THREE 1 X u Society and Clubs BY LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER PLEDCE SORORITIES AT UNIVERSITY OF OREGON UNIVERSITY OF OREGON, Kugeno, October 11 (special) Among tho 222 women who pledged dining fall rushing were Marie Medley from Oakland, UMh Hansen and Jeanne Gilke Ron of Roseburg. Miss Medley pledged Alpha' Gamma Delia; Miss Hansen, Alpha Delta Pi; Miss Jeanne Gilkeson, Delia Del ta Delta. More women signed up for rushing this year than last, but there was an 11 per cent drop in pledging this year. It is expected that by the end of the term more women will have pledged than last year as Panhellenie, govern ing body of fraternal organiza tions announced tho decision to hold open rushing all term in ad dition to the formal rush periods at Hie beginning of winter and spring terms. Miss Hansen is the daughter . of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Hansen and Miss Gilkeson Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gilke son of this city. W. C. T. U. TO HOLD MEETING WEDNESDAY Tho Roseburg W. C. T. Felt, 1249 Umpqua Ave., Rose burg, lias been graduated from the Fort Crook, Neb., ordnance automotive school. The course covered all phases of automotive repair and maintenance for all types of army vehicles. Robert E. Grensky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grensky, Glendale, and Phillip A. Watkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Watkins, Cairns Valley, have arrived at Farrarjr.t, Idaho, to begin recruit training al the U. S. naval training sta tion there. Charles F. (API -Civilians hailed today the government announcement Ihat I heir butter supply will take a slmrn upturn soon. The military and other govern ment purchasing agencies have arranged lo stay out of the butter market until next March,, the War Food administration an nounced, to permit the available simply to go into civilian chan nels. The WFS said the action should increase the civilian butter sup ply from 10 lo 30 per cent. The ration point value, Ifi points per pound, remains unchanged. Shortages of butter have de veloped In many areas, particu larly In regions distant from Hie ma lor producing centers. (AP) Ta coma police were seeking today the slayer or slayers of Mrs. Nel lie McDonald, 77, old age pension er and fortune teller, whose bat tered body was found yesterday morning in a vacant lot near her modest home. Detective P. O. Brown said no lice also sought relatives of the woman, who had lived alone for years. These Included an estrang ed husband, believed to be living in Seattle ,and a son, Carl, be lieved to lie In Long Beach, Calif. From the position in which the body was found ,it was believed the elderly woman may have been the victim of attempted rape, Brown said, and several sol diers and sailors .who were ar rested under circumstances which made them remotely possible sus pects in the case, were being questioned today.
