THREE Society and Clubs BY LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER EASTERN STAR POTLUCK SUPPER IS LARGE AFFAIR THURSDAY Roseburg Chapter of Eastern Star members entertained their husbands and visiting members and their husbands at a very de lightful six-thirty o'clock potluck slipper Thursday night at the Ma sonic temple. The beautifully appointed ta bles were decorated by Mrs. R. L. Whipple. Mrs. T. B. Virden and Mrs. C. E. Wimberly were general chairmen and were as sisted by Mrs. Harry S. Black, Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Bubar, Mrs. C. B. Calkins, Mrs. Bruce El liott, Mrs. H. iH. Hannon, Mrs. George Kohlhagen, Mrs. Morgan I.awson, Mrs. R. L. Whipple and Judge C. E. Wimberly. A large number enjoyed the occasion and following the sup per cards and games were In play. GREEN STUDY CLUB HAS POTLUCK LUNCHEON MEETING The Green P.-T. A. Study club held a lovely noon potluck lunch eon at the home of Mrs. Ed Coo per Tuesday. Covers were placed for: Mrs. John Hess, Mrs. Rena Lewis, Mrs. Lucy Meyers, Mrs. Josephine Parkhurst, Mrs. Bette Holm, Mrs. Enore Fisher, Mrs. Brsse Lounsbury and the hostess es, Mrs. Cooper and daughter, Miss Bea. The afternoon was spent in quilting on a beautifully pieced quilt for Miss Bea, and sewing for the P.-T. A. bazaar to be held in the near future. The next meeting will be No vember 16 at the home of Mrs. Besse Lounsbury. MRS. W. H. RICHARDSON ENTERTAINS AT CHARMING LUNCHEON ON THURSDAY Mrs. W. H. Richardson very graciously entertained at a charming one o'clock luncheon at her beautiful home on South Main street Thursday. Roses formed a very pretty motif for the attractively appointed serv ing table. Covers were placed for: Mrs. G. V. Wimberly, Miss Helen Casey, Mrs. Frederick J. Porter and the hostess, Mrs. Richardson. The guests and Mrs. Richard son compose the year's program committee for the Roseburg Woman's club and plans were made for future meetings of the club, of which Mrs. Wimberly is the president. Visiting was en joyed during the pleasant social hour. Weekly Bowling Chatter Mr. Chas. Miller of the Youngs Bay Lumber Co. had high score with an even 600 Monday night. He was bowling on Sandy's Mon arch team. Bob Llndsley is still leading the Junior Boys league with a 164 average. Edgar Hiney is running him a close second with 162. The lower average boys are showing much Improvement and are rais ing their averages each week. The new pins we had up Wed nesday night resulted generally In lower than usual scores but some still raised their averages a little. Al Merritt had high in dividual average with 577. Glenn Wellman had high game, 243. Mrs. Ferguson in the women's league had high game with 185. VI Blessing had high series, 477. The doubles tournament bowl ers are doing the better bowling. Georgia Moore and Rachael Lehr bach led this week with 1129. Brenner and Beck were second with 1124. H. Rice and K. Lau ranee were in third place with 1109. Five couples were elimin ated, leaving eight couples to compete for the prizes to be awarded the top four. We wish to announce we are opening at 3 p. m. week days now. If women wanting to learn to bowl will come early, Mr, Baughman will be there to in struct them. It Is easier to learn when the alleys are not too busv. Adv. R. Fisher as hostess. But ton chrysanthemums were ar ranged about the rooms. A lovely shower gift was presented to Mrs. Ruth Beecroft and the social hours were spent in playing bin go with Mrs. Southworth, a guest, winning the prizes. At the tea hour lovely refresh ments were served to : Mrs. Southworth, Mrs. Kronke, guests, and Mrs. Marjorie Casebeer, Mrs. V. Chilson, Mrs. W. O. Patterson, Mrs. Clara Steiwig, Mrs. E. E. The club will meet Armistice afternoon at the Casebeer home at 407J Ella street with Mrs. Fisher acting as hostess for, her niece, Mrs. Edna May Jones. ART AND EMBROIDERY CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY The Roseburg Art and Embroi dery club held a delightful meet ing and auction sale program Wednesday afiernoon . at the home of Mrs. Alfred Neal. At the tea hour, a beautiful birthday cake lighted by 83 candles, was