Snapdragons furnished a lovely motif for the tea table and rooms. Mrs. W. M. Campbell, president, conducted the meeting and re ports were given by Mrs. Ullrich, Mrs. C. D. Fles, Mrs. W. G. Blake and Miss Margaret Clapp. Mrs. Fred Fisher presented the devo tions on "The Bible Ideal of the Christian Woman," and the year book of prayer was given by Mrs. E. R. Metzger on Latin America and Mrs. Morris H. Roach, pro pram chairman, presented Mrs. E. S. Hall, who gave a fine book review of "Wings Over China." Mrs. J. Roland Parker, secre tary, read a very interesting let ter from Miss Irene Forsythe, missionary in China, telling of her return to that country follow ing a furlough in the United States. Miss Forsythe, sister of Mrs. Roy Ackor, wife of the Presbyterian minister at Oregon Citv, formerly of Rosehurg, is well known in Roseburg. She told of her trip back to China and of people and conditions in that country today. Mrs. E. S. Hall, new president of the Presbyterian ladies aid, in vited the group to attend the one thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon meeting to be held at the church parlors Thursday, May 15. At the tea hour Mrs. Ullrich served lovely refreshments and was assisted by Miss Margaret Clapp, Mrs. C. D. Fies and Mrs. Fred Fisher. Mrs. Morris H. Roach poured. Those enioylng the occasion with Mrs. Ullrich included Mrs. Hartley, Mrs. W. A. White, guests; Mrs. Don Young, new member, and Mrs. Ida Bailev, Miss Margaret Baldwin. Mrs. W. G. Blake, Mrs. L. L. Bodie. Miss Emma Bristol, Mrs. W. M. Camp bell, Mrs. W. M. Chalmers. Miss Margaret Clapp, Mrs. L. Connel ly, Mrs. Belle Croft. Mrs. Fred Fisher, Mrs. R. H. Grinstcd, Mrs. Earl Agee, Mrs. H. Thevotions will be in charge of Mjs.Ida Bailey and the yearbook of -prayer will be In charge of Miss'Mbrgaret Clapp. KEYSTONE CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING FRIDAY AFTERNOON The Keystone' club of the Methodist church, was entertain ed at a very lovely 1:30 o'clock dessert-luncheon at the home of Mrs. Elmer Hampton with Mrs. Adrian Fisher and Mrs. John M. The club planned a potluck supper party for the members and their husbands to be held at the Methodist church the evening of May 10. MRS. HARRY F. HATFIELD ELECTED PRESIDENT OF ROSEBURG WOMAN'S CLUB Mrs. Harry F. Hatfield was unanimously elected president of the Roseburg Woman's club for 1941-42 at a meeting held at a one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon at the clubhouse Tuesday af ternoon. Mrs. Hatfield, who has been a prominent member of the club for the last several years and who was served as president of a number of local organizations, ac cepted the presidency of the club and received the pledge of mem bers for cooperation during the ensuing year. Mrs. W. R. Brown, president, Miss Marie Martens and Mrs. L. E. Goodbourn graciously acted as hostess for the dessert-luncheon. Beautiful bouquets of spring flow ers graced the prettily appointed serving tables. The club collect was given by Mrs. Hatfield, fol lowed by the pledge to the flag and a community sing. On ac count of the long business meet ing, Miss Mane Martens, pro gram chairman on the subject of 'Greenland postponed the pro gram until a later date. New officers supporting Mrs. Hatfield for the coming year in clude: first vice-president, Mrs. John R. Raish; second vice-president, Mrs. G. V. Wimberly; treas urer, Mrs. Mark L. Underwood; corresponding secretary. Miss Jen nie Jorey, and recording secre tary. Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagen. The directors and clubhouse board members will be elected at a later date. Reports of various committees were read and the next meeting was announced for May 20th to be held at a 1:30 o clock dessert- luncheon at the clubhouse. CAROLYN GROVES CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY SATURDAY Carolyn Groves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gloves, celebrated her ninth birthday an niversary at a delightful party at her home in Laurelwood Sat urday afternoon. Mrs. Groves was assisted in serving by Mrs. Mosier and Mrs. John Irving. Lovely Sifts were presented to Carolyn from Ruth and Betty Jump, Marjorie Dee Mosier, Bar bara Bailey, Patty Pinniger, Ron nie Groves, J. T. Mosier and John Wilson Irving. Games were played and love ly refreshments were served at a table centered by a beautiful birthday cake, lighted by nine tiny candles. Pink favors com pleted the pretty setting. Col umbine and roses were used in attractive bouquets about the rooms. FRANCIS WATZIG IS ELECTED SECRETARY OF CLUB AT U. OF O. UNIVERSITY OF OREGON, Eugene, May 12. Francis Wat zlg, Roseburg, has been elected secretary of the social chairman club at the University of Oregon. Watzig, a graduate of Roseburg high school, is a freshman ma joring in social science at the university. He is the son of Mrs. O. H. Watzig. W. C. T. U. TO MEET WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The Roseburg W. C. GLENN OWEN IS HOSTESS TO BRIDGE CLUB AT LUNCHEON Mrs. Glenn Owen very gra ciously entertained her bridge club at a lovely 1:30 o'clock luncheon at her beautiful home in Laurelwood Friday afternoon. Roses, iris and other spring flowers were attractively ar ranged for the occasion. Covers were placed for Mrs. II. H. Turner, a guest, and Mrs. J. P. Molschenbacher, Mrs. Phil Harth, Mrs. Louis Fullerton, Mrs. L. L. Wimberly, Mrs. Frank Long, Mrs. S. C. Richmond and the hostess, Mrs. Owen. Contract bridge was enjoyed during the pleasant afternoon hours with Mrs. Owen winning high score; Mrs. Motschenbach er, second high score, and Mrs. Wimberly the traveling prize. MRS. ADRIAN FISHER ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB AT DESSERT-SUPPER A charming eight o'clock dessert-supper was given by Mrs. Adrian Fisher Monday evening, ByGalbraitti orr. John Payne, coming Tuesday (Wed "Pier 13"), Thursday, Friday and when she entertained her bridge club at her home. Beauty bush sprays, iris, snowballs and other spring flowers were attractively arranged to grace the serving table and were used in large bouquets about the rooms. Covers were placed for Mrs. William Moore, Mrs. Chester Hercher and Mrs. Phil Harth, guests, and Mrs. L. L. Wimberly, Mrs. Louis Fullerton, Mrs. Les lie C. Cummlngs, Mrs. B. R. Mad dux and the hostess, Mrs. Fisher. Contract bridge was enjoyed during the evening with Mrs. Fisher winning high score; Mrs. Moore, second high score, and Mrs. Wimberly winning the trav eling prize. AUXILIARY TO MEET WEDNESDAY EVENING The ladles auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railway Train men will meet at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday evening at the Rose burg Woman's clubhouse with Mrs. C. P. AMASON Mrs. Kenneth Lnurance gra ciously entertained at her home on South Mill street Wednesday evening at a charming shower party to compliment Mrs. Henry Wallace Amason, of Redding, Calif. Mrs. Amason, nee Betty Quine, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Quine of this city. On Friday, Lt. and Mrs. Amason announced the birth of a daugh ter, Julianne Montine, born in this city. The rooms were prettily deco rated with bouquets of snapdrag ons and rosebuds and the many lovely gifts were presented to Mrs. Amason in a dainty pink and blue bassinet. Roach, pastor of the Roseburg Presbyterian church, left this morning for Ban don, accompanied by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. G. H. Roach, of Portland. Ho met at Bandon to day with the Rev. E. E. Rosen kildie, who will be dean of the annual young people's conference to be held at Fir Point, near Glen dale, June 23 to 30. Mr. Roach Is chairman of the Fir Point con ference committee.
