A very enjoyable meeting was held by Die Elgarose Comfort club Tues day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lesley Johns, with Mrs. J. N. Sands as joint hostess. . The business meeting was hold on the lawn at which time the club decided to dispense with their July meeting and have a picnic Instead at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Olson on Sun clay, July 20. There will be a picnic lunch served on the lawn at the Olson home, and visiting, horse shoe pitching and ball games will bo enjoyed. The club will serve coffee and lemon ado, and each one attending Is asked to bring a basket lunch and their our ta ble service. The afternoon's program was In charge of Mrs. Nettie Wood ruff, chairman; Mrs. Alberta Recce and Mrs. Don Ritzman ,eaeh gave enjoyable readings, 'followed by a flag contest, with Mrs. Dora Ritzman winning the prize and Mrs. Hilder Johnson i he club prize. Following the meeting a social hour of visiting was enjoyed and delicious refreshments were serv ed bv Mrs. Johns and Mrs. Sands to Mrs. Anita Stark, Mrs. Alberta Heece, Mrs. Dora Ritzman, of Roseburg, Mrs. Lillian Hess of Portland, Mrs. Anna Olson, Mrs. Ella Johnson, Mrs. Thelma Sund berg, Mrs. Jennie Midland of Roseburg, Mrs. Sara Holmquist, Mrs. Ada Durch, Mrs. Patricia Rowcll of Medford, Mrs. Nettie Woodruff, Mrs. Daisy Ward and Misses Helen Johnson, Doris Durch, Reta Johnson, Patty Holmquist, Edna Shew, Donna Sundberg and Donald Sund berg. HELEN HALEY AND CARLOS NEAL MARRY MYRTLE CREEK, June 20. The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. George Trask on South Myrtle was the scene of the marriage last Monday afternoon, June 10, of Mrs. Trask's daughter, Helen lialey, to Carlos Neal, who Is employed with the forest serv ice at Diamond lake. Minister J. L. Chaney officiated. The bride was lovely In a blue crepe afternoon frock with matching accessories. Her only attendant was Mrs. Franklo Trask, matron of honor. Mr. Bur goyne was best man. Madonna lilies and Canterbury bells were used about the rooms. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Chaney, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Trask, Mrs. Elliott, Ralph Haley and Mr. and Mrs. George Trask. . GENEVA HUNTLEY IS HONORED AT SHOWER CAMAS VALLEY. June 20. Cathallne Standley and Polly Ro herts gave a miscellaneous show er at Cathaline's home Wednes day afternoon honoring Geneva Huntley, who will become the bride of Willis Corder of Reeds port this summer. After opening and looking over the gifts refreshments were served to the guests. Those present were the honor guest, Geneva Huntley, Bonnie Jeanne Standley, Virginia Coon, Lorine Perry, Mardella Packard, Jeanne Moore, Doris Church, Marie Slegel, Frances Church, Annetta Barnhart, Dorothy Standley, Earlamae Palmer, Ef lie Folmsbee, Juanita Reetz, Bes sie Bratton, Polly Roberts, Catha line Standley and Mrs. Noble Standley. CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD ARTICLES ASKED FOR AUXILIARY WELFARE SHOP Mrs. H. T. Hansen, chairman of the Umpqua unit of the Ameri can Legion auxiliary welfare shop, has issued a final call for the season for household ar ticles and clothing for the shop. 'Members of the unit and friends desiring to help are requested to leave articles at the shop (lo cated at the former Maddox gro cery building on Jackson street) or are asked to telephone Mrs. Hansen at 673 and she will ar range for calling for the dona tions. The shop Is maintained for the purpose of raising money for the child welfare department. The finance committee of the unit, headed by Mrs. J. A. Harding, is In charge of the project. COUNTRY CLUB MEMBERS AND FRIENDS INVITED TO DANCE SATURDAY Members and friends of the Roseburg Country club have been invited to a very delightful sports dance to be held at nine o'clock Saturday evening, June 21, at the clubhouse. Mrs. O. R. Hess, Mrs. L. K. Fies, Mrs. Gene Greene and Mrs. S. J. Cooper are in charge of the affair, which promises to be one of the most enjoyable par ties of the ciub this season. The Swlngsters orchestra has been engaged to play for the dance. Refreshments will oe CAMAS VALLEY COUPLE MARRY ON SUNDAY CAMAS VALLEY, June 20. Miss Jeannette T. Long, daugh ter of Viola Long, and Donald Roth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roth, all of Camas Valley, were united in marriage Sunduy after noon, June 8, at 2 o'clock at the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Hattie Long, on Camas mountain. Rev. G. A. Garbodln of Dlllard read the marriage service In the presence of relatives of the bride and groom and a few friends. The bride wore a simple after noon dress of white. A reception followed the wed ding ceremony and refreshments were served to the guests. RECEPTION AND DINNER TO BE HELD TONIGHT AT BAPTIST CHURCH At 6 p. m. tonight the mem bers and friends of the First Baptist church will be hosts at a potluck supper reception honor ing Dr. and Mrs. Russell M. Brougher. Dr. Brougher will speak briefly, outlining the plans for the coming revival meetings at the First Baptist church. Honor guests at the reception will also include Chaplain and Mrs. H. W. Anderson and family, the Hinson Memorial choir and Miss Una Koonst, laboratory technician at Mercy hospital. Chaplain Anderson and his family are soon to leave for Camp Murray where Mr. Ander son has been called as an army chaplain. The Hinson choir will give a concert at the Baptist church tonight at eight o'clock. Miss Una lfoonst Is soon to be mafrled In California. B. P. W. C. FACILITY DANCE TONIGHT TO BE ENJOYABLE AFFAIR The all-girl orchestra, the Port land Mountain Jennies, will play for the dance to be sponsored to night at the Veterans Administra tion Facility under the auspices of the Multnomah Inter-Unit council of the American Legion auxiliary. The dance will be informal and will begin at 7:45 o'clock. Those desiring transportation are askea to call either Mrs. W. J. Olm scheid or Mrs. Irvln Riegel. Mem bers of Umpqua unit of the American Legion auxiliary and friends are cordially invited to en joy the affair. PARK WORKERS TO ENJOY POTLUCK DINNER Members of the Eagles work ing on Roseburg parks have been invited to enjoy a noon potluck luncheon Sunday at the Eagles hall. Berserk Squirrel Nips Portland Residents PORTLAND, J u n js 20. (AP) A roving rodent with fight in his eve left a trail of claw and tooth marks on 6ix residents of Portland's west side heights area yesterday. It brought his list of victims to eight since Saturday. The battler was a squirrel, apparently gone berserk. Sat urday it leaped on the shoul der of a man strolling in a park and bit his face; Wednes day night it entered a kitchen and attacked a woman, and yesterday it ranged widely, biting children and adults alike. One 14-year-old boy stood his ground with a bean shooter and despite two direct hits amidships the squirrel ad vanced and nipped the marks man. Rotary Hears Talks, Gets Dinner Meet Reminder Short talks by various club members and by George Neuner, visiting Rotarian who Is well known here, comprised the pro gram at the regular luncheon meeting of the Roseburg Rotary club yesterday. Club members were reminded by President Vic Micelll of the evening meeting next Thursday. This meeting will be dinner at the Riversdale grange at seven o'clock, he said. It will be a Ro tary ladies' night. Umpqua Post Names Five Delegates to Convention Five delegates will represent Umpqua post of the American Le gion at the state convention to be held In Eugene July 21 to 23, In clusive, It was announced today bv James Young, commander.
