Very attractive medals, trips and scholarships are provided for the most proficient teams through a national contest. To get started, local clubs should discuss the matter at their first meeting. Printed particulars are available, or will be soon, at the home demonstration agent's office. These list proper subjects to demonstrate, and suggest choosing one of most value to lo cal housewives. Other information on planning and conducting demonstrations may be obtained from the home demonstration agent, including the 1942 edition of a 36-page handbook widely used by 4-H leaders last year. It is illustrated with photos of winning teams while at work. It also contains sample outlines for a successful demonstration, and details on how to develop one, also "Ten Tips for Success" and much oth er helpful information approved by the Extension Service. New Figures on Oregon Specialty Crops Out Oregon's farm Income from specialty crops Is stearliiy Increas ing and at a considerably faster rate than is the state's total farm Income statistics, Just issued for miscellaneous specialty crops by tne u. s. o. extension service. : The latest bulletin gives detail ed statistics by counties on the production of hops, fiber flax, flax seed, peppermint, sugar beets, sugar beot seed, vegetable pea seed, and mustard seed for the years 1936 to 1940, and gives preliminary estimates on these crops for 1941. Preliminary information for 1941 indicates that the Oregon acreage of these miscellaneous specialty crops, with few excep tions, was larger than in 1940. with most of the crop sold at higher prices, the cash farm in come from these eight Items Is expected to be correspondingly higher than in 1940. Two Ships Torpedoed In Gulf of Mexico WASHINGTON, Miry 9 (AP) The navy announced today ihc torpedoing, in the gulf of Mexico, of two merchant vessels. It said one was a medium sized United States ship and the other a small vessel of Honduran registry.
