MEETS TO PLAN SOCIAL . the Garden Valley Women's club will hold their semi-monthly meeting Wednesday, July 2. at SUTHERLIN, June 30.-On ' O.ciock ln tne afternoon at Wednesday afternoon the Hometne ciunouse with Mrs. Harvey Economics club of the Nonpareil Ewens as hostess. During the business meeting plans were made for the annual lee cream social which will be held on the Fair Oaks clubhouse lawn on July 2nd at 8:00 p. m. The H. E. C. voted to discon tinue their meetings during the months of July and August with the first fall meeting in Septem-Ix-r being held at the home of Mrs. Agnes Fraser. At the close of the meeting de licious refreshments were served to the following: Mrs. Maggie Francis, Mrs. Delia Coleman, Mis. Agnes Fraser, Miss Venetta Fraser, Mrs. Minnie Davidson, Mrs. Mamie Varrelman, Miss Joyce Holgate and the hostess, Mrs. Hall. ICE CREAM SOCIAL TO BE HELD JULY 2 The Konpariel grange' is spon soring an ice cream social which "will be held at 8 p. m., July 2nd, on the Fair Oaks clubhouse lawn. No admission will be charged but ice cream, cake, pie, candy, hot dogs and coffee will be sold. The following program has been arranged: Piano solo, Mrs. Hazel Archambeau; vocal duet, Norma and Gloria Beecroft; vio lin solo, Betty Jean Davis; instru mental duct, Betty Jean Davis and Venetta Fraser; vocal solo, Mrs. Juanita Holgate; tap dance, Patsy Lou Wahl; vocal solo, Em ma Lukens; reading, Dickie Co nenberg; soxophone solo, Mrs. Carmen Carpenter; vocal solo, Margaret Rose: tap dance, Edna Huth Real and Patty Jordan; vo cal solo, Edilh Bratton; vocal rolo, Helen Allen, and "God Bless America," by all. MRS. BESS COOPER AND JOHN F. SELLERS MARRY In a service marked with sim plicity and dignity Mrs. Bess Cooper and John F. Sellers, both of Myrtle Creek, were united In marriage in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Blakely of Roseburg at 2:30 o'clock Saturday after noon. Rev. Waller A. Barnes, Christian minister of St. Helens, performed the ceremony in the living room beautifully decorated with bouquets of flowers. The bride wore a green redin goto wedding dress with white accessories and gloves and a cor sage of gardenias. Those who attended the service were Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Blakely and daughter, Margaret and Rev. and Mrs. Walter A. Barnes. SOCIAL CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING RIDDLE, June 30. Mrs. G. N. Riddle and Mrs. Ab Matthews were hostesses for the Eastern Star Social club which met at the lodge hall parlors Wednesday afternoon. Present were Mrs. Frank Matthews, Mrs. J. L. Aik ins, Mrs. Dora Willis, Mrs. G. L. Grant, Mrs. May Fate, Mrs. C. E. Logsdon, Mrs. Dudley Trapp. Mable Jane and Roberta Mat thews, Mrs. G. N. Riddle and Mrs. Ab Matthews. Refreshments were served after an afternoon of sewing and visiting. CRUISERS CLUB TO ENJOY PICNIC SUPPER Members and friends of the Cruisers club of the First Pres byterian church will enjoy a pot luck picnic supper this evening at the Don Young place at Win chester. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for the picnic supper, their own sandwiches and table service. . YOUNG PEOPLE'S LEAGUE TO PICNIC ON TUESDAY Members and friends of the Young People's league of St. Paul's Lutheran church arc cor- dially invited to meet Tuesday night at 6:30 o'clock at the church to go to the Forks of the river for an enjoyable picnic sup per and social evening. If the weather is bad, the picnic will be postponed. GARDEN VALLEY CLUB TO MEET WEDNESDAY are most cordially invited to be present. DIXONVILLE LADIES ENJOY MEETING Mrs. J. C. Royce and Mrs. J. S. Marr were most gracious hos tesses to the Dixonville Ladies club Thursday afternoon at the hall. Sewing and visiting were enjoyed and lovely refreshments were served at the tea hour by Mrs. Royce and Mrs. Marr to Mrs. Laura