Mrs. John M. Raish is in charge of the entertainment and W. E. Buell, G. M. Krell and Mrs. Adrian Fish er are assisting. The club met Friday at a lovely one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon at the home of Mrs. Glen Wilson on Flint street with Mrs., C. G. Van Valzah, Mrs. Floyd Wil son and Mrs. Charles A. Edwards, assisting hostesses. Beautiful autumn flowers and leaves were used about the rooms. Covers were placed for Mrs. Marl on Fclter, Mrs. C. W. COUNTRY CLUB LADIES ENJOY DELIGHTFUL DAY AT CLUB THURSDAY Contract bridge was enjoyed by the ladles of the Country club Thursday morning at the club house with Mrs. L. Stearns win ning the high score and Mrs. H. C. Stearns, second high score. Luncheon was served at noon to Mrs. L. E. McClintock, captain, Mrs. W. J. Olmscheid, secretary, Mrs. Kenneth Quine, Mrs. Ed- dvard G. Kolhagen, Mrs. L. ttearns, Mrs. A. C. Anderson, Mrs. Arnold Davis, Mrs. H. C. Stearns, Mrs. Kenneth W. Kinney, Mrs. Robert Blssell, Mrs. W. Plans were made for the hard time dancing party to be enjoyed by members and their invited quests the evening of November 1st at the clubhouse. Mrs. A. C. Anderson, Mrs. O. R. Golfing was enjoyed during the afternoon with Mrs. Judd win ning the first flight and Miss Helen Casey the second flight. OMRS. Hallmark. Pastel zinnias and Cecil Brun fter roses were used to carry out a beautiful motif for the occa sion. Lovely gifts were presented to Mrs. Hallmark from: Miss Myth Hanan, of San Francisco, Mrs. Leo Young, of Portland, and Mrs. O. M. Berrie, guests, and the following club members: Mrs. D. B. Helllwell invited the members of the birthday club to his home on South Kane street Thursday evening to surprise and honor Mrs. Helllwell on her birth dav anniversary. Thimble club met for a lovely one-thirty o' clock potluck luncheon Monday at the home of Mrs. A. D. Hawn. Mrs. Wesley Ncese was welcom ed into the club as a new mem ber. Pieces for two quilts were dis tributed among the members to be made for the home for aged in Oakland, Calif. Those enjoy ing the afternoon included the hostess, Mrs. A. D. MID-WEEK BIBLE CLASS HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING THURSDAY A most enjoyable meeting of the Mid-Week Bible Class of St. Paul's Lutheran church was held last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. V. Andraieff with Mrs. W. Ackley as joint hostess. The regular business meeting was followed by an interesting discussion of Matthew chapter three. The rest of the afternoon was spent socially, at which time the hostesses served lovely re freshments to Rev. and Mrs. Syl wester, Mrs. L. Wilson, Mrs. R. Kaine, Mrs. A. Coenenburg, Mrs. P. Evangelist-Trumpeter Dated Here Dr. Walter D. Kallenbach, nationally-known evangelist, above, will begin a series of meetings at the First Baptist church of Rose burg Tuesday evening starting at 7:30 o'clock. Dr. Kallenbach is blind and 35 years of age. Before losing his eyesight in a hunting accident, he traveled around the world as the lead trumpet player in Paul Whiteman's orchestra. Since he became blind he was converted and called into the ministry. He graduated with honors in two and one-half years from the Uni versity of Virginia after becom ing blind. He is the only Phi Betta Kappa blind man in Ameri ca. Besides graduating from the MISS CAROL CARNES ENTERTAINS SEWING CLUB THURSDAY NIGHT Miss Carol Carnes entertained her sewing club at her home at Carnes station Thursday evening. Dr. Kallenbach was the Easter morning speaker in 1938 at Sol dier's field, Chicago, when 'nore than 1000 churches participated. He is listed in Who's Who In America and in Ripley's Believe It or Not. He has played golf with his friend Bob Ripley. He golfs, swims, bowls, pitches horse shoes and tends his on garden. All the girls came attractively dressed In very original frontier costumes, both as boys and girls. Many old fashioned games were played after which came the grand March played by Doro thy Busch and led by Francis Moore and Barbradel Fream. The best boy costume prize went to Barbradel Fream and the best frontier girl went to Wanda White a guest, the judge was Miss Rletlel, a box supper was enjoyed by the following girls and their guardian who was assisted by Myrtle Norwood, Pat Nleholes, Melva Penny, Josephine Hanel, Virginia Mills, Illene Young, Francis Moore, Elva Morgan, Bar bradel Fream, Marie Neal, Shir ley Shrum, Mary Ellen McKay, Barbara Hutchins, Nancv McClin tock, Wanda White, Shirley Wil son, Betty Erno, Dorothey Busch, Janet Burpee, Adlss Wilson, Bev erley Nicols, Ann Carter, Jean Ackly. Peggy Smith Active in St. Helen's Hall Party Peggy Smith, Roseburg girl who Is In the Junior class of St. Helen's Hall High school in Port land, has been active in arrang ing the annual "old-girl-new-girl" party held each fall, according to word received from the Portland institution. Miss Smith, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. .Perry H. Smith, was one of the committee members organizing the traditional affair, at which new students shed the three-Inch wide yellow hair rib bons they have been wearing, and are formally initiated Into "old girl" status. This is the second year that Peggy Smith has attended the hall. Her sister, Louise Smith, is reported to be making good progress in her nursing work In Portland. Louise Smith, who graduated from St. Helen's Hall in 10-10, is now in residence at Good Samaritan hospital. George J. Langenberg Passes Away in Salem . George J. Langenberg, 91, for mer resident of Roseburg, died October 7 at Salem, where he had made his home for the last 15 years, according to word received here. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, and came to Oregon about 50 years ago. He engaged In his trade ns harness maker and also operated a ranch p.bout a mile east of Roseburg, during his period of residence here. , . Surviving are the , following sons and daughters: Fred Langen berg, Salem; Frank Langenberg, Oklahoma; Mrs. Emma Amlette, Portland; John Langenberg, Port land; Mrs. Edna Baker, Rose burg; Orvllle Langenberg, Eu gene. Funeral services were held at Salem and burial was in the Catholic cemetery there. Two Youths Sought in Abduction-Attack Case STOCKTON, Calif., Oct. 18 (AP) Two youths were hunted today after two fourteen-year-old girls had been abducted from a country club party, and one of them assaulted, after their young escorts had been robbed and tied. One of those sought was 19 years old, the other about 17. Sheriff Martin Ansbro said they, as well as the victims of the assault and robbery, were members of prominent and weal thy Stockton families. The two girls and their two companions said that as they strolled on a fairway near the club, two youths held up the boys, robbed and tied them, and forc ed the girls Into an automobile. Later the girls were put out of the car near College of the Paci fic. Liquor Ban Hits Hotel PORTLAND, Oct. 18. (AP) I The state liquor control commls I sion yesterday suspended the re tail beer license of Mcdlords Jackson hotel for 15 days on a charge that hard liquor had been sold on the premises. Russell returned to her home on Reservoir avenue last evening, following a week at Steamboat visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wright T. Mallery. Mrs. Mallery killed a deer near Steamboat dur ing the week.
