Lovely refreshments were served by Orpha Binder and Paula An- SUNDAY SCHOOL TO OOLD CHRISTMAS ARTY ON SATURDAY The beginners, primary and junior departments ot the First Presbyterian church Sunday school will hold their annual Christmas party from two to three-thirty o'clock Saturday, De cember 20, at the church parlors. Mrs. B. L. Eddy, superintendent of the departments, will be assist ed by the Sunday school teachers of the three groups. The Minual Christmas Sunday school program will be open to the public at 9:45 o'clock Sunday morning, December 21, at the church. BENSON V.T. A. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM TO BE HELD MONDAY All parents of Benson school children are urged to attend the Qnson P.-T. A. meeting at 7:30 xt Monday evening at the schoolhouse. Rehearsal lor tne program wm be held at two o'clock Sunday af ternoon at the church. TATE GRANGE CONFERENCE HELD The state grange conference was held Tuesday evening at the Riversdalo grange hall. A num bers of granges in the county wore represented at the session. Interesting demonstrations were presented, followed by an enjoy able program including several talks. RIVERSDALE GRANGE TO MEET THIS EVENING Rivcrsdale grange will meet to night at a six-thirty o'clock pot luck supper at the hall honoring all members having birthdays in the last three months. Members m tending are asked to bring t ir own table service. The reg ir grange meeting will follow the supper. Christ mas gifts were exchanged. HOME EC CLUB IS ENTERTAINED AT HUTCHINSON HOME Mrs. J. Ross Hutchinson enter tained at a lovely luncheon for the Home Economics club at her home in Kellogg on Tuesday. The table was decorated in the Christmas motif. After lunch a business meeting was held at which time plans were made for a pie social to be held on the 18th of December at grange hall. Prizes were given for the pret tiest decorated pie container and for the most unique pie. Later in the afternoon Mrs. Hutchinson was surprised by a shower of handkerchiefs from the club ladies honoring her birthday. Lovely refreshments were served to Mrs. Hagar, Mrs. Chas. Madison and daughter, Lorna 1 Bell, and members, Agnes Pow ell, Mable Rader, Elizabeth Fish er, Blanch Bullock, Virginia My ers. S. weather bureau to day resumed issuance of weather statistics on a somewhat re stricted basis. . The bureau has been prevented from giving out information on weather condi tions, since the declaration of war, while plans were being worked out to provide needed in formation for purely local pur poses without providing data which might prove useful to the enemy. The weather statistics, publica tion of which is resumed in the News-Review today, will include maximum and minimum tem peratures, rainfall measure ments, etc. The weather bureau, however, will not be permitted to issue forecasts except in extreme emer gencies. Warnings can be given of . impending cold waves and daytime storm warnings can be issued, both for publication and radio broadcast, but information on cloud conditions, wind direc tions and long range forecasts are strictly taboo. Ban Put on Information About Draft Quotas The Douglas county selective service board today received in structions from national head quarters to withhold in the fu ture any information concerning the quotas of men to be inducted into the army, date of inductions, etc. Heretofore information has been given in advance of the in duction dates. During the past few days the work of the board has been so greatly increased that it has been necessary to employ two addi tional clerks. Because of this great Increase in work, it is stat. ed, it is necessary that the board I adhere strictly to the regulation providing that registrants desir j ing to make an appearance be fore the board first secure a deli I nlte appointment. (API An "excuse, please" murmur ing little Japanese shopkeeper named Hara, who for the past few years sold loaves of bread and soda pop to residents of Vigan, was unmasked today as Major Hara of the Imperial Japanese army. A Filipino arriving from a town near Japanese-occupied Vigan, 200 miles northwest ot Manila, told the story. He said Hara was arrested at the out break of hostilities but when the first Japanese troops land ed on Dec. 10 they proceeded directly to the jail and releas ed him. He then donned his major's uniform. Hara is also Japanese "military governor of the province of Ilocos Sur." Lieut. H. B. Black, in Philippines, Radios 'Safe' Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Black today received a radiogram from their son, Lieut. H. Burton uiacK, re porting his safety. He is a mem ber of a tank battalion at Fort Stotsenburg In the Philippines. He left Fort Lewis, Oct. 1. Starr, state comman der of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, scheduled to meet last night with members of Patrick W. Kelley post, was prevented from making the trip to Rose burg and failed to appear for the post meeting, held at the K. of P. hall. As no alternate program had been arranged, post mem bers transacted routine business and held an informal discussion of matters pertaining to general activities. Carlos Page Speaker on Fellowship at Rotary Fellowship was the topic of discussion at the regular Thurs day meeting of the Roseburg Ro tary club. Carlos Page was the speaker for the program and In his talk dealt with the human re lationships of friendship and fel lowship. A ii S' RHS Hoopsters Go to Medford for Jamboree Games The Roseburg high school bas ketball team left today for Med ford lo participate In the south ern Oregon basketball Jamboree. Teams from Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, Roseburg and Klam ath Falls will participate. Each team will play a six-minute quar ter with each of the other teams, and awards will be mailt -to the team winning the greater num ber of quarters, the best team on offense and the best team on de fense. One member of each team will be selected to participate in a foul shooting contest, with a suit able award to be given the win ner. The travelling team from the local school, Coach Jim Davis an nounced today, will Include Hughes, Ness, Baker, Cacy, James, Shoemaker, Wimberly, Stephens, Anderson, and Cum mings. The first game of the season for the Indians will be played in the local gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 3, against Junction City high school.
