HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING ON MONDAY EVENING The Business and Professional Women's club held their last meeting of the year at the Wo man's club on Monday evening, June 9. In the absence of the president the meeting was In charge of Margaret Saunders the vice-president. During the busi ness meeting there was a discus sion regarding the Issuing of an Invitation to the Oregon members to hold the 1942 state convention In Roseburg. It was decided to do this. Other business was the yearly reports from different committee chairmen. After the business had been y completed new members of the club were initiated and the Busi ness and Professional Women's emblem service was given. New members initiated were Mrs. J. C. McCallister and Nellie Rose .Melton. Mrs. Floyd Lewis gave a vocal solo accompanied by Fran cis Lintott. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Edyth Gilmour, Mrs. Daniel Crockett, Mrs. Gene Mills, Mar garet Saunders and Margaret Johnson. Guests were Mrs. J. C. McCal tlster, Mrs. Ethel Carpenter, Mrs. Lyman Spencer, Miss Elnor Sherk, Miss Martha A. Lee, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Viola Blessing, Mary Alice Wolford, Mrs. Nance L. DYER FAMILY REUNION IS HELD AT GLENDALE GLENDALE, June 10. A re union of the Dyer family was held at the home of Dr .and Mrs. A. J. Fawcett last Friday. The day was spent in visiting and a dinner was served at noon. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ard Dyer, Nadia and Lauris Dy er, Elmer Rowan, Mr. and Mrs. Naas, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Rhodes, and Geraldlne Rhodes of Myrtle Creek, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. NURSES INVITED TO POTLUCK SUPPER Members of district No. 11, of O. S. N. A. are urged to attend the last meeting of the group for the summer to be held at an In formal potluck supper from six to eight o'clock next Tuesday night at Ritter's Back Forty on the North Umpqua. Dr. Ken neth W. Kinney will conduct an informal dicussion on nursing problems in relation to neuro psychiatry. State convention re ports will be conducted by Helen Ryan. Every member is urged to attend this meeting. . SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS HAS ENJOYABLE PARTY YONCALLA, June 13. Mrs. Avery Lasswell's Sunday school class enjoyed a party in the Ep worth hall of the Methodist church recently. Games were played after which a delicious supper was served to Ethel Wooley and Doris Craig of Drain, Mr. and Mrs. Brittaln, Mrs. Avery Lasswell and daughter, Ann, Misses Ruth Stoutc, Norma Hitchfock, Nancy Madden, Betty Lambdin, Willard Williams, Jim mie Madden, Jimmie Huntington and George Marsters. N. OF W. HAS LARGE MEETING YONCALLA, June 13. At the regular meeting of Yoncalla 'Neighbors of Woodcraft held Tuesday evening, members of the Cottage Grove circle presented the grand guardian neighbor's autograph album to Yoncalla clr cle. This album has traveled in all six western states since 1933, visiting most every circle, con' tains pictures and interesting write ups from each circle. Aft er it has gone to all Neighbors of Woodcraft circles the grand guardian neighbor, Minnie Hlner of Portland, will receive it. PICNIC AND SKATING PARTY IS ENJOYED DAYS CREEK, June 13. One of the jolliest parties of the sea son was enjoyed Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gaulke and son, Richard, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sumner and daughter, Donna, Mr. and Mrs. C C. Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Simmons and daughter, Ardeth, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Moore and sons, Leon and Jimmie, Ralph Duncan, Miss Net tie Moore and Daly Bellamy went to the Winchester camp ground to join Mrs. Clifton Beals of Canyonvllle, Mr. and Mrs. Al bert DeBernardi, Mr. and Mrs. Joe DeBernardi and Miss Joan and Miss Raylene DeBernardi of Idleyld, Earl Duncan of Glide, HI Hash of Canyonvllle, Fred Oberholder and Mr. and Mrs. John Amacher for a picnic and skating party. A delicious potluck lunch was served early in the afternoon followed by adjournment to the skating rink where much hilar ity was occasioned by the mis haps befalling those who again donned skates for the first time since last summer and others who had never before joined in the sport. When the afternoon came to an end all those attend ing expressed the sincere hope that this may become an annual affair. Mr. and Mrs. Amacher, who have been spending the past sev eral weeks at their camp ground at Winchester plan to leave In the near future for racuic fan sades, Calif., where they operate another auto camp. MR. AND MRS. YOUNG ENTERTAIN FOR DAUGHTER GLENDALE, June 13. Mr, and Mrs. E. E. Young were host and hostess to a wiener roast in honor of their daughter's, Mrs. George Mill, birthday on Tues day evening. The evening was spent roast ing wieners and visiting. Mrs. Mill was given