CAP) Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis lias been paid princely sums for fighting, but his wage scale is skidding to the vanishing point. Within a few weeks he will be inducted Into the army to fight, if necessary, fur $21 a month and now he has agreed to light for the navy for nothing. A 15-round title bout between the champion and Buddy IJaer, Hie big Californian he beat In six rounds last spring, was announc ed last night for January 9 in Madison Square garden. The profits will go to the New York auxiliary of the navy relief society and Louis will receive nothing more than his expenses for staking his heavyweight crown, the most valuable bauble in sports. But Ancll Hoffman, Baer's manager, said In Sacramento, Calif., that Buddy would receive the customary challenger's per centage after taxes and a 10 per cent cut for the navy had been taken off the top. Rich Merchant Held in Shooting of Legion Head STOCKTON, Calif., Nov. 13 i API Maurice Zuckorman, 00, wealthy Los Angeles and Stock ton commission merchanl, was ac cused today of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit murder. The charge was an aftermath of the Armistice day shooting of a Stockton Ameri can Legion leader in a cocktail bar. Justice of the peace Goorue F. Buck set bail at 50,000 cash cr $100,000 bond, and selected No vember 24 for a preliminary hear ing. Victim in the shooting was Otto Dander, 40, past commander of the Stockton Legion post, and leader of the Armistice day par ade.
