Beautiful bouquets of sweet peas were used about the rooms. Mrs. E. A. Post, executive sec retary of the Red Cross, gave a very interesting talk on the work of that organization. A potluck supper was planned for Thurs day, June 19th, to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Raish at the Facility post. Covers were placed for Mrs. F. C. Gurnee, of Portland, Mrs. A. Karnes, of San Francisco, Mrs. John W. Weatherford, of Port land, Mrs. Earl Wiley, Mrs. Ned Dixon, Mrs. W. C. Holmes, Mrs. E. A. Britton, Mrs. C. W. Groves, ' Mrs. C. A. ROLAND SHANKLIN HONORED AT FAREWELL PARTY FRIDAY AFTERNOON Roland Shanklin, who is soon leaving with his mother and sis ter, Georgene, for Junea, Alaska, to join Mr, Shanklin, was hon ored at a delightful farewell party given by the primary de partment of the First Christian church Friday afternoon at the church parlors. Gifts were presented to Roland from Marie Anderson, Alice Tucker, Virginia Reeves, Barbara Jean and Roland Ellis, Gordon Gibbs, Bobby Church, Gary Phil ips, Raymond Shirley, Joanne and Lorraine Taylor, Mary Jean Miles, Oanta Crookston, Nona and Orville Bruton, Mrs. Shank lin, Mrs. Boucock and Mrs. Royd Bruton. Balloon favors were presented to the guests and games were played, after which refreshments were served. HAPPY HOUR CLUB MEETS AT TIPTON HOME WEDNESDAY The Riversdale Happy Hour club was graciously entertained Wednesday afternoon, by Mrs. Blanche Tipton. Roses, snapdrag ons and numerous other spring flowers lent a colorful note to the rooms. Sewing and visiting were en joyed and at the tea hour Mrs. Tipton served delicious refresh ments to Lila Lee, of Portland, a guest, and Mesdames Marsters, Joe Burkhart, Alice Kruse, Vera Guilcy, Minnie Cox, Avis Har mon, Bea Ott, Barbara Orr and W. Common. The July 9th meeting will be held at the home of Avis Har mon. F. S. CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING AT CHAPMAN HOME Mrs. G. A. Chapman gracious ly entertained the F. S. club at her home Tuesday afternoon. Snapdragons and sweetpeas were attractively arranged about the rooms. Sewing and visiting were, en joyed until the tea hour, when Mrs. Chapman served delicious refreshments to Mrs. Harrle F. Hatfield, Mrs. J. F. Byrd, Mrs. T. W. Thomason, Miss Marie Mar tens, Mrs. Earl Decker and Mrs. H. T. Bloom. The June 24th meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. F. Byrd. K AND R CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING AT TAYLOR HOME Mrs. B. W. Taylor was a most gracious hostess Wednesday, when she entertained the K and R club at her home on South Jackson street. Gorgeous bou quets of colorful summer flowers were arranged about the room, while the refreshments table, covered with a lovely lace cloth, was centered with a low bowl of attractive blossoms and tall tap ers. Sewing and visiting were en joyed and at the tea hour Mrs. Taylor served delicious refresh ments to Mrs. Oliver L. Johnson, Mrs. Charles Healy, Mrs. H. A. Taylor, Mrs. Mabel Wilson, Mrs. J. B. Bailey and Mrs. F. C. Frear. The June 25 meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Healy. CHARMING AFFAIR IS ' ENJOYED AT SHORT ' HOME ON SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Short, Sr., were honored on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary Sun day, June 1st, and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Short, Jr., were honored at a charming bridal shower giv en at the Short home at Wilbur. A lovely chest of silver was given to Mr. and Mrs. Short, Sr., and a shower of bridal gifts was given to Mr. and Mrs. Short, Jr., from Mrs. E. L. Henninger, of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Watson and son, James, of Oak land; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Hen ninger, of Roseburg; Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Henninger and daugh ter, Madalyn, of Winchester; Mrs. Ralph Hunsaker, of Eugene; Mr. and Mrs.. A. G. Henninger and sons, Larry and Wayne, of Glen dale; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vedder and son, Freddie, of Roseburg; Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Williams, of Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Henninger and daughter, Karen Lee, of Coquille. A beautiful thrce-tlercd wed ding cake was cut and a delight ful picnic dinner was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Short, Jr., make their home in Eugene. METHODIST W. S. OF C. S. LUNCHEON IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR OF THURSDAY . The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service executive meeting was held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the Methodist church, followed by the one o'clock lunch eon and regular meeting of the society. Mrs. Ned Dixon acted as hos tess chairman for the lovely luncheon and was assisted by Mrs. H. A. Canaday, Mrs. C. M. Page, Mrs. P. T. Bubar, Mrs. Max Meyers, Mrs. C. A. Chamberlin and Mrs. W. L. Cobb. The tables carried out a beautiful patriotic motif by the use of flags and flowers in red, white and blue shades. Mrs. F. H. Churchill was guest of honor, the occasion marking her birthday anniver sary. A beautiful