R. H. Wilson at I'mpqua. It was decided by the mem bers to sew and knit for the Red Cross at all future meetings. Those present included: Mrs. John M. Ralsh and daughters, Betty Ann, Velda Mae and Naomi, Mrs. Loren Harvey and daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Ver non Keel and son, Tommy, Mrs. Marion Felter, Miss Vera Rae, , Mrs. Hugh Harrison, Mrs. G. M. 1 Krell, Mrs. Earl Wiley, Mrs. E. A. Britton and son, Jim, Mrs. Glenn Wilson, Mrs. Harold Mc Kay, Mrs. Charles Edwards, Mrs. Kenneth Ford and daugh ter, Carmen, Mrs. J. A. Maulding and daughter, Jean, Mrs. Mel ville T. Wire, Mrs. Floyd Wilson, Mi's. Elward Smith, Mrs. E. J. The August meeting will be held August 1 at the home of Mrs. Clarence Rand with Mrs. Loren Harvey and Mrs. Elward Smith, assisting hostesses. COUNTRY CLUB LADIES ENJOY DELIGHTFUL DAY OF GOLFING AND BRIDGE The ladles of the Roseburg Country club enjoyed three blind i holes of golf Thursday at the ' clubhouse with Mrs. Kenneth Quine winning the first flight; Mrs. E. B. Van Ness, second flight, and Mrs. A. C. Anderson, third flight. Potluck luncheon was served at noon to Mrs. H. C. Stearns, captain, Mrs. E. B. Van Ness, secretary pro-tern; Miss Phyllis Allen, of Bloomington, 111., Mrs. W. E. Ott, Mrs. Harris Ellsworth, Mrs. L. Stearns Mrs. E. J. Rod gers Mrs. W. J. Olmscheld, Mrs. A. C. Anderson, Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagcn, Mrs. Kenneth Quine, Mrs. R. D. Bridges, Mrs. Ken neth W. Kinney, Mrs. Gene Greene, Mrs. J. M. Judd and a new member, Miss Georgia Shumway. Mrs. J. C. Hume and Mrs. L. E. McClintock joined the group for bridge. High score for the after noon was won by Mrs. Hume with Mrs. McClintock winning second I high score " The coffee committee announc ed for next week included Mrs. J. F. Dillard and Mrs. Harris Ellsworth. The group will meet at 9 a. m. for golfing with pot luck luncheon at 12:30 and con tract bridge at 1:30 o'clock. BIRTHDAY DINNER IS ENJOYED AT BAILEY HOME ON SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bailey en tertained at a very lovely one o'clock dinner at their beautiful home Sunday in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Edythe Florence Kelley, past president of the International Re hekah assembly and also-past president of the Rebekah Assem bly of Oregon. Later in the day the group was joined by Miss Hallle Willits, Frank Floyd, of Klrby, and Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Aspey, of Hid-die. Contest of Bible Schools Will Close Tomorrow The contest between the Bi ble schools of the Roseburg and Cottage Grove Christian chuches has been creating much interest for the past ten weeks. This contest will close tomorrow and the final scores will be announc ed at the morning service of the local church. The complete fig ures will . be received by long distance telephone from Cottage Grove at 10 a. m., so that both congregations will receive the news at the same time. The con test has been based on attend ance, collections and personal contacts or calls and a lively in terest has been shown on both sides. All members of the local Bible school are urged to be pres ent Sunday morning to help in the final count as well as to hear the results. North Jackson St. Grass Fire Does No Damage The Roseburg fire department was called shortly after 1 p. m. Friday to extinguish a grass fire which was burning out of con trol on North Jackson street. Lawson, of Camas Valley, were business visi tors in this city Friday. Back From Vacation Richard McClintock has returned to his home in this city, following a va cation in Portland visiting at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John McClintock. Spend Day Here Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. W. T. Wright, of Days Creek, were visitors here Friday. They were accompanied on their return to Days Creek by Mrs. R. A. Moore, who returned to her home in that community, follow ing a visit here with her daugh ter, Miss Nettie Moore. Attending Convention Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly and Mrs. J. M. .Judd left this morning for Port land, where they will attend the Hi-Jinx program of the North west Furniture dealers conven tion now in progress. Sunday they will participate in the con vention golf tournament to be held on the Oswego course. They will drive to Seattle Monday to spend a few days attending the furniture market to be held there. Leaves for New York Charles W. Boise of London, England, who is stationed at New York City for the duration of the war, left Friday on his return to his headquarters following a visit in Roseburg with his father, Watson E. Boise, and his brother, Eugene Boise, and family. Mrs. R. C. Bell and daughter, Barbara and son, David of Palo Alto, also visit ed at the Boise home here, leav ing today on their return, home. Mrs. Charles W. Boise anddaugh ters, Anne and Mary, and son, Charles P., will remain here for a few weeks at the Charles and Eu gene Boise ranch on the Glide road. Forman was ap pointed assistant professor of his tory and government at Albany college of Portland yesterday. President C. W. Greene said Forman, who holds degrees from Ohio State university and the University of Wisconsin, would teach a special course on devel opment of the British empire. Advanced In Air Service Ac cording to word received here, Craig Marstcrs, who is stationed In the U. S. flying corps at Elm endorn field, Anchorage, Alaska, has been advanced to the rank of sergeant. He Is the son of Lyle Marsters, of Happy Valley, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Marsters of this city. He Is well known here, having former ly made his home in Roseburg.
