Miss Virginia Byron Is taking a special course at a beauty op erators training school in Eu gene for a couple of weeks. Milard Northeraft went to Portland last week to accept de livery of a new Allis Chalmers combine which he brought back and which will be operated by Harvey Northcraft and sons the coming season. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Grimmes from San Jose. Calif., came up last week to visit relatives and old friends here and in Looking glass. They spent the week-end at the homes of Mrs. Grimmes' brothers, Gene, George and Earl Oilivant. Word has been received of the birth of a daughter, Susan Cloake, to Mr. and Mrs. Jim By ron of Grand Coulee, Wash. Jim h a son of Mrs. Fred Byron and is well known here having spent his boyhood in Olalla and attend ed grade school here. He has worked as an engineer at the big dam since the beginning of the project. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Oilivant and Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Carnall spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hook on the North Umpqua. Mike Ireland, who has been spending a short furlough at the family home here has returned to his California camp. He has recently been transfered from Moffett field to Bakersfield. Mr. and Mrs. Smith from Ta- coma, Wash., are spending the summer at the home of their daughter, Mrs. M. R. O'Dowd, and family. Miss Margery Tank- ersley Is assisting Mrs. O'Dowd during vacation. Mrs. A. P. Huffman has gone to Seattle for a few weeks' visit at the home of her sister. Mrs. Anna Ireland returned the first of the week from Port land, where she attended the Rose festival and also enjoyed a trip over Mt. Hood loop and a short stay at Timberline lodge as guest of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hlcklng. While in Portland the party at tended the wedding of Asher Ireland to Miss Adeliade King, who left at once for British Col umbia for a short trip and latpr will reside in Portland where they have a beautiful new home nearly completed. Asher is a brother of Cell and Henry Ire land and is well known In this vi cinity. Both he and his bride have worked with the U. S. for est service for several years. Miss Nella Arnold returned the first of the week from Oak land where she visited a few days at the home of her aunt, .Mrs. J. H. Miller.