birthday cake, decorated in the patriotic motif, was presented to Mrs. Churchill. The members and guests sang "Happy Birthday to You." Covers were placed for fifty. The regular business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. A. J. Geddcs, with Mrs. Bruce A. Mellis giving a fine de votional service on the topic, "Stewards of the Temple of God." Mrs. E. A. Britton, pro gram chairman, gave an excel lent talk on "Temperance," fol lowed by special music and a reading, "The Goblins Will Get You If You Don't Watch Out," by Ida Chamberlin, who recently won a W. C. T. U. medal contest with the reading. The society voted to discon tinue the luncheons during the summer, but will hold regular business sessions In July and Au gust. L A. TO B. OF R. T. HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING ON WEDNESDAY EVENING Mrs. Myrtle Snoddy, president, conducted the Ladies auxiliary to Brotherhood of Railroad Train men meeting Wednesday evening at the Roseburg Woman's club house with Mrs. Clara Starmer as hostess for the social hour. A twenty-year membership pin has been awarded this week by the auxiliary to Mrs. Hazel Melss ner. Mrs. Cecille Beal was Initiated into the auxiliary and following the business session, a delightful social hour was enjoyed and lov ly refreshments were served by the hostess at a table covered by a beautiful lace cloth and center ed by a bowl of pastel-snapdragons. Covers were placed for Myrtle Snoddy, president; Jessie Duncan, secretary; Cecille Beal, Sam Starmer (counsellor). Ger trude Seikert, Lena Llchtenwal- ter, Anna Walker, Garnet Allison, Elsie Wright, Nellie. Ford, Alda Williams, Kathryn Fream and the hostess, Clara Starmer. The next meeting of the aux iliary will be held at the club house the evening of July 9. The Hostess for this meeting will be announced later. FIVE HUNDRED CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING ON SATURDAY EVENING The Dixonvllle Five Hundred club was delightfully entertain ed by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heid- enreich and Carrie Dixon Satur day evening at the hall. Those enjoying the occasion with the host and hostesses in cluded: Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Tl son, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hatfield, and son, Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wellman, Mr. and Mrs. E. Heuston and Roy Strader. High scores for the five hun dred play were won by Mrs. Hat field and Mr. Weber. Later in the evening lovely refreshments were enjoyed. MR. AND MRS. CHASE ENTERTAIN HEALTH NURSES AT DINNER Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Chase en tertained the Douglas county health nurses staff at a very charming 6:30 o'clock dinner party at their attractive home on Moore street Thursday evening. Beautiful red roses and white col umbine formed the attractive centerpiece. Covers were placed for Mrs. Mary Barrett, Mrs. Hazel Lytle, Mrs. Helen Ryan, Mrs. Dorothy Hunt and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Chase. Visiting was pnjoyed during the pleasant eve ning hours. HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The Roseburg W. C. T. U. met Wednesday afternoon at the home ot Mrs. D. H. Morgan at Winston with the president, Mrs. Annie L. Russell, in charge. Chaplain H. W. Anderson gave a very enlightening talk to the group on the religious training given in the CCC camps. Mrs. Fred Fisher read a congressional letter and plans were outlined for exhibits at fairs to begin in August. Plans were also outlined for the next meeting to be in the form of a picnic. A pleasant social hour followed and Mrs. Morgan served lovely refreshments. The tea table, cov ered by a beautiful lace cloth, was centered with a bowl of lavender and pink sweetpeas. Mrs. Charles A. E. Roberts, Mrs. B.' S. Nichols and Mrs. Emma Lenox graciously entertained the Mis sionary society of the First Pres byterian church Thursday after noon at the former's home on Fowler street. Beautiful bouquets of colorful spring flowers were used about the rooms. Mrs. W. M. Campbell, presi dent, conducted the meeting and gave a very interesting talk on tne children s Farm Home at Corvallis, which she recently vis ited. The program in charge of Mrs. Morris H. Roach, chairman, carried out the theme of "Social Education and Action," which Mrs. Roach Is secretary of in the Presbyterial. Mrs. Roach gave a fine talk on marijuahna. Mrs. Fred Fisher had the year book of prayer and Mrs. Ida Bail ey conducted the devotions. Mrs. Earl Ullrich acted as secretary In the absence of Mrs. J. Roland Parker. Mrs. Margaret Rodgors was welcomed back into the society, having returned to Roseburg to make her home. Van Ness and the hitter's sister, Miss Phyllis Allen, who is visiting here from Bloomlngton, 111. The Mountfords will leave Sunday for Washington, D. C, to make their home. They have been the inspiration for numer ous charming parties during the last few weeks of their residence here. THIMBLE CLUB HAS POTLUCK LUNCHEON MONDAY AFTERNOON The Neighbors of Woodcraft Thimble club met at the home of Mrs. Henry Erskino for a delight ful potluck luncheon Monday af ternoon.
