Such evaluations may very well, at present at least, be concerned with the quest! i: Just what doi's this world-u Wi war twlth the- United stales in Ihe center) mean to us - individually and here at home in Don, las county, Oregon. We can do very lilllj n.ioul the daily developments throughout the whole world. We shall, in fact, he only relatively meager! Informed as to what ueti ally is happening. We can follow events end do everything possible to help but those things lire happening at a great distance. We are living our lives right here. This, of course, refers to those who will not be a part of the arrne.l forc es. We will be the rentes mil lions who wait, and hope. A simple, homely, and rugged philosophy that should be reason ably valuable to hold would run .son clhlng like tills: We find our selves In a world gone mail. We are. here on earth yet we can do very little about it. Meanwhile e have our daily lives to live. Brltton, chairman of the Douglas county Red Cross emer gency war relief drive, announc ed plans today for the campaign wnicn Douglas county citizens are being asked to contribute $5,000 by December 29. ' Assisted by W. M. Campbell, treasurer, and Mrs. Harris Ells worth, publicity chairman, Mr. Brltton has divided the county and each community into sec llons, and has appointed leaders for each district. 'A letter has been sent each leader, asking him to head up the drive In his dis trict, and If he is unable to do so, to appoint another responsible person. Appointment of committees to conduct the drive in Roseburg will be announced soon, Mr. Brlt ton reports. Roseburg solicitation will be carried on by Boy Scouts and Campflre Girls In the residential districts, and hy members of men's and women's service clubs in Ihe business district. Mr. Brltton emphasized that tills is an emergency drive, and that speed counts greatly. Letters have been written to heads of all schools In the county requesting teachers explain the functions of the Red Cross to students, and to accept contributions. All lodges, service clubs, churches, and so cial groups will be asked lo con tribute, lie said. All donations accepted are to be mailed to W. M.