cut in honor of the anniversary of Mrs. Alice Rhoads, . '. Those enjoying the occasion honoring Mrs. Rhoads were: Mrs. J. H. Miller, Mrs. N. Lehr- bach and two children, Marsha and Nickey, and Mrs. Edwin Short and daughter, Loretta guests, and Mrs. Glenn Cox, Mrs. William Bailey, Mrs. F. J. Cor nell, Mrs. C. W. Lawson, Mrs. Lu cie Ingles, Mrs. George Cluck, Mrs. H. F. Snyder and the host ess, Mrs. Neal. Lovely refresh ments were served by the host ess. MOTOR CORPS PARTY IS CHARMING AFFAIR AT LAUBACH HOME The Motor Corps was enter tained at a very charming party given by Miss Ila Laubach at her attractive home on South Ste phens street Tuesday evening. Colorful fall flowers were ar ranged about the rooms. Mrs. L. L. Wimberly, captain presided over a short business meeting, after which bridge and Chinese checkers were enjoyed. High scores for bridge were won by Mrs. Guy Cordon and Mrs. Wimberly. Later in the evening Miss Lau bach served delicious refresh ments to: Mrs. L. L. Wimberly, Mrs. Clair K. MRS ALICE'RHOADS HONORED AT BIRTHDAY PARTY ON MONDAY Mrs. H. F. Snyder entertained at a charming party at her hume on Cobb street Monday in com pliment to her mother, Mrs. Alice Rhoads on her eighty-third birth day anniversary. TWELVE AND WON CLUB HAS POTLUCK LUNCHEON MEETING ON TUESDAY The Twelve and Won club met al a delightful potluck luncheon Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Fred Ritzman. Beautiful bou quets of fall flowers were arrang ed about the rooms. After the luncheon, Po-Keno was In play with Mrs. Mary Princen winning the high prize and Mrs. Richard son winning the second prize. Those present were: Mrs. Rich ardson, Mrs. Story, Mrs. Jane Moran, Mrs. Princen and Mrs. Rtizman, hostess. Pictures were taken of the guests by Mr. Taylor., JOB'S DAUGHTERS HAS INITIATION MEETING TUESDAY Roseburg Bethel of Job's Daughters held initiation Tues day evening, at which time nine girls became new members of the order. The meeting was preceded by a charming dessert-supper served in the banquet room of the Ma sonic temple. The drill team, un der the direction of Mrs. Micelli, guardian, performed a very beau tiful flower drill and the flowers were presented to Mrs. E. A. Brit ton, inspecting officer of the eve-ing- Special music was provided by Marilyn Preston and Nancy Mc Clinlock. B. P. W. C. TO HOLD ANNUAL BIRTHDAY PARTY MONDAY NIGHT The annual birthday party of the B. P. W. C. will he a large affair of Monday night at 8 o'clock at the clubhouse with Ag nes Pitchford, Martha Perry and Minnie Clark in charge. The club was organized in 1925 by Miss Rosa E. Parrott, who served as the first club presi dent. A special invitation has been extended to all past presi dents and all former club mem bers to enjoy the occasion as spe cial guests. MRS. LENOIR GRUBBE ENTERTAINS AT DINNER HONORING HER MOTHER , Mrs. LeNoir Grubbe entertain ed at a lovely birthday dinner at her home this week honoring her mother, Mrs. Carl Brauninger, on her birthday anniversary. Lovely gifts were presented and covers were placed for the guest of honor and: Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Blake and daughter, Miss Louise: Stella Litton, Berniece Conn, Freeda Brauninger and Mr. and Mrs. Grubbe and daugh ter, Ollie. American Legion 1 Auxiliary Activities (By MRS. CLAUDE BAKER 1 Armistice day, Thursday, Nov. 11, the Legion and its auxiliary will hold a potluck dinner at 12 at the Knights of Pythias hall. The women are to bring a cover ed dish which can serve ten per sons and their own sandwiches. The dish may be a salad, a hot dish or pies: however the Legion plan to furnish coffee, cream, su gar and doughnuts. Mr. George Trapolis, Legion chairman says they will also have some other food perhaps baked beans. Follwing the dinner the men at least, will attend the ball game in the afternoon and Mr. Trapolis states they may get together again in the evening. All Legion naires, their wives and any eligi ble members are urged to be present. The Legion and auxiliary has planned to hold their regular meetings in the I. O. O. F. hall ; until such a time as they have ; their own home. Plans to remod i el the upper floor of the building .sold to the bank have been aban 1 doned. 