POTLUCK SUPPER IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR GLENDALE, Aug. 22. Tues day evening Mi's. Marie Illidge and Mrs. Emma Belle Robinson were hostesses to a potluck sup per at the Capital camp. CALIFORNIA VISITORS ENJOY STAY HERE A reunion of comrades after forty-three years took place Wed nesday when Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Durham of Indio, California, stopped in Roseburg to visit Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Beels of 1544 Yale avenue. These men served during the Spanish American war in Co. L, 2nd Nebraska volunteer infantry of which Mr. Beels was captain. Mr. Durham is an ex-railroader nnd for the past eight years has operated a date farm. He and his wife are homeward bound after nn automobile tour which began the first of May and took them as far east as Ohio and north in to Montana. RANK WOOLEY HAS ARTY ON BIRTHDAY GLENDALE, Aug. 22. Mrs. Frank Wooley entertained Mon day afternoon for her son, Frank Eugene's, eighth birthday. The afternoon was spent in playing games on the lawn. Prizes of suckers were given to winners of each game. Lloyd Lee, of Aber nathy, helped with the games. The ones present were Betty Jean Hill, Russell Hill, Benjo Mouchett, Joan Thomas, Betty Rose Reed, Barbara St. Clair, Marvin Ashman, Billy Sapping ton, Ruth Le wall en, Billy Sparkes, Betty Lee Caraway and John Harbour. MILWAUKIE VISITORS HONORED AT PICNIC WILBUR, Aug. 22. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ellison of Milwaukie Byore honored with a very enjoy able picnic dinner Sunday at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. McKay. The afternoon was spent playing croquet and visit ing. Those enjoying the occa sion were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ellison, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. ASHMAN ENTERTAIN INFORMALLY GLENDALE, Aug. 22. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Ashman were host and hostess to a group of friends Thursday evening with a wiener roast in their yard. Sorrells and daughter, La 'ern, Donna Sorrels, of Williams, Bobby Schooling, of Dunham, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kardell and Joan and Roy Wampole, also the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Ashman, and Douglas and Mar vin. WELFARE SHOP TO CLOSE ON SATURDAY Saturday, August 23, will be the last day the American Legion auxiliary welfare shop (located In the former Maddox grocery building on Jackson street) will be open. Mrs. H. T. Hansen is In chargo-of the -shap. Tlwwix-. diary has ..maintained .the shop for the last year find it has been one of the most successful pro jects ever sponsored by the unit. All proceeds of the shop go to the child welfare department of the unit. American Legion AuxilWy ActivWe. By MRS. CLAUDE BAKER President Mrs. Irvin Riegel and Commander Irvin Riegel were installed Wednesday night at a joint installation held at Drain. Drain, Reedsport and Roseburg posts and units were in stalled by District Commander Micelli, who also compiled the impressive joint ceremony. He was assisted by District President Bernlece Beard and Past District President Peg Young. Presiding at opening exercises were officers from the three posts and units. Commander Goodmanson of Drain opened the meeting, thereupon presenting Commander Victor Micelli, who in turn presented his installing staff of Roseburg post and unit. Assisting as Installing officers were E. A. Post, Christine Micelli, Peg Young, Vincent Malone, Sam Carson, Kathryn Ullrich, Homer Grow, Greta Caskey, J. E. Pounds and Florence Grow at the piano. Past and present district and department officers were pre sented to the assembly, the wom en receiving beautiful corsages. Commanders James Young and Goodmanson were presented with commander's pins by Mr. Mi celli. Berniece Beard, district president from Marshfield, was again introduced and after speak ing briefly presented past presi dent's pins to Presidents Mar guerite La Grander and Lois Var ney Baker. District Commander Micelli in troduced Past President Peg Young, who proceeded to install Commnnders Irvin Riegel, Rose burg; Harold Lewis, Reedsport, and Claire -La Grander, Drain; Presidents Bess Riegel, Roseburg and Edna Kenney, Drain. Alice Hogan, , Reedsport, had been pre viously Installed. Reedsport's new Commander Lewis closed the meeting. Pre ceding closure new officers were called upon to speak. Each pledg ed his and her loyalty and labors to the American Legion cause. Past President Christine Micel li so startled Past President Bak er by requesting her to present herself before the chair that for once she was speechless. While Christine extolled the good things accomplished by yours truly for the Roseburg unit, this humble person was still gasping. Chris tine uses a special brand of blar ney. However, the gift presented by officers working with me dur ing this past year is a beautiful reminder of associations not soon to be forgotten. Only another past president knows. The past president's pin Is another beau tiful gold and jewelled symbol of a year which we have tried to make successful. Bess Riegel has asked this past president to act as publicity chairman this year. It Is much easier to do that for some one other than myself. A bountiful feed was put on by Drain with Roseburg assisting. Made loquacious with the bounti ful banquet speeches were heard which stirred the group to renew ed determination to do all pos sible for our country and com munities this year. The beauti ful, unusual decorations were made by Drain's new president. Edna Kenney. The first meeting of Umpqua post and unit will be Sept. 2 at the armory with President Bess Riegel officiating.
