Mrs. Raphael Wise and Mrs. Lloyd Wise were hostesses to a birthduy party honoring the 9th birthday of their son and grandson, Tyr rell Wise, at his home in Seutts valley, Wednesday afternoon. The youngsters enjoyed play Ing games, after which many beautiful gifts were presented to the honoree and a delicious lunch served to Tyrrell Wise, Wilbur, Donle and Albert Wells, Cyrenis Vroman, Ernest Jackson, Nor val Ritchie, Junior and Jackie Wells, Mrs. Nettie Hanan, Mrs, Lester Wells, and the hostesses. Stark, presi dent of the Elgarose Comfort club has requested all members to collect and bring aluminum that can be spared for use in national defense, to the picnic to be held Sunday, July 20, at the Charles Olson home at one o'clock. All members and their friends are cordially invited. The next regular 'meeting of the club will be Tuesday, August 5, at the home of Mrs. Daisy Ward with Mrs. Hildur Johnson in charge of the program. JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB TO SPONSOR DANCE The Junior Woman's club will sponsor a delightful carnival benefit dance Saturday night at Oakland. Proceeds of the affair will be used by the club lor its county home project. Mrs. J. E. Ilenbest is general chairman of the dance and is being assisted bv Mrs. C. E. Smith, Mrs. Perry Thiele, Miss Dorothy Crummett and Miss Patricia Turner. WAR RELIEF GROUP TO MEET ON THURSDAY The War Relief group will meet Thursday afternoon at two o' clock at the Perkins building to spend several hours preparing clothing for Great Britain relief. All women interested in this type of work are cordially invited to meet at the Perkins building and assist the group in this project. Mrs. Annie L. Russell is chairman of the group. " WOMEN TO OPEN ALUMINUM DRIVE HERE JULY 21 i The committee in charge of aluminum for national defense drive met yesterday at two o'clock at the chamber of com merce office with Mrs. William Bell, chairman, presiding. The city was divided into dis tricts and a chairman was as signed to each district. The resi dents of Roseburg are asked to gather their aluminum and place it in a box on their front porch. The chairman of their district will call and if there is no aluminum on the porch, will inquire at the door, if any will be obtainable for the drive. Chairmen announced by Mrs. Bell for the drive, which will open July 21 and continue through July 29, include: Section south of Cass and west of Jack son street to railroad tracks to be collected bv the Junior Woman's club with Mrs. C. E. Smith as chairman. Laurelwood and West Rose burg to be collected by 1lic aux iliary to the Fraternal Order of Eagles with Mrs. Bender as chairman. North of Cass and westside of Jackson to Deer creek and rail road tracks, by Business and Pro fessional Women's club with El nor Sherk as chairman. Eastside of Jackson to west side of South Main and south of Cass to state highway by Lady Lions club with Mrs. S. C. Rich mond as chairman. Eastside of Jackson street north between northsidc of Doug las to southside of Deer creek road (where the two roads meet) and out to Dixonville by the Bell view club with Miss Olive Walk er as chairman. Lady Elks to Meet A special meeting of the Lady Elks has been called by the vice-president, Mrs. Waldo Campbell, for Friday night at 8 o'clock at the temple for the purpose of making plans for the aluminum for national defense drive. Leaves for Salem Dr. Morris H. Roach, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city, left Tuesday for Salem to attend the synod of the Oregon Presby terian churches, to be held there until Thursday evening. -Stewart Slattery, of Roseburg, will attend the youths' session of the sy nod. VERA GOETZ IS HONORED AT GARDEN PARTY ON MONDAY Monday evening a group from the Presbyterian Christian Eiv deavor gathered in the yard of the Harpham home on Winches ter street for a surprise shower for Vera Goetz and Lewis Wilson. Pound gifts were presented and also a lovely gift from the so. ciety. Van Valzah has returned from Portland, where he spent the past week attending the Pa cific coast dental conference. He reports that more than 1000 dent ists attended from Pacific coast states and Canada. The confer ences are held every three years for dentists from all states west of the Rocky mountains.