Brown, Mrs. John Fox, Mrs. R. C. Livingston, Mrs. O. C. Brown, Mrs. Walter Leake and Carrie Dixon. The next meeting will be July 17 at the hall with Mrs. John Fox, Mrs. H. E. Blood and Mrs. Joseph Heidenreich acting as hostesses. AFTERNOON HOME NURSING CLASS INVITED TO TEA The afternoon home nursing class of the American Red Cross has been Invited to enjoy tea Wednesday afternoon at the home of the instructor, Mrs. Grant H. Moore, at 302 East Washington street. Certificates will be given out at the tea. AUXILIARY SEWING CLUB TO MEET TUESDAY The sewing club to George Starmer auxiliary will meet Tues day afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. A. Taylor at 116 West Mosher street, instead of at the home of Mrs.. Charles Craig as previously announced. Here Over Week-End Miss Ina Farnsworth and Miss Vera Fredrickson, local school teach ers who are attending summer school in Portland, spent the week-end at their homes here. Here From West Fork Mrs. Mayme Archambeau brought Lee Emerson from West Fork this week-end to Mercy hospital, where the latter is receiving medical attention. Mr. Emerson was ill at the hospital for several months, before going to his home in West Fork to convalesce. Mrs. Archambeau, who resided here, has been assisting in the care of Mr. Emerson during his illness. to Portland Fred A. of Knieht-Porter com pany, left last night for Portland to s'nd two days atlendlng to business. Attend Wedding Miss Ila Lau bach and her uncle, C. E. Mans field, and Miss Dorothy Norton, of this city, drove to Eugene Sat urday to attend the wedding of Leah Register, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Register, and Alroy Douglas. The wedding was held at 4:30 in the afternoon at the First Presbyterian church. Fream residence, has left for Portland to spend her va cation visiting relatives. Visit In Ashland Norman Crites and Vere Perry, who re side at the C. R. Fream residence on South Stephens street, spent Sunday in Ashland visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Perry, former residents of this city. and Miss Lena Porter, of this city, went to Eugene Saturday to at tend the meeting of the I. O. O. F. lodge, at which time the grand sire of the sovereign grand lodge, Hon. James B. Hagerman, of Sas katoon, Sask., Canada, was the guest speaker. They also attend ed the intersectlonal picnic at "Swimmers' Delight" park near Eugene. Here on Business F. II. Allen, of Sacramento, Calif., has arriv ed here to attend to timber Inter ests en route south from a trip to Seattle. Move to Roseburg Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ward, of Salem, moved to Roseburg yesterday and Mr. Ward began his duties this morning us assistant man ager at the Western Auto Supply company store. They have rent ed a residence on the North Pa cific highway to make' their home. Scofield, formerly of this city and recently of Cres cent City, Calif., have moved back to Roseburg and are mak ing their home in the Lintott residence on Cobb street. Mr. Scofield is employed as a sales man at the Hansen Motor company. On account of the Fourth Julv week-end. the members Rites Held for Glendale Man Killed in Woods GLENDALE, Ore., June 30. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon for Henry Norton Smith, who was instantly killed in the woods Thursday, June 2fi, while working for Verne Gar deke, a contractor, logging for the Clare Mill Co. Rev. Paul Tidhall officiated and the Masons conducted the graveside services in the Glen dale cemetery. Mr. Smith was born at Roy, Washington, August 14, 1910, and had been living close to Glendale for about fifteen years. He was a graduate of the local high school. Those who survive are, his wife, Inez, and three children, Janet, Jackie and Lenora; also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Smith and three sisters, Mrs. Pear!
