Welders Asked to Go Back fo Work Pending Parley WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 (AP) Associate Director Sidney Hill man of the OPM said today a committee representing striking west coast welders had agreed to ask the strikers' to return to work immediately. The number Involved in the walkout is estimated variously by the union at 20,000 and by the OPM labor division at 5,000. About 10,000 other workers have been made Idle by the strike. After all night negotiations, which broke up at 7 a. m. today, Hlllman said Kail V, Morris, president of the' United Welders, Cutters and Helpers of America, had been designated to call off the walk out. As soon as the men returned to work, Hlllman added, the OPM would call a conference of the welders, OPM labor officials, and representatives of other labor or ganizations Interested In the dis pute in an effort to find a per manent solution of the welders' troubles. ile raid all the strikers who re turned immediately would be giv en their former jobs without dis crimination, under protection of the OPM ponding the outcome of the conference. The welders involved were em ployed on important west coast shipbuilding projects. They loft their Jobs about three weeks ago demanding that the American federation of Labor recognize them as, a separate union.
