THREE Society and Clubs By LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER MEMBERS AND GUESTS INVITED TO COUNTRY CLUB PARTY THURSDAY Members of the ladies of the Country club and friends have been cordially Invited to enjoy the annual spring guest-day bridge tea and May-day party planned for Thursday at one thirty o'clock at the clubhouse. Reservations may be made by telephoning Mrs. Fred Lockwood at 357-Y. All persons planning to attend the party have been asked to make reservations of tables as soon as possible by calling Mrs. Lockwood, so that the cards com mittee can complete arrange ments for the affair., Mrs; L. E. McClintock and Mrs. W. M. McEachern are joint gen- oral chairman of the party, which will be one of the largest affairs of the spring months. Members of the club are assisting on the various committees to make the party an unusually delightful sue- , cess. Tho party is one of the very few sponsored by the club, which will be enjoyed by guests as well as the members. Prizes will be awarded both members and guests having high rcores and the winter bridge tour nament prizes will be awarded members. Bridge players will pivot at their respective tables during the afternoon. H. E. C. Two lace-covered tables centered with bowls of pnnstes and lilacs were used to seat the following: Alice Ooff, Ethel Bu senbark, Katie Conn. Margaret Kruse, Anita Stark, Grace Fenn, Amy Matthews. Kathryn Petre quln, Mabel Busenbark, Wllla mlne Bonebrake, Frances Helm boldt, Nellie Mvers, Crvstal Conn, Belle Cooper, Roberta Reeee, Mil dred Bonebrake, Willcna Brad ford, Edythe Florence Kellev, Catherine Horn and Emma P. Woods. Mabel Busenbark presided over the business meeting and Kath ryn Petrequln had the program on "Early Oregon History." Plans were made for initiation to be held at the grange hall at the grange meeting May nth, at which time the third and fourth degrees will be conferred. Members responded to roll-call by giving their pet peeve. W. B. A. BIRTHDAY PARTY IS ENJOYED The Womban's Benefit associa tion honored "Mrs. Hugh Wells and Mrs. Carl Havens at a charm ing birthday party Thursday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Eu gene Little on South Stephens steeet. Mrs. Escoe Johnson and Mrs. Marvin Arthur were guests of the afternoon and the club president, Mrs. George Powers, presented lovely birthday gifts to Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Havens. Follow ing a delightful social hour play ing bingo, delicious refreshments were served. A two-hour program has been arranged and all county elementary schools (children from 1st through 8th grades) will be represented on the pro gram. (AP) Frank (Lefty) O'Doul, mana ger of the San Francisco Seals, was struck In the eye with a bot tle early today in the cocktail room of the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel. Attending doctors said they feared O'Doul would lose sight of his left eye. He was rushed to a hospital for an operation. Edward Ramies, a friend of O'Doul, told police a stranger ap proached and began kidding O'Doul about the Seals' 12-9 loss to Los Angeles yesterday. A ' fight followed in which, Ramies said, the man hit O'Doul with a bottle, then fled. He Is to fill the office of county judge during the absence of Judge Morris Bowkcr, who has been called into army service.