'INVITES PUBLIC TO ANNUAL EXHIBIT ON TUESDAY The largest even't of the com ing week will be the third annual exhibit, bazaar and tea of the W. C. T. U. to be held from 1:30 to C o'clock next Tuesday, Novem ber 9, at the Methodist church basement. The public is cordially 1 invited to atlend and the usual I benefit charge will be made. Hatfield ex hibiting the hooked and crochet ed rugs and also in charge of a beautiful display of rugs made by the veterans at the facility, Mrs. A. J. Slarmer and Mrs. ON to Olson will be in charge of-the quilt display and Mrs. W. H. Car ter and Mrs. Mable P. Taylor will have charge of decorations with Mrs. L. Kohlhagen, Sr., Mrs. J. II. Wolford. Mrs. B. B. Irving and Miss Edith Staggs serving on the tea committee. The church will no open at nine a. m. for the purpose of re ceiving ,any article for display, which owners may care to bring to .the church for exhibiting. The bazaar promises to be of unusual interest, as a large as sortment of exceptionally fine aprons, tea towels, pot holders, satchels and some crocheted work will be on sale. Business women are being especially urg ed to attend the affair between five and six o'clock as the exhib ii Is being held open during that hour for their convenience. JUNIOR DIVISION OF CHRISTIAN CHURCH HAS FIRST MEETING RECENTLY The first meeting of the Junior division of the First Christian church was held at the beautiful home of Mrs. Len B. Flshhack on South Kane street Wednesday evening with the following offi cers being elected: president, Mrs. Dan-ell Anderson; vice-president, Mrs. Verio Miller; secre tary, Mrs. R. M. Church; treasur er, Mrs. Paul McGowan, and de votional chairman, Mrs. Paul Sh.inklin. This Junior division was or ganized for the women of the church, who find it easier to at tend evening meetings than those held in the afternoon. Red Cross I sewing, a nursery during church i services and the history of the Christian church have beenhos en as projects of the year. Lovely refreshments were serv ed by Mrs. Fishback, assisted by Mis. Unrath and Mrs. Perry. Those enjoyjng the meeting with Mrs. Fishback included: Mrs. Paul Shanklin, Mrs. O. J. Fish back at 143 Kane street October 23. Rev. Mr. Fishback, pastor of the First Christian church of Roseburg, performed the cere mony. Henry Easton. father of the bride, and Miss Minnie Eas ton. an aunt of the bride, were witnesses. The bride wore a very lovelv two-piece moss green ensemble with beige trimming and brown accessories. Her corsage was of Gardenias and rosebuds. Follow ing the ceremony, the couolcleft for Curriers Village and Seavers lodge at the coast, after which Private Selles returned to duty at his station in Eugene and Mrs. Selles returned to Roseburg. The bride attended grade school in Portland and high school at Independence, Ore., and since residing In Roseburg, has assisted her father in the onerat- ing of Easton's Grocery on North Jackson street. The bridegroom attended school in Richmond, Calif., and was later associated in business with his father at Lodi, before entering the U. S. army. MRS ERSKINS HOSTESS TO H. E. O. CLEVELAND SCHOOL HAS DELIGHTFUL HALLOWEEN PARTY Friday evening the Cleveland school held a hilarious Hallow een party under the direction of the teacher, Mrs. Carol W. Sting ley. Among Ihe bats, black cats Jackolanterns was Hlrohito in a large edition. His next appear ance is to be in a well-baked pie. After apple bobbing and some other lively games, refreshments of sandwiches, cookies, pumpkin pie and coffee were sold togeth er with numerous handmade ar ticles for gifts and an exciting dart game, totaled S27 for the use ol the school. Pnrents and pupils crowded the school room for the occasion. HALLOWEEN PARTY IS HELD BY P.-T. A. LOOK1NGGLASS. Nov. 2-The Looklngglass P.-T. A. held a de lightful Halloween party and re ception at the schoolhouse Fri day evening honoring the teach ers of the school and the new families in the community. Ghosts and goblins added to the enjoyment of the social hour of games, after which refresh ments were served.