a lovely mrtnaay cake and many nice presents, Those present were Mr. and Mrs. George Mill and sons, Charles and Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Rate Martin, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. LADIES CLUB TO MEET NEXT WEEK DAYS CREEK, Juno 13. The South Umpqua Ladies club has been Invited to hold its June meeting at the home of Mrs. Earl Sumner, the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18. The roll call subjects will be in keeping with Flag day and Father's day recognition. As an interesting program is being arranged it is hoped that there win De a large attendance. O. A. R. TO MEET SATURDAY AFTERNOON Umpqua chapter of the D. A. R. has announced an important meeting for two o'clock Saturday June 14, to be held at the home of Mrs. William Bell, at 122 S. Jackson street. New officers will be elected and plans will be made for the state board meeting to De neia next week. The Red Cross first aid class which is sponsored by and com posed of many auxiliary women will hold its last regular meeting this week. Next , week examina tions will take place. Weaver home was the scene of a quiet but very im pressive wedding ceremony the evening of Sunday, June 1, when Miss Thelma Davis became the bride of Leonard Clifton, Justice of the Peace Weaver officiating. The bride, who Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Davis, has made this her home for a num ber of years coming here from eastern Washington. Mr. Clif ton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Clifton, is also a local resi dent having come here from southern California. Those pres ent at the ceremony included the bride's twin sister, Miss Zelma Davis, Miss Violctte Goln, Miss Geraldlne Spore, Mrs. T. L. Weaver and Jack Clifton. Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clifton were honored with rousing charivari followed with a reception at the John Clifton home on upper Days creek. Mrs. Jenkins Home Mrs. Paul Jenkins Is back at her home In Laurelwood, having been dis charged from Mercy hospital, where she has been receiving medical attention since Satur day. Returns ' Home Mrs. Harry Llnser has returned to her home on North Pine street, following several days In Portland visiting her son, David Llnser.- She was accompanied home by her niece, Miss Betty, who will visit here for a few days.' Mrs. Haynes Home Mrs. Fred L. Haynes, owner of the Haynes drug store, has returned here, following a ten-day stay In Port land attending to business and visiting her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan B. Mc Kinney. During her absence Mrs. Forrest McKay had charge of the store. Called Here Clinton Atherton, of Stockton, Calif., came to Rose burg this week, having been call ed by the Illness of his father, Claude Atherton, who is at Mercy hospital. Clinton is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hen best while In Roseburg. He plans to return to Stockton this week-! end, as his father is now reported to be much Improved In health. i Leave for Portland Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McDermott and son, Robert, and Mrs. McDerMott's daughter, Dorothy Casey, all of this city, left today for Albany, where Robert will remain with his paternal grandmother, while the rest of the family goes on to Portland. Mr. McDermott, who Is the Associated Oil distributor for this territory, will return here the first of the week, while Mrs. McDermott and Dorothy will re main in Portland for a couple of weeks to visit Mrs. McDcrmott's sister. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown of Salem came to the valley Tuesday Intending to visit grange that night but found grange postpon ed due to baccalaureate services for the high school. They visited for a while at the home of Mr. and Mi-s. Ernest Wheeler. Jack Markham left Sunday for the Pennsylvania naval training school near Philadelphia where he will be stationed for some time. Miss Alice Scranton of Eugene and Mrs. Fred A. Sklna of Port land arrived Tuesday afternoon to attend the graduation exer cises of the high school. Mi's. Skina, nee Abbie Lawson, re turned to Portland Friday, ac companied by her sister, Joanne Lawson, who will visit ner ana her brother, Gail Lawson, for a couole of weeks. Miss Scranton will visit with her sister, Mrs. T. G. Lawson, several days before returning to Eugene. Bruce' Dick spent the week-end here with his father, R. W. Dick. Mr. Dick has lately received an nouncements of the birth of a daughter, Sharon Louise, to Mr. and Mrs. Max Dick of Bend on May 23, and a daughter, Jackie Jo, to Mr. and Mrs. Rex Dick of Shedd, on May 25. . . Mrs. Roy Milier of Lebanon and her daughter, Mrs. Beryl Hinton, and a granddaughter called on friends in the valley Thursday. The Millers were for mer residents of the valley. . Mrs. Ethel Brown and Marga ret went to Medford Thursday af ter Esther, whose school closed that week.
