Undergoes Operation Morris Roach, son of Dr. and Mrs. Mor ris H. Roach, underwent an ap pendectomy this morning at Mer cy hospital. Reported Doing Nicely Robert li ving, Jr., son of Major and Mrs. R. L. Irving, is reported to be do ing nicely at Mercy hospital where he underwent an appen dectomy last Wednesday. Reported III Dr. C. H. Bailey is reported to be ill at his home on South Deer creek. He was formerly editor of the Oregon Grange Bulletin, at which time bis headquarters were in the iNewsReview office. Spend Weekend at Camp Mr. and Mrs .G. V. Wimberly, of this city, took their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Donald Wimberly, of San Francisco, to their summer camp on the North Umpqua for the weekend. K.i Sykes home on North Pine street, following the weekend visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stumbo, in Ump ua park. Expected Here Mrs. Leslie Counts, of Seattle, is expected to arrive here toduy to visit at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Me Clintock, and family, on Hamil ton avenue. Return to Glendale Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Harvey left last even ing for their home in Glendale, following the weekend here visit ing their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Henninger, and family, in Laurelwood. Vacationing Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dielz, of Portland, are spending their vacation at Winchester. Mr. Dielz is an employee of the Shell Oil company. They are well known in this city, having visit ed here frequently at the S. J. Cooper home in Laurelwood. Will Go to Summer Camp Dr. and Mrs. G. C. Finlay, of this city, left today for their summer place on the North Umpqua, where the J former will spend the next month vacationing upon the advice of his physician. Dr. Finlay expects to be back in his dental office in the Medical Arts building Septem ber 1. Visit at Churchill Home Mr. and Mrs. George Churchill and two sons, Tommy und Frank, of Waldport, spent the weekend here visiting Mr. Churchill's mother, Mrs. F. H. Churchill, on South Kane street and with his sister, Mrs. Paul Trueblood (Helen Churchill I and her family, who are here vacationing from Stock ton. Calif. Marine Corps, and his aide, Captain Charles Paddock, former sprint champion known as the "world's fastest hu man," were killed in a plane crash near Sitka, Alaska, July 21. Four other persons, whose Identities were withheld pending notification of families, were also killed when the Navy plane crashed in flames. Knight and son, Philip, and twin daughters, Jeanne and Joanne, left Sunday for their home in Portland, fol lowing a vacation of several weeks in this city with relatives and friends. Mrs. Knight (Lota Hatfield) is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Hatfield and Attorney Knight is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Knight. Move To Roseburg The Roy Fenton and Meredith Day fami lies of Seaside have moved to Roseburg and are looking for permanent residences to make their homes. Mr. Fenton is night foreman for the North Umpqua Timber company and has been employed by the company for the last 16 years. Mr. Day is also an employee of the same company. Mr. Fenton and Deputy Sheriff R. G. Baker of this city, served in the 19th air squadron in France for 18 months together during the first world war. Brings Wife And Son Here Howard Zimmer returned to his home at Sherwood, Ore., last night, following a trip here to bring his wife, formerly Elza Kohlhagen, and baby son, George Frederick, who will spend a week vacationing here and visiting Mrs. Zimmnr's parents, Mr. and Mrs-. L. Kohlhagen, Sr., on Mili tary street. Visiting Parents Mrs. Howard Thompson (Myrtle L. McGhehey) has returned to Glengary to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. McGhehef, Sr., following a stay in Salem with her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson, and in McMinnville visiting Mr. and Mrs. D. C. McGhehey and with Mr. and Mrs. C. H. McGhehey. Her husband is at present station ed at Sioux City, Iowa, army air base. Lena Turner Is Mother; 2nd Transfusion Due HOLLYWOOD, July 2G (AP) The condition of Actress Lima Turner's baby was described to day as "fairly good," bill Dr. Madeline Fallon, Children's hos pital pcdlatricain, said a second blood transfusion would be ad ministered shortly. The seven-pound, 14-ounce daughter was born yesterday at Hollywood Presbyterian hospital, and physicians said she was suf fering from anemia. Miss Turner's husband, Ste phen Crane, former broker and now an army private at nearby Ft. MacArthur, and her mother, Mrs. Mildred Turner, were at the hospital. Farmer Sent to Prison For Killing Farm Hand SUSANVILLE, Calif., July 2G (AP) John Tanner, 57, Lassen county farmer, will be taken to San Quentin prison Wednesday to begin serving a prison sentence for the slaying of B. D. Driver, a larm hand, July 13. He pleaded guilty to a man slaughter charge Saturday and was sentenced by Superior Judge Curler. Tanner, father of three daugh ters, surrender to Sheriff John son the day of the fatal shooting. Sanders, Shot, Reported Recovering Sergeant George Sanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sanders of Roseburg, recently reported as having been wounded In combat, is suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper back, accord ing to notification received from the war department by his pa rents. He was wounded July 2 and is reported recovering from his Injuries in a South Pacific base hospital. Camp Fire Girls' Summer Camp To Open August 8 The !!U3 Camp Fire Girls sum mer camp will open August 8 for one wee;t at the Wolf Creek ISoy Scout camp, according to an an nouncement made this morning by the Camp Fire council. Miss Athalie Taylor, who Is the only accredited Red Cross swimming Instructor in the county, has been secured as camp director. Miss rredricka Hamilton and Miss Carolyn Allen, both of whom have senior and junior life saving certificates, will assist Miss Taylor with swimming in struction. Miss Ethel Van Voorst will also assist the director. Camp craft and hand crafts will be taught in addition to the swim ming. Mrs. Donn Radabaugh. Roseburg trained nurse, will he at the camp the entire week. All Camp Fire girls in the counly, also former Campfire girls and prosM'ctlve members, ere eligible to attend this year's camp. Young Chicken Output Sets All-Time Record ' WASHINGTON, July 26,-(AP) The Agriculture department said today young chickens raised on farms in 1943 reached an all time peak estimated at 925,625,000 birds. This was 16 per cent larger than the previous high of last year and 36 per cent above the 1932-41 average. The increase in chickens raised this year, the department said, was caused by the favorable rela tionship between chicken and egg prices and feed prices.
