Miss Mealy is reported to be an unusually interesting speaker and the health assoeia tion is most anxious that a large number henr her talk. I DOUGLAS COUNTY CHRISTIAN CONVENTION TO BE HELD AUG. 3 The Douglas County Christian convention will be held at the Roseburg Christian church Mon day, August 3. Naomi Moore will act as pianist with Charles H. Richards, of Cincinnati, Ohio, as song leader, and Mrs. Len B. Fishback as worship leader. The theme of the convention will be "The True Gospel." The program for the day In cludes: opening of convention at 10 a. m. with song and worship, followed by a talk on "Life" by Arthur Thorpe; special music by Drain: song: talk on "Death" by Ingowald Nelson; quiz on the Pentateuch by Mr. Church, and noon basket dinner. The afternoon's session will open with a song and worship service at 1:30 o'clock; followed by a talk on "Resurrection" by James Bartholomew; special mu sic by Elkton; song, and ':'The Training of Children In the Bible School," by Mrs. Charles H. Rich ards. The evening potluck supper will be held at five-forty-five o' clock and the evening service will open at 6:45 o'clock, followed , by a business meeting and the presenting of church reports. The community sing will be led by Charles H. Richards, followed by offertory, special number and talk on "Religious Education and Evangelism" by B. Ross Evans. Mr. and Mrs. Richards will have an exhibit of Sunday school' supplies from the Christian Stan dard Publishing company. H. E. O. CLUB TO MEET ON THURSDAY The H. E. O. club, which was to have met today, will meet Thursday at a one-thirty o'clock luncheon at the home of Mrs. Dave Meyers on Harvard street. All members arc cordially invited to be present. War Vet Dies; Body to Portland The body of Frank Charles Lucker, 55, World war veteran, a resident of Portland, was for warded today to Portland by the Douglas Funeral home. Mr. Luck er, who was born in Michigan, March 10, 1887, died Monday at the veterans hospital here. A widow, Mrs. Nellie Lucker, of Portland, survives. VITAL STATISTICS 1 Enjoy Trip Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dillard are back at their home on South Jackson street, following a four-day trip to Tlmberline lodge and to Portland. Back From Corvallii N. J. Visiting at Lindbloom Home Mr. and Mrs. Walter Etlund and three children, of San Jose, Calif., have arrived at Dixonville to visit Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lindbloom. Mrs. Lindbloom is an aunt of Mrs. Etlund. Mr. Etlund is em ployed by the Continental Can nery company or ban Jose. Here From Medford Brem Sharcher, secretary-manager of the Medford Production Credit association, arrived here from Medford Tuesday to remain over at the local office attending to business. He Is taking Eugene Fisher's place for two days, the latter being ill. Joan Fontaine, most recent winner of the Academy award for the most outstanding perform' ance of the year is now at Hunt's Indian theatre in "This Above All," co-starred with Tyrone Power. Mr. Wakefield was formerly with the Standard Oil company here and is now manager of the Hansen hardwaie store in Medford. Qualifying Rounds to Be Played The ladies of the Roseburg Country club will play the quali fying rounds of the annual sum mer handicap golf tournament Thursday morning at the club course. Potluck luncheon will be held at 12:30 and the contract bridge play will begin promptly at 1:30 o'clock. Visiting From Eugene Mr. and Mrs. Dean Morrow and children, Deanne and Melvln, of Eugene, are visiting at the Garden valley home of Mrs. Morrow s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Calhoun. Mrs. Nicholson was formerly employed at the Carr Variety store in this city and re cently went to Georgia, where she was married. Mr. Nicholson was formerly employed here at the Texaco station. Back From Idaho Mrs. J. M. Honeywell and daughter, Alene, have returned to their home at 305 East Oak street, following two weeks In Orofino, Idaho, visiting the former's parents, M and Mrs. Paul Rossman, and with her parents-in-law. Mr. and Mrs H. J. Honeywell. Her daughter, Joan Lee. who accompanied her to Orofino, will remain there to visit her grandparents until school starts, when she will re turn here. Return Here Mr. and Mrs. M. Church have returned to thel home here, following a business trip to Salem and later going to Portland and visiting friends and enjoying a trip to Tlmberline lodge.
