A lovely shower was given Friday at the home of Mrs. Clarence Tillotson, honoring Mrs. J. C. Livingston. The afternoon was spent in visit ing. CLASS HOLDS INFORMAL PARTY GLENDALE, Aug. 18. The K'rls of the fifth grade class of the Presbyterian Sunday school entertained the fourth grade class and their teacher, Mrs. B. F. Mouchett, Thursday afternoon with a swimming party and a wiener roast on Cow creek close to town. The afternoon was spent In swimming and later the group roasted wieners and marshmal lows. The ones present were Betty Harbour, Mary Ann Bowman, Marion Nixon, Mary Ruth Sparkes, Diane Morey, Denice - Huntington, Earl Sether, Charles Mill, Lee Mill, Benje Mouchett and the teachers, Mrs. Mouchett and Mrs. George Mill. VIRGINIA HOWARD AND JOHN MEINZER MARRY YONCALLA, Aug. 18. Word a is been received from Fair banks, Alaska, of the marriage of Miss Virginia Arlene Howard, of Lookingglass, Oregon, and John E. Meinzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Meinzer, former residents of Yoncalla. The ceremony took place In Fairbanks with Rev. R. Rolland Armstrong, pastor of the Presbyterian church performing the ring ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Meinzer will make their home in Garden Valley Island, Alaska, where the grom is assistant man ager for the West Coast Grocery company. INFORMAL PARTY IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR TEN MILE, Aug. 18. Misses Olive and Joan Kreiger were very gracious hostesses to the following: Arbutus Albro, Johnna Erbe, Dora Cooper, Jack Cabot, Glen Coats, Donald Coats and pay Hoar. They enjoyed a marsh- allow roast, swimming and games until a late hour when they returned to the house where refreshments were served. Every one had a very grand time. LAWN PARTY ANO SILVER TEA GIVEN YONCALLA, Aug. 18. Mrs. Avery Lasswell, assisted by Mrs. Eric Stcnseth, Mrs. Perry Smith, Mrs. Gertrude Stoute, and Mrs. Jess Lasswell, entertained at a charming lawn party and silver tea for the W. S. C. S. of the Methodist church, at the Lasswell home Thursday afternoon. The beautiful lawn held many set tees,' arid lawn (hair. Mrs. Perry Smith had charge of the devo tionals and led In singing "I Love to Tell the Story," with Miss Ruth Stoute playing the accordion. Miss Dixie Lee Walkinshaw re cited all the books of the Bible. Mrs. Smith read a very interest ing article on foreign missions, and Miss Evelyn Gelder an article on home missions, following by an accordion solo by Ruth Stoute, Mrs. Roberts gave one of her in teresting readings, after which Mrs. Gertrude Stoute led In a Bible quiz game, which showed many of the ladles their lack of knowledge of the Bible. T h e Busy Bees of the Rebckah lodge met at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Baker Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Roy Wilson was the assistant hostess. A picnic lunch was serv ed on big tables under the oak trees. Miller, of Roseburg, at Mercy hospital, Sunday, August 17, a daughter, Barbara Kay; weight seven pounds, four and a half ounces. J. S. Horney, Resident Of Roseburg, Passes J. S. Homey, 85, for many years a resident of Roseburg, died early today at the home of his son, Ross Horney, in Salem. He was born in Quincy, 111., in 1856. Surviving are five sons and daughters: Mrs. Roscoe Mar sters and Richard Horney, Rose burg; Ross Horney, Salem; Mrs. Arthur Karnes, San Francisco, and Tim Horney, Portland. The body is being brought to day to the Roseburg Undertaking company parlors. Funeral ar rangements have not been com pleted.
