Gilchrist, teacher In the Cottage Grove filgh school, has been se lected high school principal for the ensuing year, replacing Clif ford Horner, who has resigned. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Chapman of Yoncalla spent the week-end here at the Orvllle French home. Keith Kruson visited friends here last Wednesday while on furlough from the U. S. navy. "Dad" Hall has returned here from Arizona where he spent the winter months. Wm. Brauninger Is quite ill at his home two miles south of town. Mrs. A. Coenenberg and Miss Freida Schafer are caring for him. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Watklns have purchased the Powell prop erty in the southeast part of town. They are making extensive Improvements on the house and will move there in the near fu ture. Mrs. Rodney Orange spent the week-end in Eugene with friends. The five-cent supper given at the Arts building last Friday eve ning by the grade school brought them $11.56. A program was pre sented by the pupils as follows: tap dance', Patsy Lou Wahl; songs, Gene Culver, Donald Rob ertson and John Musgrove; har monica solo, Karen Madscn; song, Mary Cooper and June Pot ter, and a piano solo, Mary Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. John Brown have sold their ranch east of town to some California people. They ex pect to move back to their prop erty at Tenmile. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Real dealt this last week with E: W. Mat hows for his property south of town and are moving there this week, when Mr. Moore, who re cently purchased the hotel build ing, takes possession. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Keith of Eugene, Mr.' and Mrs. George Keith of Taft, Oregon, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Keith. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Baxter and daughter ot Elkton were Sunday guests ot Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cooper. Bob Collins of California visit ed friends here Sunday while en route to Portland. Mr. and Mis. Clifford Morning star and daughter of Venctta visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. Mornlngstar's parents, Ml. and Mrs. Jesse Cooper. Dr. and Mrs. I. A. Dunlap had as their week-end guest Mrs. Honya Begdinor, granddaughter of Mrs. Dunlap, who was en route to San Diego where her husband is stationed. Mi's. Robert Hall returned to hor homo the latter part of last week, following several days in tho hospital in Roseburg where she received medical attention. More volunteers are needed for observation posts. Miss Elvira Wofford, who Is employed in the J. C. Penney store in Roseburg, visited here i Sunday. Robinson and Mrs. Ben Jacoby represented the local ob servation post in the army day parade in Roseburg on Monday afternoon, A large group of folk who have been manning the local observa tion post met on Tuesday even ing in the high school aditorium to discuss the plan for changing the post to a new location and to authorize the manning of the post by one family who will be paid for their services. A group of directors including, Harold Nich ols of Brockway, Doll Olllvant of Happy Valley, Mrs. Clarence Mil ler, Mrs. Roy Buell, Chas Green and Creed Cranflll were elected to serve with A. H. Marsh in handling the matter and making collections to finance tho arrange ment. Word has been received local ly ot the birth of a daughter, Nancy Gwen, to Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Smith, nee Grace Mont gomery, of Albany. Drain DRAIN, April 15. Don San ders, who was recently promoted to the rank of first sergeant with patrol wing four V. P. 41, Seat tle, Wash., was in Drain last week visiting his father, on a 48-hour leave ;of absence. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Traylor' and two little daughters of .Bel fair, Wash., came Friday for a visit with Mrs. Traylpr's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hedrickiand other relatives. Floyd returned home Sunday. Miss Joyce Traylor of Florence Is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Lilllo Craig. The Catching-Randall mill com pany has purchased the Reed acreage just north of the mill, in order to. enlarge their mill pond. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Delancy have purchased the new 'Sam Ball house in south Drain and moved there last week. Mrs. Silas Smith and children, Miss Betty and Dale, are now occupying the Trueblood cabin, vacated by the Delaneys. Miss Mildred Young spent a few days last week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Young, returning Monday to Os wego, where she Is a teacher in the grade school.
