The Elk ton Methodist church was the scene of a lovely wedding at 9:30 Sunday morning when Miss Ber nice Garrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Garrison, be came the bride of Henry Weath erly, son of Norman Wcatherly. The minister was Rev. Lucian Jones and Laura and James Adamo wtfro matron of honor and best man. The bride wore a street length dress and coat of navy blue silk and navy hat and accessor ies. The church was decorated with orange blossoms and lighted candles for the ceremony. After the wedding the imme diate relatives had dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garrison. Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wcatherly left for their honeymoon in California. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Adamo and daughter, Ther esa Marie, of Yreka, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. W. P. EDEN LADIES AID TO MEET ON FRIDAY The Eden Ladies aid of the El garose Lutheran church will hold its monthly meeting at the church Friday afternoon, June 27th. Mrs. J. Sjogren will act as hostess. Rev. Palmer Sillstrom will be present and an interesting meeting has been planned. All members are urged to be present. PAST PRESIDENTS CLUB TO MEET ON FRIDAY The Past Presidents club of George Starmer auxiliary will meet Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ira Byrd on East Second avenue South with Mrs. James F. Byrd as hostess at a one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon. All members are cordially invited to be present. D. OF U. V. TO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT Florence Nightingale Tent No. 15, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil war will meet at 7:30 o'clock Friday night at the armory. Reports on the state convention held last week In Port land will be made. Every mem ber is urged to be present. American Legion Auxiliary Activities By MRS. CLAUDE BAKER Word has just been received from Ruth Ann Ruhl at Girls' State, held at Silver Creek Falls, out of Salem. Plans, she says, are much better organized than last year. This is the second year of Girls' State. The leaders have had time to determine better methods. Four girls from Roseburg, Ruth Ann Ruhl, Ethel Van Voorst, Wilma Pounds and Gertrude Pierce, are in attendance this year. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Van Voorst took the girls to camp Sunday. These girls, like the Boys' Stat ers, elect a governor, mayor, and every city and county officer found in our government. They make and enact bills. Law en forcement is practiced. Indeed, when a girl returns she has had not only a lovely vacation but has a practical working knowledge of our governmental machinery. State Senator Dorothy McCul lough Lee Is again heading the camp, with Ruby Bergsvic chair man for the department. Over the week end Roseburg tinlt was most pleased to have the department president, Mrs. Hu bert Goode. and a large contin gent from Portland In attendance at the dance held at the faculty Friday night. With Mrs. Goode were Mrs. F. J. M. Ernest, Mrs. Otha Baker, Mrs. Ellis Jordan, Mrs. Joe Merrvman, Mrs. John J. Rottle and Mrs. Dan Bjomevlk all of the Multnomah inter-unit council from Portland. This was a long trip to make and Indeed those who have enjoyed the so cial occasions at the facility dur ing the past few years are most happy to welcome those from out of town. Corvallls will be hostess there this week. The American Legion auxiliary does not forget. ' One of the finest dance orches tras played at the facility Friday. The Mountain Jennies of Portland made the 200-mlle trip here and back that night to play for the pleasure of the men. Grace Mor gan with her "talking" - fiddle, with Cora Colweger at the piano and Margery McGregor and Ruth Coles playing the sax made merri ment aplenty. The women were dressed as mountain folk and many a laugh was heard over their antics. Everyone pronounc ed It the most "fun we've had In a long time." Indeed we thank Portland for obtaining this fine talent and for the visitors who came so far to bring an evening's entertainment to the men. Mrs. William Horsfall of Marshfield was also a Roseburg visitor over the week-end. Past President Mrs. Victor Micelli and her mother, Mrs. Annie Russell, took Mrs. Horsfall to Lakeview, returning Sunday. , Umpqua unit will have a meet ing this week to plan for the con vention and make reservations. A most entertaining stunt has been planned for stunt night. Lis ten to the next radio program July 1st at 5:00 o'clock. MUSIC ASSOCIATION . ( HOLDS FINE MEETING ELKTON. June 25. The Doug las County Music association of ficers and others interested met at the I. O. O. F. hall Sunday cveninn to make plans for the next meeting which will be held at Drain the first Sunday in Au gust. The first meeting of the association was held at Hart creek and the other meetings have been at Fishers grove at Kellogg. , The ladles of tne wining Workers club served dinner to the gathering. Anderson, chaplain of CCC camps in the local area, left yes terday for Los Angeles In re sponse to a message announcing the critical illness of his mother. Captain Anderson, called into ac tive army service, was preparing to leave for Camp Murray, Wash., to take up his duties as army chaplain at the time he received news of the illness of his mother. Final Practice Tonight The Junior Eagles drum corps, under the direction of Bill Black, will hold Its final practice tonight and depart tomorrow morning for Bend, Ore., to attend- the state Eagles convention. On Friday, the corps will compete in state competition of Junior Eagles drdm corps. The Roseburg corps won the state championship last year and hopes to retain the cup this year. Denny, of Drew, has left for Jef ferson barracks, Mo., where he has enlisted in the air service and has become a member of Company B 305.
