Around the County Canyonville CANYONVTlXE, MAY 23 The annual production of the Bible Academy commerical classes was given Thesday evening and quite a few attended to see the play, "Stevens, and Galloway". Othel musical selections by the orches tra and soloists added to the entertainment. At the close ol the program, Miss Johnson, commer cial Instructor, presented the classes with the award earned this year. ., . Mrs. Ella Beals and Miss Rose tta Hash went to Cave Junction Wednesday morning for a visit with relatives and friends. Miss Llla Dage went to Rose- burg Wednesday on business. Mrs. Lottie Weaver of Myrtle Creek visited with her nephew, Allc Dubee, Thursday. Mrs. Karl Hinther and son, Lacy, of Shasta, California, visit pd with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Dage, last of the week. Mrs. Hinter came for the graduating exercises. They left for their home Sunday morning. John Hamlin was in Grants Pass oh Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ramberg and daughter, Elinor, left for Seattle, Friday. They have lived here for eight years and recently sold their home here to Mr. A. T. Bell of Pennsylvania. Mrs. J. O. Gloss took her small grandson, Bobby Williams, to Redmond Sunday. Bobby will stay with his paternal grand parents this summer. The property where the Farmer family lives has been sold to O. M. Miller, who works at the local sawmill. Billy Hart and his grandfather, C. E. Harti left for Illinois, Mon day, morning. Phil Hart, father of Billy, came from Medford, where he is working, and took them to Eugene where they boarded a train. They will be gone for the summer months. George Norman and his broth er, Max, of Dunsmulr, California, have been visiting at the W. C. Pelham home for several days. Mrs. Delia Boyle will make her home With her daughter, Mrs. Grace Sawyer, at Elkton for the summer. Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Manning of Sutherlin, took them to Elkton. . Mrs. Will Stock had the mis fortune Thursday of getting her hand caught in the clothes wring er. Her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Duncan took her to Myrtle Creek for aid. Mrs. Carl Allison and son, Charles Puckett, are visiting with Mrs. Allison's mother, Mrs. Emma Wamsley, for a few days. They have been visiting Mr. Allison at Central Point for a couple of gf weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wilson of Cottage Grove, were in Canyon ville, for a short while Tuesday. Mr. Wilson Is a brother of Mrs. Ruth Hopkins. ( Mp. and Mrs. Bert Eshleman and family were in Roseburg Fri day on business. Miss Dora Burroughs was in Roseburg shopping Wednesday. Miss Burroughs works in the Airport cafe. Beryl Lof fer and her mother, Mrs. Jack Higgins, of Milo, went to Salem Sunday to visit with Mrs. Higgins' son, George, who is in the tuberculosis hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. Loson Winn were in Roseburg Saturday attending the funeral of a fritfnd. Mrs. Ira Poole left Saturday to attend the Rebekah Assembly in Portland. Her husband took her and returned Saturday night to report to his duties in Tiller Sun day. J. O. The salvage committee is urg-i ing all persons who have worn out rubber articles such as tires, hot water bottles, tennis shoes, etc., to bring them to the city hall when they come to town. The government has an urgent call for these objects. Mrs. Kathleen Knight and daughter, Ann left for their home in Eugene, Saturday. Mrs Knight taught in the high school here. Word has been recieved here that Carl Lilja has joined the navy and is now stationed at San Diego, California. . Rebekah Lodge met in regular session Tuesday evening. The fol lowing members were nominated: Peggy Pelham, Noble Grand; Manola Duncan vice grand; Ethel Mae Worthington, secre tary; Howard Green, treasurer. The property where Mr. and Mrs. Larry Womack are living has been sold to Mrs. Alice Nagcl. Mrs. Barbara Hopkins has been ordered to bed for a week or ten days by her physician because of high blood pressure. Her aaugnt er, Mrs. Susie Burnett of Oakland Is staying with her. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Worthington attended the Rebekah Assembly in Portland this week. Mrs. Jimmle Yokum of Myrtle Creek Is Visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ecklund for a few days this week. Mrs. A. C. Duncan gave a tur key dinner, Tuesday evening, honoring the teachers who have boarded with her this past year, invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ashcraft and Mrs. Marg aret Kimmel. Mrs. Duncan pres ented each teacher and the guests with small gifts. Mrs E. J. Rameey of San Bern ardino, California, is visiting with her husband. Mrs. Ray Hafdahl and small son, Mryon, of Roseburg, visited with Mrs. Haldahl's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Worthington, last week. Mrs. Wade Worthngton, Mrs. Howard Green, Mrs. Alex Worth ington went to Roseburg Friday. Mrs. Perllla Reibling and son. Ronald, and neice, Barbara Marshall, attended the graduating exercises. Olalla OLALLA, MAY 22. Mrs. Earl Ollivant left the first of the week for San Francisco, California, to visit her brother, Buford Steele. She went down with Mr. and Mrs. Eliga Ollivant of Look ingglass, who will visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Howard came down from Sliverton Thurs day night for a few days visit with Victor's mother, Mrs. Delia Howard, and other relatives in Tenmlle and Olalla. Mr. Henry Ireland and his neice, Maurine Bowe, were shop ping and transacting business in Roseburg Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Johnson have received word from their son, Vernon, who is in Australia. He says he likes it there very much Mrs. Richard Hook and daught er, Sally, spent the week end at the home of Mrs. Hook's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Carnall. The Hooks will spend the summer at Diamond Lake where Dick has charge of . the public . camp ground. . , Mrs. Hodges, Mrs. Junia Byron, Mrs. Maurice Bowe and Crete Carnall went to Tenmile Friday to serve on the election board at the Primary election. Those serving from Tenmlle were Jim Barnes, John MacCullough, Mrs. Rilla Hahn, John Cabot Mrs. Alta Howard and Mrs. L. M. Mc Caf fcry Miss Rhoda Arnold will sponsor a picnic at the picnic grounds near Muetzels mill Sunday May 24 to celebrate the close of school. In case of bad weather the affair will be held at the community hall in Olalla. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Heater and daughter, Sandra, called on friends and old neighbors here Sunday. The Heaters sold their place here to A. F. Gilklson, from Alaska, last fall but liking Douglas county too well to leave, have recently purchased a ranch in Happy Valley. Mrs. Theadore Tankersley re turned recently from several weeks Visit at the home of her mother, Mrs. Goodwin, near Los Angeles, California. , Word from Bud Ireland, who Is at Norfolk, Virginia, states that he had met a former neighbor, Frank Murray, there in the ser vice. Mr. and Mrs. Murray lived on the Newt Hannah place, which adjoins the Ireland place here, but moved to San Diego about five years ago. The Tri-Y girls also elected officers for the ensuing year at a meeting Monday. The two operettas, "Belling The Cat", and "Tom Sawyer" pre sented by the grade school at the gymnasium Friday night, and very ably directed by Mrs. Helmut Tilche, fifth and sixth grade teacher, met with great approval by a large and appreciative audi ence. Many hours of labor and practice had been given In learn ing the harts and decorating the stage. The leading characters were well chosen, playing their part very veil.
