During the summer months Miss Rhoden will be employed at Lowell's store. f Working at Abstract Office 4 Miss Patricia McClintock, stu l?ftknt at University of Oregon, who is home for the summer visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. McClintock, is doing temporary work at the Commer cial Abstract office. Visiting Here Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Jones and daughter, Betty, of Portland, are spending the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lockwood on east Douglas street. Mr. and Mrs. Jones plan to continue on to southern Oregon, while Miss Bet ty will remain in this city. Returns To Work Glenn Mey ers yesterday returned to his work in the shipyards at Brem erton, Wash., after being called to this city by the death of his aunt, Miss Maybelle Muirhead, for whom services were held Sunday. Glenn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Meyers of Roseburg. Will Spend Summer in Mc Minnville R. R. Brand, princi pal of the junior high school, and Mrs. Brand and their son and daughter, Donald and Barbara, plan to leave Thursday for Mc Minnville to spend the summer. Mr. Brand has accepted work as lay reader for St. Barnabas Epis copal church in that city and will assist with the parish work dur ing the summer months. Out of Hospital According to word received here, Dr. A. C. Seely, Roseburg physician, has been discharged from the Hos pital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles, following a major operation, and is now convales cing satisfactorily at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Major and Mrs. Hall Seely, Sr., at Balboa Island, Calif. Visiting Sister Lieutenant D. B. Finch is spending a few days here on leave from Fort Lewis, Wash., visiting his brother-in-law and sister. Sheriff and Mrs. Bud Carter. Lieutenant Finch has been in active service for the past two years, having been call ed to active duty with the Idaho National guard. He is now on duty with the With division. Hike to Twin Lakes Jim Os borne and Gordon Gerretson left yesterday for a hike Into Twin Lakes, where they will spend the next week camping and fishing. Visit Over Weekend -Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Clement and baby daughter of Portland spent the weekend in this city visiting at the home of Mrs. Clement's par cms, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mc Eachern, on Ella street. Move Back to Roseburg -Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Byrd and daughter, Yvonne Kincart, have moved back to Roseburg to re side, following several months absence. Mr. Byrd was stationed at Camp Phillips, Kan. Before entering the service, Mr. Byrd was a fireman lor the Southern Pacific company, which now has obtained his release to return here to work. Before returning to the west coast, the family stopped in Montour, Iowa, for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Hall, former resi dents of Douglas county. Two Offenders Fined In Justice Court Here Justice of the Peace Thomas Hartfield today reported a fine of $10 paid in the local court by T. F. Waulding following a plea of guilty to a charge of being drunk on a public highway. A fine of S10 was paid by Clyde E. McKimm, charged witli oper ating a motor truck without proper clearance lights. Other produce unchanged. Funeral Held For J. F. Lamoreaux, Spanish War Vet Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Monday at the Fair Oaks cemetery for John Frank La- j moreaux, who died suddenly at his home in Riverside, June 4. ; Born June 13, 1869, in Plain-, field, Mich., he spent the early . part of his life In and near Grand Rapids, Mich., joining the j U. S. army at the age of 25 years and serving four years, during which time he attained the rank ; ol sergeant. He then enlisted in i the navy for a term of three years, and served during the Spanish-American war. He was; on the Flagship Olympia with 1 Admiral Dewey during the bat-1 tic of Manila bay. He was hon orably discharged May 12, 1899. ! He was married at Travis j City, Mich., Dec. 24, 1900, to Miss lihoda J. Ream, moving to Can-' ada in 1900, remaining there for S 11 years. Mr. and Mrs. Lamore- j aux and son, Edward, moved in ! 1920 to the Sutherlin valley and; in 1937 went to Oakland to re-, side for two years. They had j been residents of the Riverside . community for the past three years. J Mr. Lamoreaux was a member ' of George Slarmer camp, United Spanish War veterans and of the Congressional Medalmen's association and of the Church of Christ at Oakland.
