(AP) As toria's defending champions had that championship sparkle last nlcrht as they thumped McMlnn- Xi" ville. 45-25. and took a lavored place in the state high school basketball tourney semi-finals. Baker's BulldoRs, who defeated North Bend, 39-32, meet the fish ermen tonight in what may be the decisive game of the tourna ment. In the upper bracket, Corvallis had an easy time with Mount An gel, 47-25, and tonight will meet Medford. Medford went over time to down Hillsboro yesterday, ' 29-23. Medford came from behind to eliminate Hillsboro. The count ' was tied 5-all at the quarter and Hillsboro held a 1210 lead at the half. At three quarters Medford still trailed, 17-15, but in a whirl- . wind rally the black tornado mov ed ahead 23-21 with 20 seconds to go. Hillsboro tied it up with a last-second basket, but was help- less in the overtime period. Neidermeyer, Nonteith and Webber each dropped one through . the hoop for the Medford victory. All-Star Team OfBasketballers, Dist. 4, Selected The Medford Tigers and Ash land Llthlans dominated the dis trict 4 all-star basketball team, as selected by eight coaches and sports writers of the four league cities. The balloting was spon sored by the Medford Mail-Tribune. One Roseburg player, Ed Hughes, was placed at center on the second team. The first team selections were: Charles Jandreau, Ashland, for ward and captain; Henry Her man, Medford, forward; Bill Wall, Medford, center; Don Fawcett, Medford, and Bud Provost, Ash land, guards. Second team: Johnny Gray and Neil Schrimpf, both of Grants Pass, forwards; Ed Hughes, Rose burg, center; Bob Harvard, and Chet Fowler, Ashland, guards. Medal Given Youth for Warning at Pearl Harbor WASHINGTON, Mar. 13. (AP) The distinguished service medal was received yesterday by Staff Sergeant Joseph L. Lock aid, who delivered the unheeded warning ot the approach of planes to Pearl harbor shortly before the Japanese attack December 7. Undersecretary of War Patter son presented the medal to Lock aid lor "exceptionally meritor ious service to your country with the declaration, "may the warn ing of danger to your country never go unheeded again." Soldiers WASHINGTON, Mar. 13 (AP) Acting under authority of a newly enacted law, army and navy officials sought today to re move any possibility of financial distress among families of Ameri can soldiers, sailors and marines captured by the enemy or report ed missing. The law, empowering the secre taries of war and navy to order dependency allotments from sala ries of men captured or missing, was signed by President Roosevelt earlier this week, and officials said many cases of real or poten tial hardship were expected to be quickly corrected.
