Mrs. D. B. Bubar winning high score and Mrs. L. E. Wharton and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Qulnc. MELROSE GRANGE HAS' ! INTERESTING MEETING . ON TUESDAY EVENING Melrose grange held an inter esting meeting Tuesday evening with the overseer, T. B. Busen-i bark, presiding. Twenty-four members were present. It was voted to hold two meetings every month. The next meeting will be open o the public and will be held the evening of January 18 at the hall. All residents of the community are cordially invited. A social venlng will be held and E. A. Brltton, Douelas county 4-H club leader, will show motion pictures. Following the meeting, dell clous refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kruse and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Matthews. FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN GILLIAMS AND PINKERTONS ON SATURDAY EVENING A farewell party was given in the South Deer Creek grange hall last Saturday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gilliam and Mr. and Mrs. James Plnkerton. Attendance was not large because of the fact that electricity wag off the wires from 6 to 10 p. m., owing to trees falling over the wires, but those present say a pleasant time was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam have purchased another ranch In the Dlllard sec tion while Mr. and Mrs. Pinker ton have moved to Roseburg. Installed as Honored Queen ; Miss Phyllis Hinsdale, daugh ter, of Mr. and Mrs. George Hins dale of Roseburg, was installed at a very beautiful ceremony as the new Honored Queen of Rose burg' bethel No. 8 of Job's Daugh ters Tuesday evening at the Ma sonic temple. Plans for the wedding are indefinite. Miss Fett Is now a petty offi cer, third class In the Waves and is stationed in Washington, D. C. STANTON MARRY ON WEDNESDAY At a very impressive and quiet ceremony, Malinda Jane Oderkirk and Charles G. Stanton, both prominent Roseburg residents, were married Wednesday even ing, January 5, in the study at the home of Rev. Len B. Fishback on South Kane street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Fishback, pastor of the First Christian church of Roseburg, at eight o'clock in the presence of the bride s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Sninrlcrs, and their small son, Melvln; the bridegroom's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles-V. Stanton, and Mrs. Len B. Fishback. The bride wore a very attrac tive tailored rose-colored after noon dress and her corsage was of gardenias. Mr. and Mrs. Stanton have many friends In Roseburg and are both very active in work of the First Christian church of this city. Mr. Stanton is a retired Southern Pacific engineer. They are at home to their friends at 702 South Pine street. EXECUTIVE LUNCHEON HELD BY WOMAN'S CLUB AT HOTEL ROSE TUESDAY The January executive lunch eon of the Roseburg Woman's club was held at 12 o'clock Tues day at the Hotel Rose.
