"Biddy" Bishop, Famed
In Boxing Game, Passes
SAN FRANCISCO. Oct. 21.
(API George F. (Biddy) Bish
op, whose connection with boxing
dated back to the 1890 s, is dead.
Bishop suffered a fatal heart
attack last Saturday, but It was
not until last night that he was
Identified as a former boxing
promoter in Seattle and Cincin
nati, and one-time sports editor of
a Tacomn, Wash., newspaper.
The veteran sportsman, about
73, was born In San Francisco and
boxed both as an amateur and a
professional.
In the early part of this cen
tury he managed such fighters ns
young Peter Jackson, Al Neill,
then Pacific coast middleweight
champion; Toby Irwin, now a
prominent fight referee, and Au
rello Herrera. Ho also trained
Kid Lavlgue of Sagamore, Mich.,
former world's lightweight cham
pion. In later years he managed
