DELTA KAPPA GAMMA DINNER MEETING HELD Mrs. Lula Gorrell, Miss Verna Caruthers, Miss Amanda Ander son and Miss Ina Farnsworfh at tended a dinner meeting of the Delta-Kappa Gamma, national educational honorary for wom en, in Eugene Saturday. The meeting was held at the home of its president, Miss Hazel Fish wood, supervisor of art in the Eugene city schools. Initiation was held and a very impressive talk was given by Mrs. Victor. P. A, 17th battalion, Oregon State Guard, to meet at the Rosebure armory, Wednesday, was issued today by Lieutenant John L. Saunders, who is temporarily in command of the company follow ing the tragic death of Captain S. C. Dunn, who was drowned Friday in the North Umpqua riv er at Winchester. Lieutenant Saunders calls attention to the fact that the company meeting is to be held Wednesday instead of the usual Thursday drill pe riod and attendance of all mem bers at 8 p. m. is urged Local News Attend To Buslnsss Mr. and! Absent From High School Mrs. Adeline Fields, Instructor at the Roseburg senior high school, was absent from her classes Monday. Miss Helen Casey is substituting for her. ' P.-T. A. To Meet The Douglas County P.-T. A. will meet Wed nesday at 2 o'clock at the Junior high school. Representatives from all P.-T. A.'s in the county are re quested to attend. Returns To Duty Dale Wood ruff, seaman first class, U. S. navy reserve, left Sunday for his ship, following a four-day leave in Roseburg visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Woodruff. Visits In Roseburg Pvt. Gor don Gerretsen, stationed at Camp Adair, Oregon, spent the week end visiting in Roseburg with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gerretsen, on Blakeley street.-. Spend Day In Eugene Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McDermott and son, Robert, of Roseburg spent Friday In Eugene on business. Mr. McDermott is the distributor for the Associated Oil company for this territory. Visitors From Cottage Qrove Mr and Mrs. Carl Sudrow of Cottage Grove visited in Rose burg over the weekend at the home of Mrs. Anna Lewis on North Pine street. Christmas Banquet Planned The P. N. G. club has announced its annual Christmas banquet for Thursday night at 6:30 o' clock at the I. O. O. F. hall. Members and their invited guests have been asked to attend. Circle No. 2 To Meet Circle No. 2 of the St. Joseph's Altar society will meet tonight at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. E. F. Green on Hamilton avenue and Watson streets. Miss Helen Casey and Miss Annaloris Ward will be in charge of the program. Baok From California Mrs. Frank Samson has returned to her home on Deer creek, follow ing two weeks in Southern Cali fornia visiting her sons. The Samson family formerly resided in California and Mrs. Samson reported she is glad to be back in Roseburg again. I Women's Council To Meet An all-day meeting of the Women's Council of the First Christian church has been announced for Friday, December 17, beginning at 10:30 a. m. at the home of Mrs. Len B. Fish back at 143 South Kane street. Members are asked to bring paper-bag lunches. Arrives In Roseburg Mrs. Robert Harris, nee Patricia Turn er, has arrived in Roseburg from Blackstone, Virginia, for the du ration. She has been wilh her husband, Captain Robert Harris, son of Mayor and Mrs. W. F. Harris of Roseburg. Mrs. Harris is a daughter of Mrs. Ethel Turn er of Roseburg. Will Attend Meetlni Mrs. Leona Bryant of Coqullle, past state president of the Business and Professional Women's club, will arrive in Roseburg today to attend the Christmas banqurt and party of the B. P. W. C. to he held tonight at the Umpqua hotel. While In Roseburg, she will be the guest of Mrs. L. L. Spencer. Leave For Portland Lt. Edwin C. Baquet, who has been spend Ing a part of his furlough In Roseburg visiting ; his mother, Mrs. Ruth Baquet, and other relatives as well as friends, has left for Portland to spend the remainder of his time before re porting to duty. Arrives From Grants Pass Mrs. Floyd Althatis (Hazel Hud nell) arrived in Roseburg from Grants Pass this morning to visit until Thursday ' with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hudnell, at the Hotel Douglas. Mr. Hudnell underwent a tonsi lectomy this morning. Bible Class To Hold Party The Mid-Week Bible class of St. Paul's Lutheran church will hold its annual Christmas party with the exchange of inexpensive gifts Thursday at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Roy Hebard at 731 South Pine street, with Mrs. A. Coenenberg and Miss Freida Schaeffer joint hostesses. Mem bers and friends are invited. Club Party Announced The Calapooia club has announced its annual Christmas party for Wed nesday at the clubhouse. A pot luck noon dinner will be held and members will exchange gifts and pack a box to be sent to the Childrens Farm home at " Cor vallis. Members are asked to bring giftfor the box. Mrs. L. D. Haines, president of the club, will be in charge of themeetlng 4 Persons Hurt in Traffic Accidents Four persons suffered injuries in traffic accidents Sunday ac cording to reports to police de partments. Sylvester Wolf, a resi dent of Edenbower, was in Mercy hospital, where he was belnr treated for Injuries suffered when he was struck by a car driven by Melvin Coons. Wolf was a pedestrian. The extent of hfB injuries has not been fully de termined today, it was reported. J. D. Osborn, Southern Pacific company clerk and telegraph op perator, sftffered fractured ribs and severe bruises Sunday in a collision which also resulted in minor injuries to Chub W. Morn Ingstar, Jr., and Virginia Morn Ingstar. Although both cars were badly damaged In the wreck, which occured on the turn in front of the Windmill store .and tavern in West Roseburg, the oc cupants of the two machines wre not seriously hurt. Osborn was able to return to his work at the S. P. depot today. Meat Plants Take-Over Is Grange Vote Question EUGENE, Ore., Dec. 13 (AP) Oregon granges will vote on a recommendation of the agricul ture committee of the state grange that the federal govern ment take over meat packing plants not operating at capacity. The proposal, made at a state grange conference In Eugene Saturday, was referred to the lo cals together with suggestions for ceilings on certain types of farm labor. No action was taken on a pro posal for the grange to establish a cooperative packing plant In Portland. Allen, 85, life-long resident of Douglas county, died early, today at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and 1 Mrs. Guv Cordon, following a long Illness. She was horn near Wilbur, March 27, 1858, the daughter of Hardin and Iva Jane Davis, pio neer settlers In Douglas county- She was married at Prineville, i Ore., in 1838 to Alfred L. Allen, who riled a number of years ago. She had made her home in Rose burg for the past 25 years. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs, Guv Cordon, and three grandchildren, together with the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Charles Mohr, Roseburg; Mrs. Fred Schaeffer. Amity, Ore.; James B. Davis, Portland; Ed Davis, Crescent City, Calif., and Henry Davis, Portland. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Rose burg Undertaking comnany chap el, with interment following in the Wilbur cemetery. Sgt. George W. Harris On Furlough at Glendale. Assigned to the air transport command as an aerial engineer, Sergeant George W. Harris is en loving a brief furlough at his home In Glendale. He has been i in active service for the' past year and recqntly was furloughed home from North Africa.
